‘GET DIGGING PEOPLE!

Thursday 5th April Willow WeavingLearn the techniques of weaving with willow and create willow structures for your beans, peas or flowers to climb up.

1pm – 3pm Part of the Artlink Garden Club.

Cookery DemoWant to get some ideas for healthy, tasty cooking that you can do at home? Come along to our cookery demonstration at the Glasshouses 6.30 - 8pm. See how it’s done and taste the results.

Thursday 12th April Flower ArrangingBrighten up the wards with some beautiful bouquets. Learn flower arranging tips and ideas from professional florist Pati. Bring along a vase if you want to.

1pm – 3pm Part of the Artlink Garden Club.

Saturday 14th April Digging in, Planting out Join Tom and Anne for a relaxed day of gardening at the growing plots. We’ll have tools, gloves, plants, seeds and refreshments. Just bring yourself.

11am – 4pm with a Picnic Lunch 1pm – 2pm

All welcome.

Tuesday 17th April PicnicStart of the picnic lunch club. Bring your lunch and eat while we meet 12pm – 1pm.

We want to improve our picnic area at the back of the glasshouses and we want your ideas.

What should we plant? How could we decorate it? What would make it more relaxing and attractive? The club will meet monthly after this and help plan the summer picnic lunch in July.

Staff and patients welcome.

Wed 18th April Feed the Birds Make bird feeders from recycled materials with the Volunteer Hub. Join them at 10.30 – 12pm in the Glasshouses. All materials supplied including a free pack of bird food.

Walking GroupStretch your legs, get some fresh air and try a bit of bird spotting. Join the Walking Group at 1pm at the Glasshouses and enjoy a walk around the gardens and the Orchard.

2pm Bird Walk

Thurs 19th April All about Worms! Find our why worms are so important to growing plants and how to get them to help you make great compost. Our gardener Tom will help us create a wormery for the Glasshouses as part of the session.

1pm – 3pm Part of the Artlink Garden Club.

Thursday 29th March Launch Day!To kick off growing month join us in the Glasshouses for a Picnic Lunch 12 – 1pm. Bring your packed lunch and celebrate the start of the growing season.

If you fancy gardening with a few giggles join us for some Guerilla Gardening. Gorilla costumes not required (but fancy dress welcome).

Meet at the Glasshouses 10am or 1.30pm to get out and about the hospital to put some plants in strange places.

There will be regular activities throughout the month:

Mondays 1.30pm – 3pmArtlink Gardening Workshop at the Growing Plots with Anne. Tools and gloves provided.

Tuesdays 8.30am – 2pmEdinburgh Food Initiative Fruit and Vegetable Stall.Next to the WRVS Shop.

11am – 12.00pm Plant StallAnne and Debbie’s Plant Stall alongside the fruit and veg stall, supported by the Volunteers Hub.

Thursdays 1pm – 3pm Artlink Garden Club at the Glasshouses. All welcome to come and get involved.

And...The Royal Edinburgh Community Gardens have drop in sessions three times a week at their garden by the Myreside Road entrance. Get in touch with Sean or Hillary if you would like to go along on 46232.

Bike Week will be coming up in April and the popular Dr Bike will be back, so you can get your bike ready to spring into action and cycle to work.

Growing Spaces Exhibition This year we are getting dirty! It’s all about soil: what’s in it, how it is made and what makes good soil to grow plants. The gallery will be transformed into an underground experience complete with worms, roots, bugs and other wildlife.

Call for contributions

We are looking for crafty projects to include in the exhibition; knitted worms, crocheted beasties, embroidered leaves etc. If you would like your work to be included drop it off at the glasshouses by Tuesday 10th April.

If you want some ideas or help, then why not join our art workshops on Tuesday 4th and 10th April 10.30am – 12pm or Wednesday 5th and 11th of April 1.30pm - 3.30pm

The exhibition will open on Wednesday 25th April 11am – 12pm. Last chance to add your art work and look out for a surprise guest.
