A Note on Our Sermon Series This Lenten sermon series is meant to reflect on all the ways the people in Jesus’ time wanted the Messiah to be very different than who Jesus was. And still today, we oftentimes desire that the central figure of our faith isn't like Jesus. We want a conquering hero arriving with his armies of angels. But instead we find a willing suffering servant. This is what Paul called the foolishness of the cross. But the Bible makes it clear that the Jesus we get is far greater than we could have ever designed. He meets all or greatest needs, from forgiveness, to eternal life, to peace in the midst of trials. Pre-service Prayer Dear Jesus, today I see you riding into Jerusalem, being treated like a king, but like no other king in history. You came humble, to serve me, to die for me. And now risen, you are exalted as the highest of Kings. Remind me you still rule today, and that my future is sure and certain in your care as my king. Amen.

Please stand. Invocation P: The grace of our Lord + Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. C: And also with you. Confession and Absolution P: Father of mercies and God of all consolation, come to the aid of your people, turning us from our sin to live for you alone. Give us the power of your Holy Spirit that we may attend to your Word, confess our sins, receive your forgiveness, and grow into the full-ness of your Son Jesus Christ, our Lord and our Redeemer. C: Amen. P: Let us make confession to God. C: Almighty God, Merciful Father: I, a troubled and penitent sinner, confess to you all my sins and iniquities with which I have offended you and for which I justly deserve your punishment. But I am sorry for them, and repent of them, and pray for your boundless mercy. For the sake of the suffering and death of your Son, Jesus Christ, be gracious and merciful to me, a sinful being; forgive my sins, give me your Holy Spirit for the amendment of my sinful life, and bring me to life everlasting. Amen. P: Almighty God in his mercy has given his Son to die for us and, for his sake, forgives us all our sins. Through his Holy Spirit he cleanses us and gives us power to proclaim the mighty deeds of God who called us out of darkness into the splendor of his light. As a called servant of Christ and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire for-giveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. Prayer of the Day P: We praise you, O God, for the great acts of love by which you have redeemed us through your Son, Jesus Christ. As he was acclaimed by those who scattered their gar-ments and branches of palm in his path, so may we always hail him as our King and fol-low him with perfect confidence; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: Amen. Please be seated.

First Lesson Zechariah 9: 9,10 Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. 10 I will take away the chariots from Ephraim and the war-horses from Jeru-salem, and the battle bow will be broken. He will proclaim peace to the nations. His rule will extend from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth.

Response Psalm 24 (printed on p. 7)

Second Lesson Philippians 2: 5-11 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross! 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Children’s Message Ages 3 thru grade 5 are invited to come forward for a Bible lesson. Hymn of the Day Ride On, Ride On in Majesty (Hymn 133, printed on p. 9)

Sermon Matthew 21: 1-11 As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. 3 If anyone says anything to you, tell him that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.” 4 This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: 5 “Say to the Daughter of Zion, ‘See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’” 6 The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt, placed their cloaks on them, and Jesus sat on them. 8 A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Hosanna in the highest!” 10 When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?” 11 The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”

“Sing praise to Jesus!”

Apostles’ Creed (We join together to give public confession of our faith) I believe in God the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He as-cended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen. Thank Offering “We love because he first loved us.” 1Jn 4:19 God’s love in sending Je-sus to live, to suffer, and to die for each of us motivates the members of Beautiful Savior to show their love and thanks by returning a portion of their income to the Lord. Through these free will offerings, this congregation and its ministries are maintained. *If you would like to give your regular offering envelope, you can mail it to the church. Prayer of the Church and the Lord’s Prayer P: Lord Jesus, you are the King of heaven and earth. We join the first Palm Sunday worshippers in praising and glorifying you for coming to this earth to be our Savior. Though you are one with God the Father and Lord of all, you humbled yourself and became one with us. We thank you for living a life of perfect conformity to God’s holy law in our place. C: We praise you for being obedient to death, even death on a cross, to redeem us from sin. P: Cause our voices to blend with those who sang your praises as you rode into Jerusalem. Move us to confess you before others as our Lord. Help us proclaim the message of peace and forgiveness to people of all nations. Use us to assure all people that your blood has cleansed them from sin and set them free from slavery to sin, death, and the devil. C: Move us to dedicate all we are and have to your glory. P: Lord Jesus, you are King over all the earth. Bless the nations of this world with wise rulers and good government. C: Let peace prevail. P: Grant success to the businesses and industries of our land to serve for the common good. Cause all employers to be honest and fair-minded and all employees to be diligent and faithful. Look with favor on our nation’s schools. C: Be with those who teach and those who learn. P: Comfort the sick and the afflicted with the assurance of your care and protection. C: Strengthen the faith of the dying. P: Hear us, Lord, as we bring you our private petitions. Silent prayer. P: Dear Savior, as we walk with you this week toward Calvary, keep us focused on your purpose for coming into this world and on our calling to spread this wonderful message of salvation. C: Hear us for your mercy’s sake. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into tempta-tion, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory for-ever and ever. Amen. Please be seated.

20th Anniversary Celebration Postponed Due to the corona virus outbreak, our 20th Anniversary celebration is postponed until fur-ther notice. God willing, we are hoping to celebrate this Fall.

Coronavirus Update

Due to the coronavirus we have scaled back the ministries that we are able to offer here at church. There will not be Sunday morning Bible Study or Sunday School or Tuesday evening Bible Study. We are looking into posting self-study Bible Studies in the future. We have cancelled our monthly Lunch Bunch and Retired Women’s Group activities. There will be no Wednesday mid-week Lent services for the rest of the season of Lent. What we will do is continue to offer Sunday Worship services that you can view on Livestream by accessing the church website. Until we can gather together again for Worship, we will bring Worship to you! If you would like to talk to Pastor about any needs or concerns, please give him a call at church at 931-905-1400 or email him at [email protected].

Not receiving our newsletters?

If you have not received our recent newsletters concerning COVID-19 updates and ongo-ing scheduling changes, and would like to, call the church office at 931-905-1400 or email at [email protected].

Online Bible Study

Two Bible Study have now been posted on “The Seven Churches of Revelation.” We are still working at getting it into the right place on the website, but for now you can find it by going to the same place that you access the sermons. Go to our website then click on, “service streaming,” on the blue banner, and then click on “online service streaming.” You will see Sunday’s sermon there as well as the last couple weeks of sermons, but there you will also see the first Bible Study called “Seven Churches 1” and the second is “Seven Churches 2”.
