SKATEPARK TYPOLOGIES KEY MAP SITE EVALUATION EDGEMONT EDGEMONT - JOHN LAURIE PARK Primary Comments Overall Network Location Connections to Trails Sidewalks run adjacent to site and throughout entire community. A pedestrian overpass (over John Laurie Blvd) links the site to Dalhousie Community. Access to Public Transportation A couple of Bus Stops surround site Secondary Comments Park Compatibility Site currently consists of nonprogrammed park space that is surrounded by an outdoor rink and storage building, practice soccer pitch, and small playground. Addition of skatepark would appear to fit well with surrounding rec amenities. Safety and Maintenace Excellent separation from nearby roadway (Edgemont Drive). Excellent access for routine maintenance. Limits OffSite Impacts to Residential Communities Nearest residential lies across Edgemont Dr. Site appears to offer no significant impact on immediate residents Site Visibility / Passive Observation Site appears to offer excellent visibility from Edgemont Dr and corresponding sidewalks Complimentary Facilities Greater location includes tennis courts and sports fields in addition to immediately adjacent outdoor rink, practice soccer pitch and playground Ease of Development Site does not appear to pose any major impediments to anticipated skatepark construction program (need to verify underground utilities/ROW's) Achievable Skatepark Size Location appears to be suitable for large neighbourhood level skatepark or smallmid sized community park (need to confirm potential size of development area) Shelter Some mature trees near site… closest shelter may be Edgemont Club.
