Our Mission

By grace, the mission of

Beautiful Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church is

to proclaim the Word of God so that we may praise his name,

grow together in the knowledge of our Savior,

and share with others his message of forgiveness and eternal life.

Welcome-- We are glad you could join us today! It is our hope that this service is a blessing to you. Please join us for worship again soon.

Please save the last two rows of pews for parents with small children.

Parents with little ones: If your child becomes restless during the service, that’s okay… We’re glad they’re here, and Jesus is pleased when they are brought to hear his Word: “Let the little children come to me.” If you need to be with your child in the Fellowship Hall, the service can be heard through a speaker. We also have Children’s Church during second service following the Children’s message down the preschool hallway.

Five minutes before the worship service begins the usher will light the candles. This is our signal to quiet down and prepare our hearts for worship. (There are prayers for worship preparation on page 10 in the front part of the hymnal.)

Restrooms are conveniently located to the left as you exit the sanctuary.

Everyone is invited to join us in the fellowship hall after worship for coffee, snacks, and conversation! Please help to keep the chapel clean by leaving all food and drinks in the fellowship hall.

Please silence your cell phone before the start of the service.

Sunday School Coordinator

Jennifer Geer is our new Sunday School Coordinator! We thank her for stepping into this role and she is looking to add a few “substitute” Sunday School teachers to teach when our regular Sunday School teachers are unable to teach for a Sunday. Please email her at: [email protected].

Lawn Mowing It’s getting to be that time of year! The grass is growing and we are looking for helpers to cut our church property. If you would like to help, please see the sign-up under the Soldier Support Board. The mower and all needed equipment are supplied. If you have questions, please call Clyde Mansfield at 931-378-2234.

Martin Luther College Congregational Partner Grant Program Martin Luther College (MLC) exists to prepare and support future pastors, teachers and staff ministers in the WELS. MLC partners with congregations to help their members, who are entering MLC to begin their training for full time Gospel ministry. MLC will match any gifts given by the home congregation of a first or second year student, up to $1,000. Beautiful Savior has a member, Nathan Holz, who will be starting his third year this fall and is studying to become a pastor. Beautiful Savior can help with some of the costs of his education. Between our gifts and the matching grant, $2,000 would go towards Nathan’s tuition (the total cost is over $16,000). If you would like to give a gift to help encourage a young man for ministry, you can use your regular offering envelope to do so, by indicating “MLC Grant” on the front of the envelope. You can also put a check in the offering plate with “MLC Grant” on the memo line. We pray God’s blessings on Nathan as he continues his study for the pastoral ministry this fall. If you have any questions about this program, please contact Pastor Holz.

Plan and Grow Update In our goal of raising $15,000 for a vicar request, we currently stand at $5,542. Thank you for all gifts received. If you would like to give a gift, please mark it on your offering envelopes or indicate clearly on your check or place in another marked envelope.

Easter Greeting P: Christ is arisen! C: He is risen indeed. P: This is the day the Lord has made. C: We will rejoice and be glad in it. P: I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the Lord has done. C: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. P: The Lord's right hand was majestic in power. The Lord's right hand shattered the enemy. In the greatness of his majesty he threw down those who opposed him. C: Death has been swallowed up in victory. P: Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? C: Thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. P: I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth. C: Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise! P: The Lamb at the center of the throne will be our shepherd; he will lead us to springs of living water. C: And God will wipe away every tear from our eyes. Opening Hymn Jesus Christ is Risen Today (Hymn 157) Please stand.

Easter Confession and Proclamation P: Today we come to God in worship. God is the Eternal King, the Lord of holiness, the Creator of all. It is his will that we live in purity before him, in love with all people, and in line with his holy Word. But we realize that our words and actions do not live up to his perfect standard. For that reason, this morning we begin our worship in humble confession before God.

C: Lord God, forgive our wandering ways. For all of our sins— the open and obvious, and also the secret and unspoken, we ask for your forgiveness. So often we have ignored your Word and spurned your help. For these and all our sins we ask for your forgiveness. P: God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son— Jesus Christ. By the perfect life and innocent death of our Lord Jesus Christ, you are saved from the curse of sin and completely forgiven. By the resurrection of our Lord Jesus, death has no power over you! C: Thank you, Lord, for your free and undeserved love. Give us joy in your victory, for it is ours as well! Song of Praise He Is Arisen! Glorious Word (Hymn 162) Prayer of the Day P: Almighty God, by the glorious resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ, you conquered death and opened the gate to eternal life. Grant that we, who have been raised with him through baptism, may walk in newness of life and ever rejoice in the hope of sharing his glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit be dominion and praise now and forever. C: Amen. Please be seated.

First Lesson Isaiah 25: 6-9 On this mountain the LORD Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine— the best of meats and the finest of wines. 7 On this mountain he will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations; 8 he will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove the disgrace of his people from all the earth. The LORD has spoken. 9 In that day they will say, “Surely this is our God; we trusted in him, and he saved us. This is the LORD, we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation.” Choir Anthem Jesus Is Risen! Alleluia!

Closing Prayer P: Merciful God, we thank you for once again having spoken to us through your Word. Let your Word be a light to our path, so that neither the attractions nor the worries of this life may be able to turn our thoughts from the life to come. As we now prepare to leave this house of God, let the Holy Spirit accompany us, so that we may be responsive to your voice speaking to our hearts. Give us forgiveness for yesterday, faith for today, and strength for tomorrow. We ask this of you in the name of Jesus, the name above every name. C: Amen. Easter Blessing P: Through the resurrection of Jesus, God has become your Father and has made you his children. May you be filled with joy. C: Amen. P: Through the resurrection of Jesus, God has set you free from sin and death. May you live as people of hope. C: Amen. P: Brought into the resurrected Christ, you too, have been raised to a new life. May you live Spirit-filled lives. C: Amen. Closing Hymn In Christ Alone (Hymn 752, printed on p. 9)

Next Week’s Worship Our theme for worship: The Resurrection gives peace. Our readings will be: Acts 26: 19-29, 1 Corinthians 15: 12-22, John 20” 19-31. We will sing the following hymns: 341 Crown Him with Many Crowns, 153 Alleluia! Jesus Lives, 165 O Sons and Daughters of the King, 316 O Jesus, Blessed Lord, to Thee.

5

Second Lesson 1 Corinthians 15: 19-26 If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men. 20 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. 22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. 23 But each in his own turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. 24 Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. 25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death. Children’s Message Ages 3 through grade 5 are invited to come forward for a Bible lesson. Children’s Church During the second service, parents may choose to take their children (ages 2-6) to Children’s Church. There they will hear a Bible story, sing songs, learn a prayer and do a craft. They will return to the sanctuary during the offering. Hymn of the Day Come, You Faithful, Raise the Strain (Hymn 142)

Sermon Mark 16: 1-8 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. 2 Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb 3 and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?” 4 But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. 5 As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. 6 “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. 7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.’” 8 Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.

Easter Confession of Faith (The Second Article of the Apostles’ Creed and Martin Luther’s Explanation)

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

What does this mean? I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity and also true man, born of the Virgin Mary, is my Lord. He has redeemed me a lost and condemned creature, purchased and won me from all sins, from death and from the power of the devil, not with gold or silver, but with his holy, precious blood and with his innocent suffering and death. All this he did that I should be his own and live under him in his kingdom and serve him in everlasting righteousness, innocence and blessedness, just as he has risen from death and lives and rules eternally. This is most certainly true.

Thank Offering “We love because he first loved us.” 1Jn 4:19 God’s love in sending Jesus to live, to suffer, and to die for each of us motivates the members of Beautiful Savior to show their love and thanks by returning a portion of their income to the Lord. Through these free will offerings, this congregation and its ministries are maintained. Connection Cards (During this time please fill out the connection cards. They will be collected by an usher or you may place them in the Connection Card boxes at the back of church.) Please stand

Prayer of the Day and the Lord’s Prayer P: Heavenly Father, God of grace, you have brought us into a new and living hope by the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. C: Christ is risen! P: We marvel at the love you showed by your willingness to sacrifice your Son to pay for our sins; we bow down in adoration at your mighty power, which raised him from the dead. C: We praise you for sending the true Life and Light into the world.

7

P: Lord Jesus, God of grace, you have filled our hearts with resurrection joy by your victory over sin, death, and the grave. C: You have conquered the darkness and given us comfort and hope. P: Dear Savior, we who are weary and burdened come to you for rest, knowing that because of your perfect redemption there is now no condemnation for us. C: You are risen indeed! P: Take away our doubts and fears, and daily renew in us the joy of our salvation. C: Alleluia! P: Holy Spirit, God of grace, you have called us by the gospel and brought us to saving faith in our risen Lord. C: We glorify you for opening our eyes to see the light of life. P: Keep us with Jesus Christ in the one true faith. C: He is risen! P: As we journey through life, make us yearn for the day when you will give eternal life to us and all believers in Christ. C: He is risen indeed! P: Work through us as we proclaim the saving message of the crucified and risen Jesus near and far, so that many others may hear your call, obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, and join us before the throne of our God and of the Lamb. C: Alleluia! For our Lord God Almighty reigns. Alleluia! Amen. P: And we join together to pray the prayer Jesus taught us: C: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. Sermon Hymn I Know that My Redeemer Lives (Hymn 152)
