What We Did:
I have a very nice camera, but I didn’t know how to use it. So, Flat Madalyn came with me to a place where they teach people how to take pictures. Learning how to use my camera came in very handy for this project.

Event: An afternoon in nature

Meadowside Nature Center in Montgomery Village, Maryland
What We Did:I work for the Park system in my area. Flat Madalyn came with me to a near-by Nature Center where they offer hands-on environmental programs. We got to meet a corn snake, travel in a pioneer’s canoe, feed a turkey vulture, and say hello to their resident bald eagle.

Navy Memorial and Museum, National Archives Building, China Town, and a view of the Capitolin Washington, DC
What We Did:
I had to travel downtown Washington, DC (our nation’s Capital) for a work conference. Flat Madalyn joined me as we visited and viewed some of the most important buildings in our country.

What We Did:
After my work conference, we took a short walk over to one of the most famous “houses” in all the world, The White House. It was too bad we couldn’t go in!

What We Did:
We traveled a short distance from home to visit an open Amish Market where they sell fresh produce, bread, and even candies. But their handmade pretzels are the best. Flat Madalyn even got a bite.

Event: Passover Sedar

What We Did:
My family is Jewish, and one of our most important holidays is Passover. Every year in the Spring, we hold what is called a Sedar to honor the liberation of the Jewish people as slaves in Egypt. An important part of Jewish tradition is “Tzedakah” or giving. At this holiday, we invite all who are hungry to the table.

Visit #7: Spring Has SprungVisit #7: Spring Has Sprung
Event: Cherry Blossom Festival

Tidal Basin, Washington Monument and Jefferson Memorialin Washington, DC
What We Did:
Spring in DC is absolutely beautiful. The area is filled with Cherry Blossom trees, which have light pink petals. Flat Madalyn, Alyce, Jeff and I took part in the annual celebration as well as some good photo opps with memorials to two famous Presidents, Thomas Jefferson and George Washington.

Event: Just a day at the office

Montgomery County Department of Parks Headquarters and Brookside Gardens in Silver Spring, MD
What We Did:
One of the perks of working for Parks is that I often get to go outside during my day. Lucky for Madalyn, she was able to come too. We took a walk on the Sligo Creek Trail, rested by the tulip garden, and said hello to some Terrapin turtles.

What We Did:
Every night, our family has a “B” ritual. We drink bah-bah (milk), brush (our teeth), books (read), and then bed. After a long day of playing, Aly helped Flat Madalyn fall asleep under blankie.
