From our Pastor Dear Folks:
Items for this week:
**Lent: Within this bulletin are the Lenten regulations and parish spiritual opportunities for the season of Lent; plus, a parish letter was mailed to let folks know of the spiritual opportunities available at the parish during the season of Lent. This is a special time of year. I know that so many make Lenten resolutions to either add something or fast from something for the 40 days of Lent. Let us remember that these sacrifices we make are meant to draw us closer to God and away from sin; that is so priceless and valuable to all of us. Let us pray for a holy Lent. It will make us stronger both in our devotion to God and love for faith.
Also, during the Season of Lent, please remember the Saint Joseph Perpetual Adoration Chapel on the campus. Many people during Lent make frequent visits to the chapel. It is open 24/7; at sunset a code is placed on the chapel door to allow access and security. If you want to make an evening visit and need the code, please contact the rectory office: 314-961-8400.
**Ministry of the Sick: Brothers and sisters, one area of ministry that really needs to be front and center is ministry to the sick. I know that the parish C.A.R.E. organization does a wonder-ful job ministering to the sick. If you would like a clergy-visit to a sick family member, friend, and/or parishioner, please let the rectory office know. Nancy Shroff, parish pastoral associate, is the contact person for this. Please let her know if you want a member of the clergy to visit and it will be done! And, I want to thank Nancy Gleason and the C.A.R.E. organization for their devotion to those who are homebound and/or sick.
**40 Days for Life: On Saturday, February 29th, Saint Mary Magdalen is partnering with Little Flower Parish to actively participate in, “40 Days for Life.” At this event, people are asked to come down to the abortion clinic and peacefully and charitably pray in front of the abortion clinic to stop abortions. The harm done to women, family, society, and, of course, children is sad and it is stoppable. We just need to keep praying for life and we just need to keep charitably challenging our local, state, and federal lawmakers to give the unborn their dignity and right to legal protections. If you can participate for a bit on that Saturday, February 29th, there is a sign-up sheet in the vestibule of the Church.
Let us pray for a spiritually rich Lent!
Fr. Jack

Stewardship Reflection February 23, 2020
7th Sunday in Ordinary Time
“But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you…” Matthew 5:44
Love your enemies, easier said than done, no
doubt. But, remember, the foundation of stewardship is prayer. When we are in close
communication with God, it opens our heart and it turns our attention away from “me” and moves it towards God and others. It allows us to have a little more empathy for “our enemy”. When we pray for others, even “our enemies”, maybe it
softens their hearts as well.
How can YOU participate at Saint Mary Magdalen?
Family Faith Formation...Family faith formation replaced P.S.R. and is designed for those families whose children do not attend Saint Mary Magdalen
Day School. You can volunteer to help on the scheduled mornings by contacting Jennifer Meehan at 314-961-8400 ext. 104

The Sunday morning session will begin on Sunday, March 1 and the Monday evening session will begin on March 2. The morning and evening sessions are interchangeable. The session will last for 5 weeks.

ARCHDIOCESAN LENTEN REGULATIONS
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.”
(John 3:16-17)
The Church has always helped us fulfill these words of Jesus by prescribing very definite penance for all Catholics, so that we too might have Eternal life. Accordingly, the Pope and the American Bishops have outlined obligatory fast and abstinence as follows:
Ash Wednesday (February 26, 2020), all Fridays of Lent and Good Friday (April 10, 2020) are days of absti-nence (refraining from meat) for all Catholics from age 14 onwards. On these two days, fast, as well as absti-nence, is also obligatory for those from the ages of 18-59. Abstinence means refraining from meat. Fast means one full meal a day, with two smaller meals and nothing between meals (liquids are permitted). No Catholic will lightly excuse himself or herself from this obligation.
We should strive to make all days of Lent a time of prayer and penance. Following are several resources that can aid in finding different forms of prayer and penance.
As a single professional, Baby Isabella’s mother was in the target market for abor-tion. But as she drove into the abortion facility, she discovered people praying for her and her unborn baby. Some held signs, and all were peaceful and loving. These people were 40 Days for Life.
Coalition For Life St. Louis is the local host of 40 Days for Life, which brings to-gether thousands of Christians for 40 days of continuous prayer, fasting, and peaceful vigil in front of the abortion facility. Saint Mary Magdalen and Little Flower will be the loving presence of Christ outside the abortion facility at 4251 Forest Park Ave. on Saturday, February 29 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Please contact Carrie Parent at 314-249-5550 to sign up for your hour(s), or sign up on the sign up sheets in the back of church to see what hours need to be filled. Baby Isabella is here today because her mother found help, love and hope during 40 Days for Life. You may just make the difference for another family.
