'1he following_ report highlights the operating experience of Wolf Creek..

Geerating Station for the nonth of May,1990. 'lhis report is being* provided pursuant to Technical Wification 6.9.1.8. .

? I. SCH ERY OP OPERATING EXPERIENCE

'1he unit cmpleted its fourth refueling outage in May. '1he unit began the i

month in Made 5, Cold Shutdown; entered Mode 4, Ibt Shutdown, on May.7 at1706 hours; entered Mode 3, Hot Standby, on May 9 at 1510 hours; and entered

k: Made 2,1 Startup, on May 13 at 1702 hours. On May 14 at 0230 hours theL reactor became critical and at 1222 hours entered Mode 1, Power Operation.|- h generator was synchronized to the grid for approximately three hours at'

.

|t .1746 hours on May 14 in preparation for a turbine overspeed trip test.s

Following the test a reactor trip occurred at 2137 hours due to low level inSteam Generator "C" caused by lower than nomal feedwater tannaratures, hunit as restarted frcan Mode 3 and synchronized to the grid at 0017 hours on

,' May 16. '1his marked the end of the refueling outage which lasted 67 days, ;

| 23 hours, and 50 minutes,

j _On May 17 at 1725 hours with the unit at 92% power, a leak was discovered on., the seal water return line for Main Feedwater Purnp "A". A power reductionI was initiated and the unit entered Mode 2 at 2152 hours. At 2305 hours a

reactor trip occurred due to low level in Steam Generator "C" caused by itsaLu g m.ic relief valve failing open. h leaking seal water return lineand aba peric relief valve were repaired and the unit was restarted andsynchronized to the grid at 1920 hours on May 18.

On May 19 at 2353 hours, with the unit at 98% power, a high level inMoisture Separator Drain Tank "A" caused a turbine trip which then caused areactor trip. h high drain tank level was caused by a failed check valveon a line that controls tank level, h valve was repaired and the unit wasrestarted and synchronized to the grid at 0025 hours on May 21. '1he unit-reached 100% power at 1830 hours on May 22 and renained at or near 100%power for the remainder of the nonth.

II. MAKR SAFEI"I REIATED MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES

1. "A" Train Essential Service Water flow halance.

2. Containment hydrogen analyzer nodification to improve reliability.

3. Main Steam Isolation Valve testing.
