In 2009, I attended every conference, seminar and convention pertaining to local, state and national real estate trends that I could physically get to, including a leadership conference in Chicago for Board President Elects, and the National Association of Realtors® Convention in San Diego this past November. One of the things I learned was that the national housing forecast is no more useful than a long term weather forecast, and that statistics don’t always tell the whole story.

As I’m sure most people know, the real estate industry has been in a slump for quite some time now and it hasn’t been the best time to try and sell a property that was purchased 5 or 6 years ago. The pulse of real estate has been faint at best nationwide, but if I’ve learned anything over this past year, I’ve learned that real estate is local and that not all markets have suffered like Florida, Arizona and Nevada. Those areas have actually rebounded quite nicely in the last two quarters of 2009.
