PUBLISHERSNOTE
If you had to choose a South African expression for ‘Bah! Humbug’ what would it be?
SSR: Hmmmbug.
CD: I would say ‘Laain’.
ML: Hamba!
A Christmas Carol is an institution at festive time all over the world, how do you think it will be received by the South African Audience?
CD: I think this play is exactly what South Africans need right now…to share in the spirit of giving.
ML: I believe that audiences are going to thoroughly enjoy our South African take on A CHRISTMAS CAROL. Ultimately, it’s still a beautiful Dickens story with a happy ending. And there’s something inside all of us that wants everything to work out in the end.
What unique quirks do you believe you have brought to your respective characters?
ML: The story is set in Cape Town, so there’s no getting away from that delicious, unique Capetonian accent. I have a feeling that Mr Dickens is turning in his English grave!
The shows description says it ‘promises to bring together all the people of Cape Town’, what do you believe each member of the audience will walk away with?
SSR: Audiences will leave the theatre feeling happy, elated, celebrated and hopefully with a warm smile.
ML: A programme, a box of nutties, and a warm fuzzy feeling.
What is your fondest Christmas memory?
SSR: I have lots of fond memories up until my dad passed away in 2000.
CD: Being around the table with family, and my grandfather making a speech.
ML: That new little suit which was going to be worn on Christmas morning, even if it was 40 degrees in the shade!
