Firstly let me take the pleasure of wishing everyone a very happy and prosperous New Year!

A nation is about its citizens. And a citizen is a common man. If at all a leader comes right from the middle of common men, probably a nation then flourishes like never before. And truly one such thing happened in the recent past. I never thought India sees a new dawn, this early in politics. Every common man in India is now looking at that change with a hope that the new dawn will one day bring a great change its life and future. Probably it brings a great change in their standard of living.

Even now every Indian is in confusion whether the things which are happening in our capital are true? For me it seems like a dream come true. Most of the times we feel that a honest politician or a leader is just in movies. But today a real hero came in to politics to redefine politics. Yes, he is Mr.Aravind Kejriwal. 2013 is such a great year which gave birth to a new era of politics, a new era of political affairs. In fact we don’t even have any references in our history to estimate the strength of Aam Admi Party before Delhi assembly elections. But now every citizen is sure about what he wants, whom he wants. So let’s wait till the coming elections. Let’s see what change it brings and what reforms it shows in Indian politics. 2014 elec-tions are going to be a lifetime tough examination for every traditional politician in India. Let’s hope for the best.

Apart from this, Telugites favorite festival is just around. The fes-tival that still keeps out culture and tradition live, Sankranti, is fast approaching. This Sanktanti, I wish all our farmers should have great reaps all the year and keep our nation a green granary. This issue brings you exciting interviews, new lifestyle tips, and interesting stories. So enjoy reading and keep show-ering your love and blessings.Happy reading!

Festive season is around and a call for party might come anytime! Many-a-times you wouldn’t have enough time for a parlour touch up. You might have to rush to the party directly from your office space. It is always hard to work a whole day and then go straight to a party. Even if you start the day looking fabulous by 6 pm you are wrinkled, your hair is struggling and you are just less chipper in general. Here comes EyeBlink with easy styling tips that make you look drab to fab in few minutes.

Add glam with minimal makeup: Firstly, coming to makeup! Do not smudge yourself with many cosmetics. Take your office look from sensible to sassy with minimal makeup. Brighten your eyes by adding little concealer which is a shade lighter than your foundation. This lightens and hides your dark circles. Thus disguise tired eyes after a long day at work. Then add a touch of glamour to your look by curling your lashes. This opens up your eyes and makes them look livelier and ore awake. Then give your face a touch up by using blotting paper or a tissue paper to remove excess oil rather than piling on too much powder. Thick and black eye brows make you look more charming. Tidy up your brows by lightly filling in with a brow pencil. Later dab a bit of moisturizer to keep unruly brows in place. A sweep of bold lipstick is one of the easiest ways to transform your look in seconds. Apply your favorite lipstick and then dab a pinch of lip gloss. Then manage your hair, by applying a bit of serum and combing it smooth and let it loose.

Add style to your office wear:Transform your office wear into the perfect party outfit with these small tips. If at all you feel that your dress might not suit the party, get in to a sparkly blazer or jacket. Jackets are a blessing in disguise. A smart & elegant/casual top with smart trousers (change into denims for evening!); this out-fit would be acceptable at any restaurant/evening party. A pair of high heels will make you look chic. Accessorize with a cute bracelet or a trendy watch. Grab attention by having a pair chandeliers or cute danglers. Ac-cessories are a great way to go bolder with your look without being inappropri-ate. Plus, they tend to be a conversation starter, which is always a good thing. A stylish clutch which you can keep handy in your office drawer always can make you trendier.

Wooooaa… its party time! Get ready with these simple tips and be a head turner at the party. Now… from office to party, it’s easy!

The multi-faceted: Farhan AkhtarHe is multi faceted. He is dynamic, young, and talented. Master of multiple vocations! From music to acting to direction, he does justice to his roles. He brought subtlety and class into mainstream movies and said no to the drama-baji of Bollywood cinemas. With his path-breaking venture for the lucidity of the script, he constantly strives to push the envelope - behind and in front of the camera. With his recent hit flick, Bhaag Milka Bhaag, he proved his caliber again. He is none other than the most versatile, Farhan Akhtar. He talks to EyeBlink, sharing his view and thoughts of cinemas. What do you like most – acting or directing?Firstly I enjoy whatever I do. However I love acting and working with people. I truly enjoy the acting experience. And luckily I’m getting wonderful opportunities to act with amazing talents. I always look forward and indeed I’m now looking forward to my next film as an actor. And my next movie as an actor would be with Dev Benegal. So are you pairing up with Kareena in this movie?

Yes. She will be my co-star in the forthcoming movie. We will start shooting together after my next movie release. So how about your role in Dev’s movie? It’s going to be definitely special. In some kind of way, I am automatically drawn to roles that take me to the other end of the spectrum.

Tell us about your forthcoming movie ‘Shaadi ki side effects’?It is an out and out hilarious movie. It’s a full-on mood movie. When I read the script, I found it genuinely very funny. And at the same time it is maturely written.

You are in all the two films that Zoya has directed so far and now a third? Yeah, and why not? I am happily a constant in her films. And besides she works with other actors too, doesn't she?

And in every movie, you have a different co-star. Is it conscious selection?(laughs) Oh..no! It’s just coincidental. But really it’s been

a different co-star every time. I've made no conscious effort to pick different co-stars each time. But that's a good occurrence. Every time you work with a new co-star a whole new dynamic emerges.

And you are going to act in Zoya’s next film. You were part of her earlier two movies too!Yes, I’m happy to be a constant in her films. However she works with other stars too.

Zoya's film is about a brother and a sister? Is it based on your relationship with her?No no. That confusion has prevailed for a while now. So let me take this opportunity to very clearly state that Zoya's film has nothing to do with our real life relationship. It is entirely a work of fiction.

Are you doing any other films as an actor? Yes, one film in production of Vidhu Vinod which will be directed by Bejoy Nambiar. Vidhu is scripting the film.

Come to think of it so many films of yours have been trendsetters?Only if you want to call them that! To me Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is definitely a landmark. It has taught me so much. Recently when I went for my daughter's sports day. All the little students there in school, even the shy little 6-7 year olds were hiding behind each other and calling out 'Milkha' to me. That felt wonderful.

What has been your lowest point till now?I had a serious clash with my mom once. And that was the most disturbing and lowest point in my life. I had put my mom under a lot of stress. When it finally hit me that my idleness was taking a toll on her, I was genuinely sad and depressed.

Will you return to direction soon?Yes, but I will take a couple of years before I get down to scripting. Right now I’m focused on my acting projects.

stream movies.”

Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt opened its doors quietly on December 1st, 2013 without much ado. The founders, Three brothers, Ravi, Phani and Chaitanya in their defense refer to the location, road no. 36, and suggest that its visibility makes up for it. Since opening its doors the store has seen a significant increase in footfall and has been a hit with its “guests”.

With more than a 100 flavors and 30 different toppings and the fact that they do not carry a menu makes the place very unique. We interviewed them at the store and here are the excerpts from the interview:

No menu?We carry 10 flavors and 30 toppings at any given point and guests can taste any of the flavors and then create their own unique mix andwe charge by weight. For us a cup is an exten-sion of the guest. We want guests to experience something unique and try new flavors every time they come in like Lemon Yogurt which was a hit when we had it here.

Tell us about Menchie’s ExperienceThe Menchie’s experience is more about the connections, memo-ries and celebrations made within our stores than the yogurt we serve. The dream is to mould the store into a place where people from all walks of life and ages can enjoy themselves not only from great tasting, quality frozen yogurt, but from a unique experience in a fun and happy environment that makes every guest “smile”. We make sure we pay attention to detail. For us operating the store comes with one motto, “treat the customers like we would like to be treated”. To keep that vision intact we are slow on hiring people and try and make sure all our employ-ees embody the principles.

How did Menchie’s happen? The eldest brother stumbled upon Menchie’s during a late night food run in Akron, OH and since then it has been a regular hangout spot. “ When we visited him in the summer, we realized

A REVOLUTION IS LURKING

we loved going to place as family and realized we needed to have one of our own so we could spread the happiness among our extended family and friends and that’s when the whole pro-cess started”, says Ravi.

Why Hyderabad?Menchie’s has one store in Delhi and we had the option to choose between Hyderabad and Bangalore. As true Hydera-badi’s, we wanted to make sure Hyderabad got the store first.

How was the first month? To sum up the first month, we’d say “overwhelming”. The re-sponse has been tremendous and the fact that we have run out of product 2 times is a positive sign. Most of the guests that come in have been referred to the place by their friends who have been here before and that’s a positive sign.

How healthy is it?A regular cup of Froyo has around 220 calories and 0-5gms of fat depending on the flavor you choose.

Where else you are planning for new stores? We are headed to Bangalore very soon but we are simultane-ously looking at opening more stores in Secunderabad, Hi-Tech City and Kukatpally. We want to spread the smile to a lot more guests.

Infectious Smile: Shahid Kapoor

Page 27: EYEBLINK MAGAZINE JANUARY-2014

He is simple yet hot. He tasted bitterness yet he oozes confidence. He is charming, adorable and extremely sensible. He is the most lovable Shahid Kapoor. With his recent hit flick ‘Phata Poster, Nikhala Hero’, Shahid is very optimistic about his future. He is an actor who has cohesive and strong sense of self. Though many of his past releases did not work in his favour, he never lost confidence. It’s indeed a nightmare situation to any actor, but Shahid dealt it with great ease. He has emerged with doubled coolness. Shahid gets candid with EyeBlink and speaks his heart out.

Tell us about your interest for movies?Ten years back, I used to stand under the hoardings in Juhu, and wonder if my hoardings would come at the same place in future. I’d give auditions wondering if I’d ever get a chance. And now, after 10 big years, I have done 20 films, with some of the best and exceptional filmmakers in the industry.

How far do you think you were successful?Yeah, I’ve done some crappy movies too. But I am fortunate enough to still be getting good offers. Even today, I can do a solo-hero film. But who hasn’t had flops? Every actor in his career has. But I’m still happy that people expect me to do better.

What is your strength? My positivity is my strength. I always believe in the statement, ‘Only you can help yourself.’ I’m a practical person and I see things in the right context. After the bad hours, you just have to snap out of it and move on. There are more important things in life. You can’t make negativity a permanent state of mind.

How do you feel when any of your movies doesn’t do well? The first thing I want to do when one of my films doesn’t do well is to go on to the sets the very next day and work to prove myself.

Now you are back in race, how do you feel?Definitely, it feels good. Life teaches us many things

putting us to various situations. And in PPNH, the role I played gave me lots of content.

How did you connect to the role in the movie? It was more like an experiment for me. I had never done anything like this before. But I enjoyed doing it. If you want to grow, evolve and experiment, you have to do these things.

Great, coming to fashion, what is your definition for style?Style is an expression. It is expressing your own personality. It’s all about being comfortable in what you wear, where you live, what you use. It is just a reflection of the inner you. Only then your style becomes original. And originality definitely stands out.

What is the styling essential you cannot live without? My hair product.

How do you stay in style with your clothes? My wardrobe has clothes that look fab at any casual event. If it is an award function, my designer Kunal puts my clothes together. He knows what to put on me very well.

Where do you shop to keep in style?London, Berlin, Milan, and Spain are my favorite destinations for shopping. In India I love to chill out at Goa, Mumbai, Bengaluru.

What do you love most, shoes or watches?I love shoes. And for watches, I love big chunky watches.

What is fashion statement?Stay unexpected. That is the best fashion statement.

Coming to your personal life, what is your equation with Priyanka?(laughs) We are friends. We have always been friends.

gemology to understand more about gems and gem-studded jewellery.

Branding for Chandana is still a stepping stone for many new textile companies. How did that branding thought come?We believe in branding. Special place for special kids:Here special kids get special care. Here challenged kids don’t feel they are challenged. They get to do any-thing that a normal child can do. It is all possible only with the help of those people who are sparked by passion to create a better world for children with special needs. And that one place which is a paradise for special children is Shankar Foundation.

Shankar foundation began the ser-vices with 4 children who are unable to cope up in the main stream. With Shraddha (reverence) and Saaburi (perseverance) the committee have strived hard to strengthen the weak ar-eas of students with special needs and finally created a Sannidhi(nearness) towards the mainstream. Working alongside a highly expertise professionals, endeavor to meet the individual needs of all students and helped them to unfold their potential. The organization gradually grew in size as more parents rec-ognized the sincere efforts of the team. Today Shraddha, Saaburi and Sannidhi organizations are an answer for more than 200 parent’s questions about their children future from the ages of four to thirty with a range of special needs.

The key person behind this great project is Mrs. Sridevi. She has been working in the special needs field for more than 25 years. She started work-ing as untrained teacher with psychol-ogy degree, and she upgraded herself with various courses for understanding their needs in depth. After working so closely with the children of all catego-ries of special needs especially intel-lectually challenged, she used to feel that there is a need to expand their learning horizons especially their aca-demic strengths. When she expressed this thought of hers, people in the field used to argue with her. Their point is that they can train these kids to be

independent in daily living skills but not an achievers academical-ly as their IQ levels are low. Her heart always disagreed to that and that disagreement is one of the strongest reasons to establish Shraddha Center for Special Edu-cation under Shankar Foundation which is her family foundation.

When she is asked about her plan to prove that these spe-cial children can be trained in academics, she says, “I want to prove that these children can read and write and can be main-streamed. To prove this, I need to do lot of research to find out the

best teach-ing practices which costs quite a big money in making flash-cards, game cards, charts many more things. I do not want to do this under somebody.

So, I have taken the step forward myself. It took almost 8 years to come to final stage of curriculum which helped our students to read and write like any other normal child. To make money there are quite number of ways but I don’t think dealing with spe-cial children should be one among them. Our hearts and souls are involved here in this project not just the brains.”

Talking about the hurdles, Mrs. Sridevi says, “Even after 11 years since inception, we have obstacles and hurdles. But we learned to jump over

“Their smiles are pure, innocent

and so lovely.”

Page 43: EYEBLINK MAGAZINE JANUARY-2014

them. We learned to cross them with team effort. All the people linked with the proj-ect i.e. our team, staff, parents – everyone strive together to bring goodness to our children. Whatever are the hurdles, we are ready to face them boldly.”

Visiting the school is truly a special mo-ment. It is surrounded by pure souls and the surrounds emit lot of positive energy. One feels blessed being with the children here. Their smiles are pure, innocent and so lovely. They emit true radiance which seems more valuable than a solitaire.

Shankara Foundation works in divisions called Shraddha, Saaburi, Samardh, San-nidhi, Sumeeth, and Samaikya. Shankar Foundation is recognized by A.P Societies Registration Act, Persons with Disability Act, Rehabilitation Council of India and National Trust. Presently, there are 325 children with different needs are serv-ing by 101 staff members in four service models of the foundation.

Shraddha center for special education established with the belief of “every child

can learn”. Saaburi clinic for special needs aims at enhancing the overall development of the children to include them in mainstream schools at early age. Samardh center for vocational training aims at creating an infrastructure, which ensures a smooth graduation from school to the outside world. Sannidhi center for life skills provides residential program for adults and adolescents with special needs. Sumeeth center for special education is a collaborative school with govt. of Bihar at Patna. Samaikya Human Resource Development provides training programs, workshops, and orientation sessions for parents, regular teachers and special teachers on various aspects regarding special needs.

The independent living based academic curriculum developed by Mrs. Sridevi, General Secretary of Shankar Founda-tion, enabled the children to acquire needed reading, writing and calculating skills while preparing them to appear for National Open School Secondary Course. The young children here with variety of special needs undergo careful

assessments, interventions by the multi disciplinary team consists of Clinical Psychologist, Counselor, Special educator, Speech therapist, Occupational therapist and Physiotherapists.

Shankar Foundations also aims to ensure training and placements of the young adults in various vocations and organizations. This can either be done independently in the residential center or by associating with various sheltered workshops and training institutions. It equips the challenged learners with all the skills that make for a life of least depen-dence on others and inculcate a feeling of self-sufficiency and self worth. The students are trained to become fully independent in all spheres of life. The team of Samaikya helps the regular teachers in enhancing the possibilities of inclusion.

To handle such great project, the key supporter needs lots of support and encouragement from her family. Talking about the support she has from her family, Mrs. Sridevi says, “My family is of great support to me. They understood my pas-sion and are always right behind me in my every step. My husband, Prasad, is chartered accountant by profession but never allowed me apply for 80G which is tax concession one. He said you do your work and leave the rest to me. I left him with all the financial burdens. My elder daughter is pursuing her Psychiatry and younger one is into chartered accountan-cy. They too understood my passion and give me their support whenever needed.”

Talking about the journey so face, Sridevi says, “Yes, we came a long way but not too long. Within the short time we got opportunities to serve in many areas. We have four units by name Shraddha, Saaburi, Samardh and Sannidhi render-ing required services. But still I don’t feel content at the end of the day. There are some failures in my journey. We are not able to include our children in mainstream as we thought of. The younger kids should go to regular schools and elder ones should get jobs in society.this requires tre-mendous effort and lot of fight is required. I do not think I am successful yet, I am just traveling.”

Shankar Foundation shares the pressure of special needs with pleasure. We wish Shankar Foundation helps lot more special children and help them in succeeding in their lives.

The Charminar is as much the signature of Hyderabad as the Taj Mahal is of Agra or the Eiffel Tower is of Paris. Mohammed Quli Qutb Shah, the founder of Hyderabad, built Charminar in 1591 at the centre of the original city layout. It is said to be built as a charm to ward off a deadly epidemic raging at that time. Four graceful minarets soar to a height of 48.7 m above the ground. Charminar has 45 prayer spaces and a mosque in it. Visitors can view the architectural splendour inside the Charminar. The monument is illuminated in the evenings and a pedestrianisation project around the monument is under implementation.

The origins of the fort can be traced back to the Yadava dynasty of Deogiri and the Kakatiyas of Warangal. Golconda was originally a mud fort, which passed to the Bahmani dynasty and later to the Qutb Shahis, who held it from 1518 to 1687 A.D. The first three Qutb Shahi kings rebuilt Golconda, over a span of 62 years. The fort is famous for its acoustics, palaces, ingenious water supply system and the famous Fateh Rahben gun, one of the cannons used in the last siege of Golconda by Aurangzeb, to whom the fort ultimately fell.
