In February 2015 we made the difficult decision to close at weekends - we were simply unable to find the funds to continue our weekend service.Our weekend volunteers came together to form a fundraising group to restore weekend provision, and with support from corporatesponsors including Gowling WLG, The MichaelMarch Charitable Trust, Capita and DeutscheBank as well as the public, they quicklyexceeded their target.

If you don’t fancy taking part in sponsored events there aremany other ways you can help to raise money in aid of SIFA Fireside. Here are some ideas below:

Give up something for a month and donate the money you wouldhave spent (you can get sponsored too, to raise even more)

Working as a team or as competing teams, take an initialdonation and find a way to double it. For example,one team used their initial £40 donation and boughtthe ingredients for and then made cupcakeswhich they sold to colleagues, raising £110.

Hold a raffle

Do a sponsored silence

Have a dress down day or themed fancy dress day

If you are planning a collection on private property such as a pub or supermarket, you need written

permission from the owner or manager. Make sure you tell people that you are a volunteer collecting in aid

of SIFA Fireside. Keep the manager’s letter with you when collecting. Contact us at office@sifafireside.co.uk

and we can provide you with a tamper proof collection tin and a letter confirming that you are collecting

in aid of SIFA Fireside. Please be advised that you cannot collect funds in the street, in any public place,

or house-to-house without a licence.

If you are planning a small event at home or with friends remember, as the organiser, you can be held

responsible for any accidents or issues that arise. If your event is in a public area or involves more than 50

people you should contact your local council for any necessary permissions, licensing, trading standards,

and health and safety issues. You should do a risk assessment for your event including first aid and fire safety

(you might wish to contact your local St John’s Ambulance and your local fire station for advice).

If your event is at a hired venue they can help as they will have a standard risk assessment for the premises.

If the event may obstruct traffic (such as cycling events) then you should let the Council and the Police know

and apply for any required permissions. Relevant local guidance and site specific information should be

adhered to when planning an event.

It’s good practice to have a written and signed contract with the owner of any venue that is being hired,

and any other third parties.

If you are planning to include a raffle in your event you must charge a standard price for each ticket.

The raffle must be drawn before the close of the event. You must purchase a local lottery license from your

council if you plan to run your raffle / lottery over a longer period of time or sell tickets at more than one venue.

Make sure your event complies with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 if it’s at work or involves

volunteers.

Who will be involved and who will sponsor or donate money?

What do you want to do?

How will you do it? Now’s the time to think about the practical aspectsof what you need to succeed ...how many people you want involved,how much resources you will need and how much you aim to raise.

Share with everyone the total amount raised.

Share photos and stories from the event with your sponsors,on social media and with us.

Send SIFA Fireside the donation online, by cheque or bank transfer.

Make sure you have completed a risk assessment for your event or activity(if needed) and that you have taken out any insurance you may need.

It's quick and easy to set up a JustGiving Fundraising Page. Just go to www.justgiving.com and follow the instructions. We are registered withJustGiving so you can search for us and link your fundraising activity to our charity.

JustGiving makes it simple for your friends, family and colleagues to sponsor you online.Please note that JustGiving charges a small administration fee on each donation to the charity.

Sponsorship forms Use the sponsorship form and ask donors to sponsor you. If they select Gift Aid this will boost their donation by 25p of Gift Aid for every £1 they donate. Once you have collected the sponsorship money you can simply drop this in to our office.

If you would like a photograph with you making the donation to share with your sponsors, just drop us a line in advance so we can support this. You can make donations at the office by cash or cheque (we cannot take card payments). Alternatively, you can make an online payment (see online payments).We will also need the completed sponsorship form so that we can claim Gift Aidon your donations.

Online payments

If you collect your sponsorship money, rather than bringing it in to us in person, you can arrange a direct bank transfer through your bank direct to our bank account. Please contact us at office@sifafireside.co.uk and we can provide you with our bank account details. Please also include a scanned copy of your completed sponsorship form so that we can claim the Gift Aid on your donations. This also means that we can keep an eye out for your transfer and confirmreceipt once it reaches our account.

JustGiving

SIFA Fireside is a dynamic Birminghamcharity which works with homeless andvulnerable adults to provide immediatehelp and achieve lasting change.

SIFA Fireside was formed in 2007 through the merger of two well established Birmingham charities: SIFA (Supporting Independence from Alcohol) set up in 1982, and the Fireside Charity set up in 1983.In combination we have been delivering services for over 30 years.Today, SIFA Fireside works seven days a week with some of the most vulnerable adults in our society: those experiencing homelessness or who are vulnerably-housed. Many of the people we work with (our clients) are affected by alcohol, facing mental and physical health problems or otherwise socially excluded.

SIFA Fireside is probably best known to people in Birmingham through its Drop In Centre and services based in Digbeth where we run a daily Drop In service. Seeing over 140 people per day. Our clients are some of Birmingham’s most vulnerable adults with diverse and complex needs. We provide over 1000 breakfasts, 2000 lunches and 400 showers each month. As well as making sure people don’t go without these basic necessities, our partners provide access to a nurse, opticians, and dental clinic, drug and alcohol support services, and tenancy support.

All services that SIFA Fireside provide are free and confidential. We are funded by Birmingham City Council contracts, donations from charitable trusts, corporate sponsors, funding awards, fundraising and income generation (through our training programmes). We employ more than 30 mainly part-time staff, with over 70 active volunteers working with us ona regular basis to make the day-to-day running of our services possible.
