I – Welcome Statement:The Department of Plastic Surgery welcomes you to the Medical Doctorate in

Plastic Surgery program. As a department we are committed to doctorate candidate education and continuously strive to improve your educational experience.This handbook presents information guide and logbook activity of this degree administered by the Plastic Surgery department, Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University.

II - Mission Statement:The mission of the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University is

• The preparation of a competent graduate, who is able to compete on both national and regional levels, capable of life long learning, training and tutoring, while adhering to the codes of practice of medical health services and ethics.

The aim of this degree is to qualify a physician to be able to manage patients having congenital, traumatic, oncologic, burn and cosmetic disorders (including diagnosis and non-operative and operative treatment) as well as planning correctly for the treatment of deformed cases. Knowledge and understanding:By the end of the program the candidate will be able to: a1- Know the surgical anatomy of the head and neck, upper limbs, lower limbs, and trunk.a2- Recognize the histology and pathology of skin, bone, cartilage, muscle, and connective tissue.a3- Understand the basic plastic surgery research and its toolsa4- Understand the pharmacologic principles of drug therapy in plastic surgerya5- Understand the principles of case management and operative intervention in different plastic surgery subspecialities including congenital anomalies, trauma, tumours and burn. Medicolegal and quality assurance aspects should be considered.a6- List red flags for plastic surgeons to refuse to treat certain patients with psychiatric disordersa7- Know the required positions for photographing each anatomical region.a8- Enumerate different types of sculpture. Sculpture materials should be environmental friendly.a9- Identify computer graphics medical applicationsb.
