    MEETING DOCUMENTATION:

When an emergency happens on the jobsite, its importantfor everyone to know how to keep safe, how to respond, andwhere to get help. Planning ahead is the key to success.

An Emergency Action Plan (EAP) is a written documentrequired by OSHA. It should be developed at the beginningof each new project. The plan should contain proceduresfor emergencies that could reasonably occur, like a fire, tornado, explosion, etc., and it should describe howeveryone involved should respond in each situation. Theplan will also assign specific responsibilities to key people.

The point of an EAP is to have a plan in place before anemergency happens. Having a plan should mean lesspanic, quicker results, fewer people injured or killed, andless property damage. Your Emergency Action Plan shouldinclude the following items:

Evacuation procedures and emergencyescape routes. The EAP should outline who isauthorized to order an evacuation, under whatconditions an evacuation would be necessary, how to evacuate, and what routes to take. TheEAP may describe conditions under which itssafer to shelter-in-place, and where you shouldgo. The EAP may direct you to take certainactions before you evacuate or while you leave, such as shutting windows, closing doors, andturning off equipment. You should find plans tohelp visitors, people with disabilities, and people who dont speak English.

Means of reporting. Depending on your plan, you may report an emergency by dialing 911,calling an internal number, pulling a manual firealarm, or by other specific means.

Procedures for any workers who stay behindto perform critical operations before theyevacuate. If it is safe to do so, some employeesmay need to stay behind to shut down processes, systems, or equipment that may cause additionaldamage or put first responders in more danger.

A way to account for all employees after anemergency evacuation. The plan may designate someone to make sure everyone gotout safely. He or she might make a final sweepof the area, looking in bathrooms, closets, etc.Alternatively, the plan could specify a roll call or checklist at the rally point to make sureeveryone is accounted for.

Rescue and medical duties for employees. Tellyour supervisor if youre trained in first aid, confined space rescue, firefighting, etc.

Contact information for additional help orresources. This list could include the companyowner, other contractors, local utility companies, weather information, rescue services, etc.

    SUPERVISOR/TRAINER NOTES:

    AnswerKey

  • These instructions do not supersede local, state, or federal regulations.
