WHY DO I NEED A MONITORED HOME SECURITY SYSTEM?

In today’s world, it’s absolutely vital to take positive steps to ensure the safety of your family and property. An alarm system monitored by Gardon Securities can provide you with the protection and peace of mind you deserve.

Did You Know…• 1 out of 250 homes will experience damage or loss due to fire.• 1 in every 4 homes will be targeted for a property crime.• 1 burglary occurs in North American homes every 13 seconds.• Carbon monoxide poisoning kills nearly 500 people each year.Statistics show that a home with a monitored security system is three times less likely to be burglarized. A monitored residential alarm system provides the maximum protection for you and your family.

How an Alarm System WorksA residential alarm system has four parts - window/door sensors, a motion detector, the alarm unit, and a control panel with display and keypad. Gardon Securities works with you to select a secure place to install the alarm unit, as well as a convenient location near an entryway for the keypad. Whether your alarm self-activates or you initiate the call for help, your alarm system will seize your phone line and dial the Gardon Securities monitoring centre. Following strict procedures, our professional dispatchers act quickly to contact you and verify your alarm signal and situation. Within seconds after your signal, the appropriate police, fire, medical, or other authorities are on their way to your home.

What You Need in an Alarm SystemGardon Securities has a solid reputation for a fast, efficient response to every alarm. That’s why people say, “When seconds count, you can count on Gardon.” In a true emergency, response time is critical. Our professional operators are trained to act quickly with precision and confidence whenever our Monitoring Center receives an alarm signal.

Information AccuracyTo ensure an accurate response, our advanced monitoring equipment interprets and records each signal received, while our operators rapidly access account information to relay vital facts to the authorities.

System ReliabilityGardon Securities quality and performance meets or exceeds Canadian Standards Association strict requirements for all electronic safety and security equipment. We maintain the latest monitoring technology with triple-redundant systems.

Insurance DiscountsMany insurance companies will offer you a discount of up to 25 percent when you have a home or business security system that protects you against intrusion and fire. Check with your insurer for details on how your insurance rates will be discounted.

Peace of Mind While TravelingA monitored security system will help protect you whether you are at home or away. If you travel often and the house is empty, Our monitored systems can help prevent intrusion, fires, floods, and damage due to low temperatures. If you travel and leave loved ones or pets at home, using the stay mode feature on our security system allows you to be protected from home invasions while roaming freely inside your home.

PATRICK PARK DISC GOLF COURSEContact: www.facebook.com/PatrickParkDiscGolf

Headed to Yorkton... make sure to pack your golf discs.Yorkton is home to a well-treed, 18 - par 60.And close by Springside has an 18 tonal target course that is a par 54.The pair of courses is not surprising given that disc golf is one of the fastest growing sports in North America.Patrick Park Disc Golf Course itself was opened in June 2011. The nine basket course has proved a challenge for experienced disc golfers with trees to manoeuvre through from almost every tee box, and yet forgiving for beginners since the course does not have hazards where discs can be lost. The original course at Patrick Park cover 2379 feet. This spring, spear-headed by local players, and supported by the City, a set of nine alternate tee boxes were installed, which afford players an opportunity to play a ‘back-nine’ with new approaches to the existing baskets. The alternate configuration is longer at 3037 feet, and

provides more technical elements than the original course, including mandatories (designated spots the disc must pass in a predetermined way, two established drop zones, and additional out-of-bounds areas). There will also be a disc golf gathering Tuesday evenings from May through until September with players of all skills encouraged to come out for a round. The first tournament, a Trilogy Challenge event was held Aug. 29 and there are plans in the works for an event early in December as a Christmas season fundraiser.

For those unfamiliar with the sport disc golf it “is a flying disc game, as well as a precision and accuracy sport, in which individual players throw a flying disc at a target. According to the Professional Disc Golf Association, “The object of the game is to traverse a course from beginning to end in the fewest number of throws of the disc. The number of disc golf courses doubled in the eight years from 2000 to 2008. The game is played in about 40 countries around the world.”Interestingly, according to one source, “the first known instance of anyone playing golf with a flying disc occurred in Bladworth, Saskatchewan, Canada in 1926. Ronald Gibson and a group of his Bladworth Elementary School buddies played a game throwing tin plates at targets such as trees and fence posts. They called the game Tin Lid Golf and played on a fairly regular basis on a disc golf course they laid out on their school grounds.”The golf discs used today are much smaller and heavier than traditionally flying disc, typically about eight or 9 inches (20 or 23 cm) in diameter and weighing between 90 and 180 grams. Discs used for the disc golf are designed and shaped for control, speed and accuracy. There is a wide variety of discs used in disc golf and they are generally divided into three categories: putters, all-purpose mid-range discs, and drivers. The course is open for play basically year-round, with local disc golfers out through December 2014, with a final round New Year’s day.For those wanting to try the game, discs can be picked

up at the City’s Parks Shop at 263 Myrtle Avenue during regular business hours. To stay connected with disc golf head to facebook, search Disc Golf Courses of the Parkland and join other enthusiasts.

Yorkton Wrestling Club (Ages 10 and up)Wrestling is a combat sport involving grappling type techniques such as clinch fighting, throws and takedowns, pins and other grappling holds. A wrestling bout is a physical competition, between two competitors or sparring partners, who attempt to gain and maintain a superior position. Wrestling represents one of the oldest forms of combat. The techniques learned in our programs are taken from Greco Roman, scholastic and modern freestyle wrestling. Students can train for the physical fitness benefits and/or competition.Phone 306-641-9774 or 306-621-1555 or visit us at 50 Broadway St. W. (1 block east of McDonalds)

www.yorktonsnoriders.comFormed in 1990 by a handful of local snowmobile enthusiasts, the Yorkton Sno-Riders Club has grown to become a group of which any city can be proud. These founding members all shared a desire to create a strong family-oriented club which would work for the betterment of snowmobiling. The club meets the second Wednesday of the month from October to April at their clubhouse just outside of Yorkton. Family memberships are $25.00 and can be purchased at your favorite local snowmobile dealer. The Sno-Riders maintain 400 kilometers of groomed snowmobile trails and has increased its membership base to over 120 families this past year. The solid commitment of the club members is clearly displayed by our trail groomer fleet consisting of three groomers valued at over $300,000.00 and several part-time operators. The nine warm-up shelters we maintain throughout our trail system ensure you are never far from a place to warm up or enjoy a trail lunch.
