Parks and Recreation Youth and Seniors Activity Scholarship Application Policy:

It is the policy of the Town of Huntersville Parks & Recreation Department to provide recreational opportunities to all the resi-dents of Huntersville. Some programs require the payment of a fee to cover the expenses incurred by offering the program. Realizing the need to include all residents in these opportuni-ties, the Town of Huntersville will offer financial assistance to the youth and seniors of Huntersville meeting the guidelines listed in this document. The number of scholarships will be offered to twenty percent (20%) of the spaces available in each program. The twenty percent (20%) of spaces available for scholarships will be split in half between the fifty percent (50%) discounted rate and the twenty-five percent (25%) discounted rate. If all scholarships are not used by the end of the registration period those who received scholarships may receive the original dis-counted rate until all discounted funds are used up for that par-ticular program. All residents will be required to pay a portion of the fee for each program. There will be no full scholarships given by the Town of Huntersville for any Parks and Recreation activ-ity. One scholarship per household per program, unless there are unused scholarships for that particular program at the end of registration, which then will be given out by first-come first-served basis. Applicants will be required to provide proof of in-come with the most current W-2 form or official documentation from CMS of meeting eligibility standards for financial assistance. Failure to provide this information will void this application.

AVAILABLE ASSISTANCEIf a resident qualifies for reduced price meals through the CMS eligibility standards, they will be eligible for a discount of twenty-five percent (25%) of the published fee. If a resident qualifies for free meals through CMS eligibility stan-dards, they will be eligible for a discount of fifty percent (50%) of the published fee.

INCLUSIONHuntersville Parks & Recreation Department welcomes indi-viduals of all abilities into its programs and activities as well as encourages the individuals to participate as independently as is possible in the activity of his/her choice. REFUND POLICYIn developing a refund policy for the Parks and Recreation De-partment, the Administration would like to make it clear that the intention to give refunds will be priority. The Department aims to please the consumer and would never intentionally cause the public to be unsatisfied. In trying to develop fair and consistent policies, the Department realizes that there will be cases where special circumstances will arise. Those cases will be evaluated on an individual basis if the request and reason is submitted in writing to the Programming Division. Please understand that the following guidelines will be used to issue refunds out of fairness to all parties.

1. Participants may request a refund for any program for any reason. All refund requests must come to the Administrative Office of the Town of Huntersville Parks & Recreation Department. No requests may be taken off-site at programs or other facilities.

2. A complete refund will be issued if a participant withdraws from a program prior to three (3) business days of the start of the program or if an activity is canceled by the Parks and Recreation Department.

Sign Language for Toddlers Signing Time Classes are a great way for you and your child to play, sing and sign together. It’s a fun and interactive way to introduce your young child to American Sign Language. Adding simple ASL vo-cabulary to daily interactions enhances communication and reduces toddlers’ frustration. “Terrible two’s” aren’t so terri-ble when your toddler can communicate his/her wants and needs.

My Little PicassoAt My Little Picasso, we believe in stimu-lating your child’s senses and exploring the different facets of art through touch, smell, taste and sight. While many stu-dios don’t offer classes for children until they are 18 months of age, at My Little Picasso, we welcome babies as young as 9 months and children through age four (4). It’s not about creating a masterpiece; it’s about letting your child explore art on his or her own terms in a structured, yet relaxed, environment. We offer beginner classes for the new little Picassos and a follow up advanced class for those who have already taken the beginner class.

Kindermusik with Beyond Boundaries Arts

Infants, toddlers, and preschoolers can be musicians too! We offer several class-es catered to the youngest children with their parents to stimulate early child-hood development. Parent and child will engage in a music and movement expe-rience which offers a comfortable and creative environment for children to ex-press themselves through music, singing, and dance. Kindermusik helps identify and activate individual creativity in the child and develops those gifts through a variety of fun social and educational ac-tivities. All of our classes include a music CD and instrument materials to continue learning and making music with your child at home. Parents who participate in a Kindermusik class love the confidence and joy their children gain and cherish the moments from making music and learning together. Contact us to sched-ule a preview. We’re positive you’ll have a musical blast.
