Imagine a place where you could fi nd the newest products, have expert advice at your fi ngertips and be limited only by your creativity.

It exists -- and it’s not the Internet. It’s a consumer show.

“Consumer shows are actually get-ting stronger across the country,” said Stuart Galloway, president of 20/20 Show Productions Inc., which is orga-nizing the Windsor Fall Home and Lei-sure Show set for Oct. 2-4.

“People still want that interaction with human beings and they want to touch and feel and compare actual prod-ucts on site and they can do that at the shows.”

Robert and Ellen King, who attend a couple of shows a year, agree.

“We attend shows to keep informed and current with new products released, dealers or distributors and related con-tact information,” said Robert.

That can be a big help down the road, noted his wife.

“Shows are always interesting with great insight to our project, current and future, and [they] surely mini-mize making wrong choices,” said Ellen.

Galloway began organizing shows in 1991 after a stint in publishing. His company is now one of the largest in-dependent producers in Canada and has staged events in Montreal, Toronto, Edmonton and Vancouver and currently produces multiple consumer shows in Wind-sor, Chatham and Kingston.

The longtime Windsor-area resident highlights local

businesses in his shows, which he says helps boost the region’s economy.

The Windsor show will span more than 100,000 square feet in the former RONA outlet on Lauzon Parkway and feature about 150 exhibitors.

Lindsay Belanger, president of Tilbury Auto Sales, said more than 15,000 people showed up at the last Windsor show held at the RONA site in March.

“You’re seeing a wide range of people that may have never seen our product before,” said Be-langer, who has been at the shows for four years. His company is one of the biggest exhibitors, showcasing its wide selection of boats, recreational vehi-cles, powersports and other products.

Landscape Effects Group owner Paul St. Pierre said, “The exposure is amaz-ing.”

“No other means of advertising truly allows you to display your true capabili-ties. Creativity, being our foremost ele-ment, really allows us to show how we separate ourselves from others in the industry.”

Winterizing, getting the home ready for the holidays and snagging some end-of-season deals, is only one facet of the Windsor Fall show. It’s also a pos-

sible window on the future.“We’re prompting people to make that decision for

next year,” said Belanger. “There’s been lots of sun, there’s high waters, and people keep driving past the lakes and either they want a boat or they have an old one they want to exchange.”

St. Pierre, who has been attending shows for more than 15 years, said his company always encourages cli-ents to plan ahead and the show fi ts perfectly with that philosophy.

“This show is exactly that – planning for 2016,” he

said.“We are not in the show to fi ll work and our pipeline

for this fall. We are looking for clients who are looking into next year or further. Our design process is what we are truly selling.”

Asked if consumers come looking for the latest trends, St. Pierre suggested that’s wide open.

“Anything different,” he replied when asked to say what’s hot. “That is the key. If you have something that is unique, this is the place to expose it.”

Consumers do come armed with plenty of questions and Belanger said his staff is ready to answer the queries from attendees, which span a variety of age groups.

“With our background in the automotive, RV and powersport industry, we’re able to evaluate the client and defi ne what their needs are and their wants and put them in the best package,” he said. “Say somebody wants an RV, a tow behind. They may also need a vehi-cle to tow it. We can also accommodate them on that.”

Galloway is well aware of the buzz around Internet shopping but he says that “fears it would change the face of the show industry haven’t materialized.”

He’s got a pretty straightforward recipe for putting on a successful show for consumers.

“We just want to make it easy for attendees to come out, fi nd what they’re looking for and take advantage of the great show pricing, talk to the exhibitors in the show, enjoy the new products, new services -- every-thing new and current, that’s available in the home im-provement and leisure areas.”
