Principal’s Report

Our students have seriously enjoyed the first three days of swim school at the Glen Innes Aquatic Centre. Remember to pack swimmers and a towel that are clearly labelled with your child’s name, so any misplaced items can be returned quickly.

A friendly reminder that your child’s attendance at school is compulsory. Please ensure, when your child cannot attend school due to either illness or other approved leave, you notify the office with an explanation within seven days. You can phone, send a note, use the GIPS app or email any reasons for non-attendance. We look forward to seeing your child at school daily, ready to learn, because accumulative days absent means your child is significantly missing out on important learning.

This week we look forward to a very special visit from the NSW Minister for Education and Early Childhood Learning, The Hon. Sarah Mitchell, Member for Northern Tablelands, The Hon. Adam Marshall, and Director Educational Leadership for the Northern Tablelands Network, Mr Matt Hobbs. They are visiting a number of schools who have recently been impacted by fire and drought. They will spend time in classrooms with our students as they discover the incredible opportunities offered to all students at Glen Innes Public School.

As the weather warms, it is important to look after our child’s wellbeing. Please remind them to dress appropriately before leaving home. Colourful hoodies no longer need to be worn, however, it would be a great idea to have a light weight jumper in your child’s bag in case we do experience a cold snap. Please also remind your child to drink lots of water, wear their hat when outside and play in shaded areas wherever possible.

Wish Upon A Star

Students from rural and regional towns across NSW went to Sydney on the weekend for a circuit-breaker from the unrelenting drought and GIPS were lucky enough to have 4 students selected to participate; Harlow, Archie, Ellie and Daniel. On Friday the 22 November, we headed off to Sydney until Sunday with 50 other students from around the region to participate in the Department of Education initiative 'Wish Upon A Star' with a total of over 150 students from NSW.

We had a weekend at the Broken Bay Sport and Recreation Centre on the Hawkesbury River and it was a chance for them to experience the excitement of things others take for granted.

They were in awe of seeing trees, seeing water in rivers, feeling soft, green grass under their feet. We were lucky to attend the Schools Spectacular at Qudos Bank Arena, which was phenomenal. The students also participated in activities at the Sport and Rec centre including games, fishing and swimming at the beach. The students were all absolutely amazing and it was a pleasure to take these students to Sydney. Thank you to all involved.

State Athletics Carnival

On Tuesday 5 November, I went down to Sydney to represent North West in the 1500m and 800m. In the morning of the next day, I ran the 1500m. I came 27th out of 38 and a time of 5.30. Later that afternoon, I ran the 800m and came 34th out of 39 and ran a time of 2.50. I really enjoyed running on a synthetic track and running against the top runners in the state. Leo

On 5th November I went to Sydney for athletics and competed in long jump. I tried my hardest and eventually got 12th out of 38 other people. It was fun and I had a good experience. Izabella

I took a train down to Sydney and I came about 25 out of 41 people. I jumped 3.59m in my first jump, 3.32m on my second jump and 3.27m on my final jump. It was awesome. Jaydan

P&C School Banking

As our school banking year is nearing the end we would like to thank everyone who has supported the program this year. We have seen a lot of regular bankers each week which has been fantastic. Our last day of banking for the year will be Thursday 12th December. Orders for reward items placed after this week will not be processed or sent until 2020. You will still receive them, but there will be a little wait. Just a reminder that if you are moving on to High School in 2020 but have siblings still attending the school, they are able to continue banking for you each week.

If anyone has siblings starting school in 2020 with us, hop online or pop into the branch to set up their account so they can start banking next year.

I would like to extend a big thank You to Mrs Martin who has been assisting with school banking for the past 2-3 years. She has been an amazing contributor to school banking. Sadly Mrs Martin will not be with us next year as she and her family are moving interstate. We wish them all the best in their new school.

This means that we have a school banking position that needs filling. Please let us know if you would be interested in helping in this position. It would be once a fortnight from 8.40 for approximately an hour. You don’t need to have banking experience to help out.

We hope you have a wonderful Christmas break and we will see you back in 2020.

Poetry and writing simulated from a students photo of the fires on their property.

Samuel from 2K shared a photo at dusk of the fires on his property. This very real event inspired 2K in their writing and drawing.

Fire Safety

If you or your child/ren have experienced trauma as a result of the fires threatening our community, please contact our local New England North West HealthWISE service on 6766 1394 or visit https://healthwisenenw.com.au/

2K jointly constructed persuasive text on

why rain is important and created artworks

titled ‘Water Saving”.
