Welcome-- We are glad you could join us today! It is our hope that this service is a blessing to you. Please join us for worship again soon.

• Please save the last two rows of pews for parents with small children.

• Parents with little ones: If your child becomes restless during the service, that’s okay… We’re glad they’re here, and Jesus is pleased when they are brought to hear his Word: “Let the little children come to me.” If you need to be with your child in the Fellowship Hall, the service can be heard through a speaker.

• Five minutes before the worship service begins the usher will light the candles. This is our sig-nal to quiet down and prepare our hearts for worship. (There are prayers for worship prepara-tion on page 10 in the front part of the hymnal.)

• Restrooms are conveniently located to the left as you exit the sanctuary.

• Everyone is invited to join us in the fellowship hall after worship for coffee, snacks, and con-versation! Please help to keep the chapel clean by leaving all food and drinks in the fellowship hall.

• Please silence your cell phone before the start of the service.

Invocation P: In the name of the Father and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. Confession & Absolution P: God invites us to come into his presence and worship him with humble and penitent hearts. Therefore, let us confess our sins to him and ask him to forgive us. C: Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful, and that I have diso-beyed you in my thoughts, words, and actions. I have done what is evil and failed to do what is good. For this I deserve your punishment both now and in eternity. But I am tru-ly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my Savior, Jesus Christ, I pray: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner. P: God, our heavenly Father, has been merciful to us and has given his only Son to be the atoning sacrifice for all of our sins. Therefore as a called servant of Christ and by his authority, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. Song of Praise How Great Thou Art (Hymn 256, v. 4, printed on p. 3 & 4) Prayer of the Day P: Almighty God and Father, dwelling in majesty and mystery, filling and renewing all cre-ation by your eternal Spirit, and manifesting your saving grace through our Lord Jesus Christ: in mercy cleanse our hearts and lips that, free from doubt and fear, we may ever worship you, one true immortal God, with your Son and the Holy Spirit, living and reign-ing, now and forever. C: Amen. Please be seated.

First Lesson Genesis 1: 1-2:3 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day. 6 And God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water.” 7 So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. 8 God called the expanse “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day. 9 And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. 10 God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good. 11 Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day. 14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. 16 God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day. 20 And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky.” 21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.” 23 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day. 24 And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. 26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the

ground.” 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” 29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so. 31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day. 2-1 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. 2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3 And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done. Gospel Lesson Matthew 28: 16-20 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Children’s Message Ages 3 thru grade 5 are invited to come forward for a Bible lesson.

Sermon 2 Corinthians 13: 11-14 Finally, brothers, good-by. Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. 12 Greet one another with a holy kiss. 13 All the saints send their greetings. 14 May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

“Three words of blessing from our Triune God.”

The Nicene Creed (We join in confession our faith in the words of the Nicene Creed.) We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the vir-gin Mary, and became fully human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate. He suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who in unity with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glori-fied, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy Christian and apos-tolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. Thank Offering “We love because he first loved us.” 1Jn 4:19 God’s love in sending Jesus to live, to suffer, and to die for each of us motivates the members of Beautiful Savior to show their love and thanks by returning a portion of their income to the Lord. Through these free will offer-ings, this congregation and its ministries are maintained.

Rite of Confirmation Those being confirmed present themselves before the altar. P: In obedience to our Lord’s command you have been baptized in the name of the Fa-ther and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. You have been taught the precious truths of the Christian faith as confessed by the Evangelical Lutheran Church. You know what God has given you by His grace and what He expects of you as His dear child. You can now ex-ercise the privilege of partaking of Holy Communion. You are here to make a public pro-fession of your Christian faith. The Apostle Paul writing to the Romans says: “If you con-fess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved … For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” Therefore, lift up your heart to the God of all grace and joyfully answer these questions: P: Do you this day in the presence of God and of this congregation acknowledge that in Baptism, God gave you the forgiveness of sins, life and salvation? Confirmands: I do. P: Do you reject the devil along with all his lies and empty promises. Confirmands: I do. P: Do you believe in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit? Confirmands: I believe in God the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. I be-lieve in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen. P: Do you believe all the books of the Bible to be the inspired Word of God? Confirmands: I do. P: Do you believe that the teachings of this church and the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (our national affiliation of congregations) are faithful and true to God’s Word? Confirmands: I do.

Page 11: eautiful Savior Lutheran hurch 7- 2020...2 Welcome--We are glad you could join us today! It is our hope that this service is a blessing to you. Please join us for worship again soon

11

P: Do you intend to continue steadfast in this teaching and to endure all things, even death, rather than fall away from it? Confirmands: I do, and I ask God to help me. P: Do you intend faithfully to conform your life to the teachings of God’s Word; to be faithful in the use of Word and Sacrament; and in faith and action to remain true to the Triune God as long as you live? Confirmands: I do, and I ask God to help me.

Confirmation Passages and Blessings

Madison Mackdanz John 8: 12, “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever fol-lows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Rebecca Ransom 2 Peter 2: 18, “But grow in the grace and knowledge

of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

THE SACRAMENT P: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you. P: Lift up your hearts. C: We lift them up to the Lord. P: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. C: It is right to give him thanks and praise. P: It is truly good and right that we should at all times and in all places give you thanks, O Lord, holy Father, almighty and everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, and now we confess that you, with your Son and the Holy Spirit, are one God and one Lord, and we acknowledge you as our Creator, Redeemer, and Sanctifier. Therefore, with all the saints on earth and hosts of heaven, we praise your holy name and join their glorious song:

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY (Sanctus Isaiah 6:3; Matthew 21:9) (Sanctus means “holy.” Used possibly as early as the second century, this canticle was in wide use among Christians in worship by the fourteenth century.)

Hosanna in the highest! How truly blest is he Who in God’s name is coming To set his people free! He comes to bring salvation And with his blood outpoured Deliver us from bondage Hosanna Mighty Lord.

O holy, holy, holy Lord God of pow’r and might Your glory, earth and heaven In countless ways recite. Hosanna! Come and save us, Lord God of hosts on high, And in your grace and mercy Receive our fervent cry.

P: Blessed are you, O Lord of heaven and earth. We praise and thank you for sending your Son, Jesus Christ, and we remember the great acts of love through which he has ransomed us from sin, death, and the devil’s power. By his incarnation, he became one with us. By his perfect life, he fulfilled your holy will. By his innocent death, he overcame hell. By his rising from the grave, he opened heaven. Invited by your grace and instructed by your Word, we approach your table with repentant and joyful hearts. Strengthen us through Christ’s body and blood, and preserve us in the true faith until we feast with him and all his ransomed people in glory everlasting. C: Amen. The Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. Words of Institution

P: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night he was betrayed, took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

Then he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” The peace of the Lord be with you always. C: Amen. O Christ, Lamb of God printed on p. 12

Distribution (When we come to the Lord’s Supper, we receive the very body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ for the personal assurance of forgiveness. But the Lord’s Supper is also a confessional act, by which we confess a oneness of faith. We therefore ask only those who are confirmed members of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church or of sister Wisconsin Synod Lutheran churches to approach the altar. If anyone has a question about our communion practice or would like to become a communicant member of Beautiful Savior, please speak with the pastor after the service.)

Closing Prayer P: Hear the prayer of your people, O Lord, that the lips which have praised you here may glorify you in the world, that the eyes which have seen the coming of your Son may long for his coming again, and that all who have received in his true body and blood the pledge of your forgiveness may be restored to live a new and holy life, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: Amen. The Blessing

P: Brothers and sisters, go in peace. Live in harmony with one another. Serve the Lord with gladness.

The Lord bless you and keep you.

The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you.

The Lord look on you with favor and + give you peace.

C: Amen. Closing Hymn Do Not Let Your Hearts Be Troubled (Hymn 759, printed on p. 16 & 17)

Plan for reopening Sunday Worship Our plan is to continue to offer two Sunday services at 9am and 10:30am. We will be better able to practice social distancing with the two service times. Every other pew aisle will be blocked off to better space out everyone. We also are encouraging everyone to follow Department of Health guidelines such as: • Please stay home if you are not feeling well • Please stay home if coughing or sneezing • Service folders will not be reused from service to service • Offering plates will be placed in back and not passed • No food or drinks will be provided • Enhanced cleaning will be done prior to every service We will not be offering Sunday School for adults or children for the time being. Our goal is to get back to one service with Sunday School as is reasonable. Also, we need to be flexi-ble in our approach. If conditions get worse with COVID-19 in our area, then we may need to go back to livestream only. We will continue to livestream the Sunday service every Sunday for those at risk or not comfortable worshipping in public. We look forward to worshipping together again!
