CROW VALLEY GOLF CLUB

Founded in 1969, Crow Valley Golf Club has evolved into the premiere golf club of the Quad Cities. Nestled in a natural setting that takes advantage of hundreds of stately trees, meandering Crow Creek and dramatic elevation changes providing breath-taking views, the championship 18-hole golf course is known for its pristine, manicured fairways and greens accented with flowers. The layout is challenging, but fair.

In addition, this full-service private club offers members a state-of-the-art swimming pool, tennis courts, an elegant clubhouse, and excellent dining.The Olympic-sized pool offers members a “zero-

depth” graduated entrance and a diving well. Swimming lessons are offered, and Crow Valley participates in a non-competitive interclub swim

team league for children ages 6 to 14.Three hard- surface tennis courts were built in 1999, in close proximity to other club facilities, amidst extensive landscaping. Tennis lessons and leagues are available for all ages.

The renovated Clubhouse offers several full service dining areas: the Formal Dining Room, Casual Dining Room, Mixed Grill Room, Men’ Grill, Crow’s Nest Lounge and Patio dining. The building can be transformed into a variety of configurations to accommodate daily member as well as private functions.

Members can schedule a variety of events, including cocktail receptions, lunches, dinner parties, showers, wedding receptions and business meetings.

Club members are proud to say that Crow Valley has the best food and service in the Quad Cities, and that it surpasses fine restaurants in the area. Award-winning Chef James Steffen, valedictorian of Chicago’s Washburne Chef’s Academy, presents a fine dining experience as well as casual dining, and can also accommodate large parties in grand style.

Club membership currently includes: 212 Equity, 35 Junior (ages 25 to 35), 20 Senior Associate, 7 Lifetime, 87 Social/Swim and 57 Clubhouse members. GENERAL MANAGER/COO POSITION SUMMARY

The General Manager/COO of The Crow Valley Golf Club implements the policies established by the Board of Directors and the by-laws of the club. The incumbent ensures the existence of appropriate policies and procedures, and is responsible for the implementation of these in all areas of responsibility, including preparing annual operating and capital budgets and, after Board approval, managing and controlling operations to attain the desired results. Coordination of all management functions for the club collaborating with committee chairs to assist them in the development of proposed policies, programs, events, etc. is under the direction of the General Manager/COO. The General Manager/COO consults with the Board and/or committee chairs on all matters of significance or potential significance to the club. As the key spokesperson and main contact for the Club, the General Manager/COO is responsible for promoting the Club as a premier golf destination experience and dissemination of hospitality, friendliness and goodwill among all members and guests. His/her goal is always to help members and their guests enjoy the facilities and programs of their club. The Board's expectation is that the General Manager/COO is "hands on". The General Manager/COO has eight direct reports: Executive Chef, Controller, Maintenance Manager, Clubhouse Manager, Pool Director, Golf Professional, Golf Course Superintendent, and Tennis Professional. The General Manager will absolutely be expected to establish and maintain an exemplary level of service that is currently provided through the club house experience and will continue to elevate the golf experience to higher levels.

Reporting Relationship

The General Manager/COO reports to the President, Board of Directors.MEMBER SERVICES Provides quality leadership and a positive, upbeat image for the club and the

amenities the Club offers. Leads with the dictate to provide members with 6

premier service in dining, golf operations, golf course maintenance, other sports, quality products, and an exciting calendar of club events. Maintains detailed records on all club events.

Oversees a first-class food and beverage operation, with appealing menus, properly priced, and featuring exemplary service. A developer and promoter of creative special events, while working with club committees on these efforts.

Plans his/her work schedule so as to be personally visible and readily accessible to members and their guests.

Assures the smooth, efficient daily operation of the Club to provide the members and guests with the environment for which the Club is renowned.

Ensures the highest standards for all golf, sports, recreation, entertainment, and other club services.

Addresses and resolves member complaints and suggestions in such areas as dining, general service, athletic programs, employee attitude, maintenance, and cosmetic appearance of the facility. When appropriate will confer on these issues with the President.

FINANCIAL .MANAGEMENT In conjunction with the Finance Committee, Treasurer, and key department

heads, prepares annual operating and capital budgets and, after Board approval, manages and controls the operations to attain the desired results.

Provides input to all department heads and key personnel, projecting and developing budgets, capital spending plans, fiscal controls, and operational guidelines. Proactive in the managing the approved budget to meet financial goals.

Responsible for the approval of service contracts, including all accounts payable, all labor cost payouts, and maintains them within the constraints of the budgets and through close coordination with the Board of Directors.

Maintains an up-to-date management information system. Disseminates information in a timely way throughout the organization to so those in management rolls can use that data accordingly.

CLUB MANAGEMENT Assumes responsibility for all club administration and community relations

and coordinates with Director of Golf on community golf activities. Facilitates and participates in all short and long-range strategic planning

activities of the club. Provides on-going continuity from year to year, and board to board, on all such plans and programs.

Consults with the Board and department heads on policy, and changes in the operations of each department; suggests changes, and may direct the implementation of change.

Provides on-site supervision and administrative support for all capital projects, including those involving construction and renovation.

Provides for the security of club property, its environs and members' belongings.

Responsible for the general care, maintenance, and upkeep of the physical plant and facilities, and ensures that an ongoing preventive maintenance program is in effect.

Delegates appropriate authority to department heads, yet remains responsible for all operations of the club including, golf operations, golf course maintenance, swimming operations, and racquets operations, making those changes deemed necessary for the club's successful operation.

Attends meetings of the Board of Directors and, where appropriate, the various committees of the club. With the Club Secretary, arranges for proper minutes to be maintained for all Board and committee meetings.

Coordinates with the chairman of the membership committee to ensure that club memberships are effectively marketed and' that the membership "health" of the club remains strong. Maintains records of membership status by class of membership. Orients new members in club activities and by laws (see also “Communications #2”.)

Assures the club operates in accordance with applicable local, state, federal laws including union requirements.

Furthers his/her own continued development as a club management professional by participation in appropriate Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) seminars and conferences, and others as approved, thereby enhancing his/her value and quality of services to the membership.

EMPLOYEE RELATIONS Coordinates with the Board, and as appropriate, committee chairs, or those

department heads reporting directly on matters of compensation, benefits, performance appraisal, disciplinary, and other significant personnel actions.

Interviews and appraises all applicants for key management positions. Exercises final approval, subject to Board oversight, over all such hiring. Acts as a resource person in consultation with club professionals in their hiring.

Initiates employment programs and recruitment efforts that result in the club being viewed as a premier place to work.

Interacts with department heads, pursuant to the appraisal, discipline, and/or discharge, of any employee, receiving prior approval of President and Board of Directors with respect to the discharge of any department head.

Provides for the motivation, training and further development of all department heads and other personnel. Creates an environment of team spirit.

Ensures that a positive and healthy work environment exists throughout the club, one that is free of safety risks and all forms of employee harassment.

Develops implements and maintains all necessary employee records, including performance appraisals, discipline, and complimentary records, payroll and benefit details.

COMMUNICATIONS

Develops ongoing dialogue and rapport with club members through recognition programs, communication, the club's newsletter, web site, and follow-through. Assures satisfactory communications between the club members and employees.

Once accepted into the Club, coordinates a program for the induction of new members to educate them about services, facilities and club polices.

Keeps the Board of Directors, officers and the appropriate committee chairs informed on a timely basis of all significant, or potentially significant, operating matters and problem areas.

Specific Qualifications1. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible club management

positions resulting in his/her present situation being that of a General Manager of a respected private country club, or the number two position in a large, high quality club.

2. A professional career "track record" of achievement and relative employment stability; one who hasn’t moved around every one or two years.

3. Strong overall financial management and administrative skills, with particular strengths in the following areas: internal controls, financial controls, cash flow management, budgeting, data processing, and financial planning.

4. Pronounced people sensitivities, especially as this relates to dealing with staff, club members, surrounding community, municipal authorities, and suppliers.

5. Proven leadership qualities with demonstrated ability to direct, coordinate, and manage all facets of a full service country club. Our need is for a real team builder.

6. An especially strong set of professional credentials in the broad hospitality areas including fine dining, parties, special programs and events, athletics/sports, training of staff, and clubhouse housekeeping. Experience in increasing a la carte dining is particularly desirable.

7. A personal appreciation for the ambience, culture, taste and expectations of the civic, community, and business and professional leaders of the greater Quad Cities area.

8. An overriding sense of quality consciousness that pervades every part of the club's operations. This includes, most importantly, a high quality, courteous, efficient staff.

9. A clear understanding of high quality, diverse golf, tennis and swimming programs, including men's, women's and junior programs in those areas.

10. Sound and current knowledge of human resources practices, including wage and hour laws, employment and discharge, ERISA, equal employment, OSHA, and the full range of employment benefits.

11. Strong communication skills, both in writing and speaking, with the distinct ability to function effectively before a wide variety of groups and forums. Communication with members and personal visibility are highly important parts of the General Manager's responsibilities. It is very important to be able to work effectively with committee chairs of the various club committees.

12. A record of success in the selection, development, training and motivation of an accomplished, service-oriented staff.

13. A distinct merchandising/marketing/promotion sense, with a clearly documentable record of accomplishments in achieving increased member usage.

14. A sharp eye for detail in the overall management of the operation, especially in the housekeeping and maintenance areas.

15. A warm personality; engaging, with a sense of humor, and the ability to work effectively at all levels of the organization.

16. A strong, supportive and stable personal life; in good health personally. Desirable Qualifications Able to build a strong employee climate which functions well on behalf of the

membership as well as with mutual respect for each other. Capable of a high degree of initiative and resourcefulness in directing the

activities of a full service country club; able to present a consummately professional image to the staff, membership, and the general public.

Well organized with the ability to set priorities well. Able to appreciate and respect the professional abilities and accomplishments of current key club employees, especially the award winning Executive Chef and the Golf Superintendent. A good delegator, but one who follows up as necessary on what is delegated.

A creative individual with good personal taste who is tactful in dealings with individuals and groups.

A doer with great drive, energy and staying power who through personal example encourages others to get things done. Committed, with a high sense of the work ethic.

An individual with good executive presence, who possesses a touch of class, and is of the highest personal and professional integrity.

Strong preference for a college graduate. A Certified Club Manager (CCM) designation would be viewed as a distinct plus.

A golfer with a sincere appreciation for the game and significant experience in providing an outstanding golf program to his/her members.
