PROBLEM
India has made advances in primary school enrollment however regardless of an initially high rate of enrollment, drop-out rates are very high. In India today, 4% of all children never start school, 58% don’t complete primary schools, 90% don’t complete secondary school, and only 10% of children go on to college.
Jyoti Social has various educational awareness programs running across India under the umbrella of Educate India Initiative. Educate India has been entrusted as a mission to lower the illiteracy rate, increase health standards through educational awareness programs, encouraging and supporting education of masses at the early stage lowering the dropout rates. The phase-I (validation) has been a success with employed individuals from various sectors has been contributing to the programs and sponsorship of the children education. The cost of sponsorship of one child per month is INR 500 which is widely accepted by any working and employed individual.

a) Creating sustainable infrastructure for sponsorship of education for masses.
b) Develop a time tested methodology for mentorship of children under scholarship/sponsorships
c) Collaboration with various stakeholders of the society: Schools, NGO’s, Gov. Bodies and Corporates
d) Increase the conversion to secondary and high school enrollment

METHODOLOGY
1. Collaboration with primary and secondary schools Team has conducted surveys in two cities (Delhi & Hyderabad) and in phase one has collaborated with one primary school (Hyderabad) and one orphanage (Delhi)
a) Educational Seminars: Individuals from corporates volunteer their hours in educational seminars and engagements.
b) Competitions and Health & Hygiene Awareness Program: National Oral Health and Hygiene Awareness Program and summer health and hygiene programs are being conducted across various locations. Various competitions such as essay writing and drawing & painting competitions are being conducted across schools.
c) Interviewing and screening students who require sponsorship:
An initial list is obtained from school administration and mark sheets are record along with the family background of a child. Following which interview is scheduled both with child and parents to estimate the need and understand the capabilities of children.
Scholarship/Sponsorship are based on:
Financial condition of the family (Daily Wage)
Academic performance
Extra-Curricular Talent: Sports, dancing, singing and painting
2. Mentorship Program
Each group of student (2-5) is allocated a mentor who tracks the academic performance and
provides the counselling to children and their parents. Team is also engaging with parents through
school.
A social innovation network is being conceptualized and is at pilot scale implementation where
individuals willing to contribute to the project will be engaged and provided updates about the
developments.

The whole engagement is coordinated via school administration, Jyoti Social team members and volunteers. Preliminarily survey is done to assess and identify the schools which has is providing quality education at minimal cost to underprivileged citizens.
After identification team visits the school to check the viability and interact with the school administration and students. The gathered data is analyzed and team decides to choose schools which is followed by interview process.
Primary Survey: Prior to the indulgence our management and team conducted the primary survey checking the viability of the project. In a period to two months (June-July 2014) we learnt a lot about the lifestyle, habits, educational standards and problems that underprivileged children and their families are facing to educate themselves (of low income class).
Primary survey and reporting was one of the main tool on which the whole project was designed.
