Collaborating with national provincial police forces

Deployment of Neighbourhood Safety Officers (NSO) at

Roll-Out of Operation Exodus: free vehicle safety checks of busses and minibus vehicles that will travel on highways reducing road death toll at following Public Transport Interchanges:

R27 and Epping

Check points and speed checks

Deployment of officers at special events across the City

Free vehicle safety checks for motorists undertaking holidays on major routes across City and outside Western Cape Province

Driver and vehicle fitness

Drunk driving

Enforcement

Transportation and dealing of illegal narcotics

Focused patrols and deployment at:

Places of entertainment

Routes to and from major shopping centres

Fire and Rescue Services

Enhancing operational capacity dealing with increase of

fire emergencies

Deployment of 120 season fire-fighters (Nov – Dec)

24/7 Operationalization of 30 fire stations Citywide

Deployment of 75 reservist fire-fighters

Public awareness campaigns regarding fire safety

City Health Services

City clinics to function over Festive Season

Primary Health Care Clinics opened on weekdays

Western Cape Government Community Health Centres (day

hospitals) open on weekdays; weekends and public holidays

City Environmental Health Department and Water and

Sanitation (Scientific Services) monitoring quality of drinking

water and recreational water

Increased monitoring of:

food premises

accommodation establishment

Public facilities

Special Events

Solid Waste Management (Cleansing)

R10.5 million budgeted for cleansing

Uninterrupted refuse removal over festive season

2,353 extra cleansing staff appointed

Focused on cleaning in business districts, scenic

routes and beaches

Social and Early Childhood Development

Partnering with City’s Displaced People’s Unit and NGOs reducing

people living on streets

Facilitating holistic developmental and integrated approach to working

with street people

Programmes preventing migration of people to streets

Prevention programmes focused on life skills and education

Sport, Recreation and Amenities

1,500 holiday programmes running daily (5 December – 15 January

Deployment of 180 temporary play leaders (EPWP) boosting staff

capacity at beaches, swimming pools and play parks

Deployment of 250 trained and accredited lifeguards between 10:00 –

18:00 on beaches.

Sport, Recreation and Amenities

Deployment of Lifesaving Western Cape; NSRI and medic helicopter

Beach wheelchairs available at 10 beaches

226 lifeguards at City’s 36 swimming pools

All public pools will be opened between (10:00 – 17:00 daily)

Deployment of 26 shark spotters along False Bay coastline

Extending services by 30 minutes (9 – 24

December 2013) (except the Airport route)

31 December: all services extending until 1AM of

the morning of 01 January 2013 (except the Airport

route)
