...effective recyclables handling generated additional

revenue of £712K

During 2009, ECS handled over 25K tonnes of recyclable materials on behalf of over 270 DHL sites, generating a revenue for the Group of over £712K. Successful growth of this waste management service has led ECS to be able to offer further value to DHL’s customers.

We have significant experience in providing environmental & packaging consultancy to government sponsored organisations such as the Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP), retailers and manufacturers.

This includes packaging benchmarking reports, best in class packaging analysis,

legislative compliance and packaging optimisation reports. ECS also provide data

collation & best practice facilitation for company specific sustainability programmes,

carbon measurement and reduction, guidance in relation to the new Carbon Reduction

Commitment (Energy Efficiency) legislation, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

programmes and report writing services.

Over £1m saved per annum over 24 sites

Developed to help DHL, customer and external sites understand and reduce their energy consumption, the ECS Energy Management Service has been in operation since 2008 and is now saving 24 sites over £1million per annum. The service incorporates a full technical review to provide the site with a comprehensive written proposal outlining the bespoke energy management solutions that may be appropriate. Energy saving initiatives include, but are by no means limited to, lighting replacement schemes, engineering solutions and behavioural change programmes.

160 tonnes of carbon annually

ECS project manages the complete package from initial audit through to implementation

and demonstration of the savings achieved.

A recent installation on a DHL site in Daventry is achieving annual savings of £104k with

an installation cost of £266k, which results in a payback of much less than 3 yrs to recover

all initial costs. On top of the significant financial savings, the installation is also saving in

excess of 160 tonnes of carbon annually.

ECS helps retailers, manufacturers & brand-owners comply with various pieces of Producer Responsibility legislation such as the Packaging Waste Regulations, the Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations, Waste Batteries Regulations. DHL provides competitive efficient compliance services to more than 600 UK business. By way of example, through joining DHL's packaging compliance scheme, ECS have saved Iceland £100K.
