Brent Dance Month 2014 | 3

This year, Brent Dance Month (BDM) is part of Big Dance, the UK’s biggest celebration of dance and dancing supported by the Foundation for Community Dance, Arts Council England and the Mayor of London. Dance is a fantastic way to bring people together to exchange ideas, try something new, get fit and enjoy ourselves. It is also one of Brent’s key art forms. We are lucky to have an incredible diversity of dance practitioners and organisations who serve the local population as well as delivering excellent work nationally.

Our 2014 programme celebrates dance’s connection to fitness, wellbeing, the arts and culture internationally. Inspired by the British Empire Exhibition currently running at the Civic Centre, the theme for BDM 2014 is ‘A World in Dance’. We bring you opportunities to experience high quality performances as well as an array of dance styles to try out from FitSteps®, Baby Disco, Dancehall, Bollywood to Classical Indian Dance, Streetdance, therapeutic dance and dance for self expression.

We are thrilled to be working in partnership with Exercise, Move, Dance London and Big Dance to host the Big Dance Youth Platforms at the Civic Centre. Big Dance is the UK’s largest festival of dance participation and performance which takes place 5-13 July. The Youth Dance Platforms will feature high-quality performances from local and national dance acts as well as a number of free taster workshops.

Brent Dance Blast, our annual youth dance competition, returns to amaze, inspire and showcase the best of our local talent. Our Brent Dance Month star attraction, Street Dance XXL 2014, will take place this year during July at Wembley Arena and will also feature at Big Dance Youth Platforms.

Building on our successful partnership with English National Ballet, we are delighted to welcome them back to the borough where they will be working with Kingsbury High School.

BDM2014 will culminate in our dance showcase fiesta, Brent Celebrates: A World in Dance featuring dance styles from selected countries across the globe. We are delighted to welcome Folk Dance Remixed, a ground breaking company creating unique fusions between Folk and Hip Hop styles with live music as our headline act.

Brent Dance Month 2014 has something for all ages and abilities so why not join us and party yourself into a sweat this summer!
