EVALUATION:What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

FEEDBACK FROM THE AUDIENCETo allow us to gain some feedback on the outcome of our final music video we asked students within our class to watch our video and write notes during the screening. This would allow us instant feedback and responses from an audience who had never seen the video, thus very useful in judging the overall success of our main product.

The feedback we received helped our group understand the ways in which our video fitted genre and band conventions, which areas of the video they enjoyed and where some improvements could have been made.

POSITIVESThe feedback about what went well and fitted the expected genre conventions by fellow students within our class was:

• The narrative and storyline was clear enough to understand the message of the video. This was well intertwined with the lyrics.

• The black and white filter made the video impactful and enjoyable• The shots were well varied • Lip syncing was well timed to the track during the live performance

CRITICISMSAlongside the positive feedback we also welcomed constructive criticisms about our music video. These were:• Some shots were out of focus- We would allow more time to ensure shots are in focus correctly.

• Many of the shots were repeated- We would film a substantially larger amount of shots to avoid any repetition

• Acting during the live performance was ‘flat’ and not very energetic-We would attempt to find actors who were more suited and comfortable in the role

WHAT HAVE WE GAINED FROM THIS FEEDBACK?

The feedback we have received was both relieving and helpful as it told us that we had created a quality video but also enabled us to understand where we would make improvements if we were to change the video from the audience’s point of view.

If I had the opportunity to produce the video once more I would check the actors are suitable for their roles and are happy with what they are supposed to be doing, ensure all shots are well-focused and steady. I would also record a larger number of shots to ensure we had extra footage to use rather than duplicating shots that had already been shown.

YOUTUBE COMMENTSWe uploaded our music video to YouTube for a number of reasons:1. To allow us to embed the video on our blogs2. To gain a larger viewership than just our class3. YouTube comments can be very helpful feedback

YouTube is highly populated by A2 Music Videos so we decided to title our video with the keywords ‘A2 Music Video’ in an effort to increase viewership and the potential feedback we could gain. We have received multiple comments which are very useful in judging the success of the video as they could be from any member of the public rather than a class member, thus unbiased.

YOUTUBE COMMENTS

YOUTUBE COMMENTSWe received multiple comments below our music video after around 3 days on the site which was good to see as the comments were not only positive about the video but well-detailed and included some small constructive criticism which I can take into account if I were to produce the video again.

In all, I feel that our audience feedback has been a huge help in understanding the success of our main product within the promotional package, whilst also gaining some worthwhile constructive feedback that could possibly help in future projects.
