As we end Catholic Schools Week, I reflect on the Open House we hosted a few weeks ago. It was well attended by prospective fami-lies, who seem excited about St. Susanna School. It was interesting to learn that about ¾ of the people heard about St. Susanna not from signs or advertisements but from St. Susanna parish families! It was appropriate, then, that St. Susanna parishioner Jim Poole spoke at masses last weekend to share his family’s Catholic school journey. His boys – who are now sophomores at Roncalli High School – earn 4.2 and 3.7 GPAs and play varsity golf. In fact, over 90% of St. Susanna graduates have achieved the Honor Roll at their respective high schools. Additionally, 45 St. Susanna gradu-ates are currently playing IHSAA sports at 9 area public and private high schools. More importantly, his boys are continuing to live the Catholic values reinforced by St. Susanna School. Clearly, St. Susanna School prepares children to meet the challenges of high school! Thanks to everyone who helped make the Sparty Party such a fun event! Special thanks to Toni Ellis, who organized the event. Thanks also to the many volunteers who helped make the event run smoothly. Congratulations to the “Speedway” Crew on their big win! Everyone had a great time, regardless of the score. Spartan Spirit Awards - For week of January 22: Mary Burger, Cecilia Prather, Aoife Taheny, Jackson Hewlett, Savannah Acker, Thomas Andres. Keep letting your lights shine! Keep letting your light shine!

What Every Parent Needs to Know About Child Development: Thursday, February 8; 6:30pm. Did you know that at certain ages, a child’s brain goes through growth stages that can impact behavior, attitude, and learning? Find out about these stages and how you can help your child navigate through them. *Deanna Nibarger is the Social and Emotional Behavior Coach in MSD Washington Township. She attended Indiana University for undergrad and earned a degree in Elementary Education and Spe-cial Education. Recently, she earned Masters in Educational School Leadership and a Neuroscience Certificate from Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Deanna has worked in resource, life-skills, intensive-intervention self contained, and general education class-room settings. Her work in educational neuroscience began in 2013 with Dr. Lori Desautels, professor at Butler University. The two col-laborated in her 5th grade classroom and brought these strategies to life with great success. Deanna continues to integrate this work throughout her district and around the country and is excited to share this framework with each one of you.

School News DOZENS & DOZENS of THANKS!
Thank you to the wonderful group of parishioners who ar-ranged for the reception following the First Reconciliation ser-vice. The children and their families enjoyed dozens of cookies made with love and given from the heart. We are a blessed community!
In the Know with CLOW…
The youth at St. Susanna have really adapted to our implementation of Children’s Liturgy Of the Word. We offer CLOW to the youth in kinder-garten through second grade at the 9:00 am Mass each weekend that there is also morning religious educa-tion. The kids love having a part of the Mass that is just for them. We have special readings, sing our own ‘Alleluia’ to the tune of ‘Jingle Bells’ , offer personal intentions and bring forth the gifts as we process back into Mass. We are always looking for adult volunteers and any older youth that would enjoy “helping” the younger kids pay attention. CLOW is an excellent way to grow the community of St. Susanna. Our young parish family members enjoy “owning” part of the service and love recognizing faces in the crowd dur-ing the exchange of peace. If you are interested in helping CLOW in any way, please contact Laura Demerly at [email protected]. As we enter the holy season of Lent, we will be inviting the
CLOWers to participate in the regular Lenten activities of our
parish; most specifically we will remind the youth their families
can bring back palms for burning to ashes for Ash Wednesday,
invite the kids to add a prayer on purple paper to the prayer
cross in the Gathering Space when prayer is needed, with their
families they can remove a paper with another church mem-
ber’s prayer need and to offer their Lenten sacrifice on the pink
paper slips to place in the glass vases. We may even have our
own poster board to celebrate our personal growth and love
during Lent as well. So be on the lookout for more from
CLOW. And as always, thank you for your support and
prayers.

CATHOLIC WOMEN’S CONFERENCE, MARCH 10, 2018
Right now, we need St. Susanna women to attend the annual Catholic Women’s Conference on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at the Indiana Convention Center’s 500 Ballroom, downtown Indi-anapolis. For the fourth year, St. Susanna Respect Life Ministry has volunteered to coordinate a group table of ten to attend the Conference. The advantage is twofold: first, you can enjoy a day of spiritual renewal and fellowship with other St. Susanna women; second, joining us enables you to get the group rate of $45 per person. Speakers are Monsignor Charles Pope of EWTN fame; Sonja Corbett, Bible Study Evangelista; and Mother Margaret Mary, founder of Mary’s Children. See the poster on the bulletin board in the Gathering Space to sign up. You can also call or text Judy at 317-507-4249 to reserve your seat. Come join us! 40 DAYS FOR LIFE – SPRING CAMPAIGN NEEDS PRAYER
