Falls Church Arts Catalogue 2013-14TRANSCRIPT
Falls Church Arts is opening its second decade with a new program, Expanding the Arts. As we widen op-portunities to experience the creative process and the joy and challenge of artistic expression, we are adding locations outside of our home at ArtSpace Falls Church for studio arts classes, demonstrations, and other programming. The additional Falls Church locations will include:

FALLS CHURCH ARTS 5TH ANNUAL PLEIN AIR FESTIVAL— “SCENES IN THE CITY”

Plein Air painting is done outdoors to capture the atmospheric color and energy of the landscape and those in it. This 5th Annual Falls Church Plein Air Festival, featuring works created in Falls Church City, will span the many phases of Spring with its beautiful fresh colors and run well into the full lushness of summer. This extended period will allow artists to find many potential “Scenes in the City of Falls Church,” including major events, such as the Memorial Day Parade, Tinner Hill Blues Festival, and celebration of Arbor Day, and the many historic buildings as well as those under construction. Artists are invited to enter and have their sup-ports officially stamped before they start painting. Competition is open to all artists. Cash awards for the first-, second-, and third-place winners will be presented by the award sponsors and the Plein Air judge on the day of the competition, Saturday, June 21.

The Print Lab provides a general overview and allows students new to printmaking as well as experienced printmaking artists to gather together and work individually with other artists. Some tools, lino-leum or wood, ink, paper, rollers and burnishing tools will be avail-able for purchase or use during the lab hours by Open Lab leaders who can instruct on the techniques and use of materials, tools on linoleum, wood, etc. Printing paper and supplies will be provided at cost for students who do not have supplies.

In2005hehadtheopportunitytostudyatStudioIncamminatiforayearwithrenownedartistNelsonShanks.uponleavingIncamminatihesettledinasmallstudioinnorthernVirginia,wherehiscareerinpaintingbegan.Incontinuinghiseducation,SethtookclassesundermasterfigureandportraitpainterRobertLiberace.ItwasatthistimethatSethalsostartedteachinghimself. He infused his teaching with the strongest elements of all his teach-ers,alongwithhispersonalapproachestowhathefeelsisacomprehensivetechniqueforbothbeginnersandamateurs.
