The Official Newsletter of the FAU Owl Club VOL.1 NO.2

FAU’s Fighting Owls’ footballteam, one of the newest inthe country, spent its firsttwo seasons sending a squadof freshmen and sophomoresto face older, moreexperienced players. TheOwls’ learning curve hasbeen highlighted by manyfirsts: first home game, firstroad game, first Division IAopponent, first victoryagainst a ranked opponent.

When the team kicks off itsthird season this August, onthe field will be JUNIORS!These upper classmen havealready begun to teach theyounger players new skills.Spring drills havetransformed from pick-upgames to actual drills, organized and orchestratedby veteran team members.

An important transition wasmade in the 2003 recruitingclass. In the previous threeclasses, the coaching staff

recruited and signed the bestathletes possible, with littleregard to position. The 2003class is the first to addressvoids or direct needs. Fiveoffensive linemen, a transferquarterback, a transfer widereceiver and a freshmanrunning back are among thoseselected in this year’s class (see related story page 4).
