Beginning with the backing plate and Encapsulated Mechanical Retention System (EMRS), A-Line exceeds OE specifications for shear strength and backing plate integrity. A Q235b grade steel backing plate is used to withstand 30,000 psi of yield strength, and is then fortified with A-Line’s StrataBond® shear strength reinforcement.

Different Loads Require Different Formulations

Not all heavy duty vehicles, loads or drivers are the same. So A-Line created different frictions to meet your needs. We started with High Torque Fibers (HTFs) and added Modified Crosslinking Resins (MXRs) to resist extreme heat. That means A-Line pads can continue to deliver higher torque when you need it.

Burnishing Strips Perfect Brake Geometry

Noise and vibration are some of the leading causes of premature pad replacement.

A-Line brake pads are positive molded and finished with microabrasive burnishing strips to seat the pad to the rotor. This creates a perfected brake geometry that reduces noise and vibration, extending your brake life.

Stratabond® Retention For 300% More Shear Strength

A-Line’s StrataBond® system increases shear strength and reduces brake noise using this four-part component strategy.

1. StartaBond backing plates use an integrated mechanical retention system that allows friction to fully encapsulate it.

2. A phenolic resin-based thermal-set adhesive is applied to the backing plate to bond the friction to the retention system.

3. Proprietary high-resin, high fibre friction formulation is applied to create a 3mm stabilizing layer that cross-links the resin polymers in the adhesive and stabilizing layer to increase shear strength.

4. A high torque, low noise formulation is applied as the friction layer. Under pressure the friction resin and fibres form a cohesive bond to the stabilizing layer.

Due to the severe conditions of air disc braking, hardware must be changed with every set of pads. Inferior hardware will compromise the life of your pads, rotors and even your caliper.

A-Line hardware kits are designed to meet or exceed OE specifications for tensile strength, thermal resistance and torque. Every A-Line pad set includes a premium OE-grade hardware kit.

Over-the-road applications need long wearing brake pads that can withstand high heat. KZ2 is formulated with Kevlar® fibre that is known for its ability to withstand extreme pressure. Independent laboratory testing shows that KZ2 pads last 33% longer than competing pads.

These are ideal for 20K to 23K appli-cations, including tractor, trailer and school bus.

Severe duty applications like refuse, cement haulers and motor coaches, need formulations that can withstand extreme torque and temperatures. KZ3 is formulated with High Thermal Fibers (HTFs) and Modified Crosslink-ing Resins (MXRs) so they can endure the rigors of severe duty. Independent laboratory testing shows that KZ3 pads last longer than competing pads, while running cooler and withstanding up to 300% more shear force.

These are ideal for 23K severe duty applications, including tractor, trailer, refuse, cement haul and motor coach.

When severe duty meets stop and go and downhill applications, or when your GAWR is 26,000 lbs, you need A-Line’s KZ6.

This 26K rated friction withstands higher temperatures and torque loads than 23K frictions. KZ6 builds on the use of MXR’s to last up to 40% longer than competing 26K frictions.

These are ideal for 26K severe duty applications, including tractor trailer heavy haul, refuse, cement haul, motor coach, and transit.

A-Line KZ2: Low Noise OTR Heavy Duty

A-Line KZ6: Rough Terrain Severe Duty, TRANSIT

Special high resin, high fiber Fric-tion Stabi-lizer Layer is engineered to bond with the adhesive.

Phenolic resin-based thermal-set ad-hesive bonds the Retention System to the Friction Stabilizer Layer.

Half holes allow friction to sur-round mesh and improve stability.

Wire mesh pro-vides increased surface area for shear resistance.

Encapsulated Mechanical Retention System provides anti-shear stability.

Low-noise, high-torque formulation weaves into Friction Stabi-lizing Layer.

STRATABOND® FOR SUPERIOR SHEAR STRENGTH

A-Line pads are built with a proprietary StrataBond®

shear strength technology.

The secret to improved shear strength lies with stratified layers of encapsulated mechanical retention systems (EMRS), phenolic resin-based adhesive, a 3mm deep high-resin stabilizing layer, topped with a high-torque, low noise friction layer.

This improves shear strength up to 300% for high torque applications.

KZ2 uses the hook-based EMRS pictured above, while KZ3 and KZ6 use the half-hole and mesh-based EMRS as pictured below.

BRAKE EFFECTIVENESS

A-Line KZ Series Air Disc PadsFormulated to Exceed OE Specifications

KZ Series Air Disc Pads Provide Safer Braking

A-Line’s KZ air disc pads have been formulated for consistent brake effective-ness (BE) as shown in the graph to the right.

A-Line strives to achieve a BE rating that is well above Federal standards, while not over-torquing the friction.

KZ Series Ideal for Reduced Stop Distance FMVSS dynamometer tests show that A-Line air disc pads have a predictive stop distance as low as 186.5 ft.

All KZ series frictions are precisely engineered to produce shorter stop distances without sacrificing pad integrity.

Reduced Line Pressure for Increased Brake SafetyA-Line’s formulations yield consistently low line pressures. This is ideal for stop-and-go, downhill or severe duty applications.

Reduced Rotor and Pad Wear KZ series pads demonstrate significantly less rotor and pad wear. Rotor wear is reduced up to 68%, while pad wear is up to 33% less than industry average.

Lower Wheel End TemperaturesFMVSS testing shows that A-Line’s engineered formulations yield cooler running wheel ends. Rotor temperatures are more than 150° F cooler than industry average. And cooler rotors mean longer rotor life.

The A-Line KZ series of air disc pads are engineered with a proprietary blend of Kevlar® and MPR’s to provide longer pad and rotor life.

Our pads are engineered for applications ranging from on-highway to severe duty, to motor coach and transit.

Every pad is built with a Q235 steel backing plate and a StrataBond® encapsulated mechanical retention system (EMRS) to increase shear strength.

For noise reduction, all A-Line KZ series pads are finished with burnishing strips to improve brake geometry while cutting noise, vibration and harshness.
