Analysing a mixmag article

Fonts

• The headline font “Hard Times?” is very large and bold. One word is white and the other is yellow to contrast each other and make it stand out. This also gives the reader an idea on what the article is about. The font is the same one which is on the front of the magazine, this creates consistency through the magazine that the audience will be able to identify and associate it with the magazine brand image. The main article is written in a small white font to make it stand out from the pink and purple background

Background

• The background consists of a collage of different photographs which are of people dancing and raving which reinforces what the magazine is about. There are colourful filters over the people in the background which links to the pink and purple colour scheme for the background. The people look like they are having fun which makes the reader want to read about it.

Main image

• This is an unconventional main image as it doesn't have professional lighting and the outline is poorly cut out but mixmag does this to emphasize the collage effect. The man in the yellow shirt stands out from all the other images as he is the biggest image and he docent have a filter over him. His facial expression shows he's having a good time but he could be also having a hard time which would link to the headline.

Colour scheme

• Mixmag in general has very bright and bold colour schemes. By using these colours it attracts mixmags target audience of young adults. the colour also keeps the reader interested in the magazine because if they used simple boring colours every page would feel the same and the reader would not enjoy the magazine. The magazine uses complimentary colours but also has some contrasting colours, this suits the style and genre of the music. the pink and purple over the images gives it a fun, party vibe.
