The Worship of Father, Son, and Holy SpiritApril 22, 2012The Lord’s Day

We have a nursery available for children 3 andunder. Children 4 to 6 years of age may be dismissed to Godly Play prior to the sermon. Thank you for joining us todayand may the Lord richly bless you.

Song of Assembly1

On Jordan’s Stormy Banks TraditionalOn Jordan’s stormy banks I stand and cast a wishful eye,

To Canaan’s fair and happy land where my possessions lie.

All o’er those wide extended plains shines one eternal day; There God, the Son forever reigns and scatters night away.

I am bound, I am bound,I am bound for the Promised Land.

I am bound, I am bound,I am bound for the Promised Land

No chilling winds nor pois’nous breath can reach that healthful shore,And sickness, sorrow, pain, and death are felt and feared no more.

When shall I reach that happy place and be forever blest? When shall I see my Savior’s face and in His bosom rest?

Welcome and Preparation for WorshipThe man who has faith is the man who is no longer looking at himself and no longer looking to himself. He does not evenlook at what he hopes to be as the result of his own efforts. He looks entirely to the Lord Jesus Christ and His finishedwork, and rests on that alone. ~ Martin Lloyd-Jones

I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have sufferedthe loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having arighteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness fromGod that depends on faith—that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead. ~ Philippians 3

GOD OPENS HIS GATES AND CALLS HIS PEOPLE IN

Call to Worship2 Psalm 89:1I will sing of the steadfast love of the Lord, forever; with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations.

Prayer of Adoration & Praise Based on Psalm 4

Hymn of Praise

Worship Christ, the Risen King! HayfordRise, O church, and lift your voices, Christ has conquered death and hell.

Sing as all the earth rejoices; resurrection anthems swell.Come and worship, come and worship, worship Christ, the risen King!

Doubt may lift its head to murmur, scoffers mock and sinners jeer; But the truth proclaims a wonder thoughtful hearts receive with cheer.

He is risen, He is risen, now receive the risen King!

We acclaim Your life, Lord Jesus, now we sing Your victory;Sin or hell may seek to seize us, but Your conquest keeps us free.

Stand in triumph, stand in triumph, worship Christ, the risen King!

GOD ADDS TO HIS CHURCH

The Sacrament of Holy Baptism Lucy Josephine McMahan

Solemn Vows - ParentsDo you acknowledge your child's need of the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ, and the renewing grace of the Holy Spirit?

Do you claim God's covenant promises on his behalf, and do you look in faith to the Lord Jesus Christ for his salvation, as you dofor your own?

Do you now present this child to be baptized into the Christian Faith, and promise, in humble reliance upon divine grace, thatyou will endeavor to set before him a godly example, that you will pray with him and for him, that you will teach him the doctrinesof our holy faith, and that you will strive, by all means of God's appointment, to bring him up in the nurture and admonition ofthe Lord?

Solemn Vows - CongregationDo you, members of this congregation and also members of the Body of Christ outside of this local church, undertake thisresponsibility - assisting the parents in the Christian nurture of this child?

Solemn Words to the ChildLittle child, Jesus Christ has come, he has fought, he has suffered. He has entered into the shadows of Gethsemane and the terrorsof Calvary; he has uttered the cry “It is finished!” He has risen from the dead and ascended into heaven, and there he intercedes

2 We believe that God always initiates with sinners, so we begin worship with his invitation and command to us to gather in His name.2

for his church. Today we have pledged to teach you all of these things, and our prayer for you is that you will always mature andgrow in the grace and in the knowledge of our great Lord and Savior - Jesus Christ.

Prayer for Lucy Elder Stuart Smith

GOD FORGIVES HIS PEOPLE THEIR SINS

Return to the Lord Joel 2:12, 13a“Yet even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; andrend your hearts and not your garments.”

We Confess Our Sins TogetherI, a poor sinner, acknowledge before you, my God and Creator, that I have terribly and in many ways sinned againstyou, not only outwardly, but much more with inward blindness, unbelief, doubts, despondency, impatience, pride, covetousness, envy, hatred, malice, and other sinful affections, as you, my Lord and God, know well, and I cannotdeeply enough deplore. But I repent of these things, and am sorry for them, and heartily ask you for mercy, for thesake of your beloved Son Jesus Christ. ...Silent & Personalized Confession of Sin... Amen!

Words of Assurance Joel 2:13bReturn to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relentsover disaster.

Worship with Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs

Indescribable StoryFrom the highest of heights to the depths of the sea,

Creation’s revealing your majesty.From the colors of fall to the fragrance of spring,Every creature unique in the song that it sings;

All exclaiming,

Indescribable, uncontainable,You placed the stars in the sky and you know them by name.

You are amazing God!All powerful, untamable,

Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim,You are amazing God!

Who has told every lightning bolt where it should go?Or seen Heavenly storehouses laden with snow?

Who imagined the sun and gives source to its light,Yet conceals it to bring us the coolness of night?

None can fathom,

By His Wounds PowellHe was pierced for our transgressions

He was crushed for our sinsThe punishment that brought us peace was upon Him

And by His wounds, by His wounds we are healed

GOD SPEAKS TO HIS PEOPLE THROUGH HIS WORD

Sermon3 Pastor Tommy LeeSeries: “My Time is at Hand.” (Matt. 26:18)

IX. The Continental DivideMatthew 27:1-10

We Respond: Blessed are the Forgiven From Psalm 32Pastor: Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.People: Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.Pastor: For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.People: For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer.Pastor: I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,”People: and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. All: Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the Lord.

GOD INVITES HIS PEOPLE TO HIS TABLE

The Sacrament of the Lord’s SupperCommunion, also called The Lord’s Supper or Eucharist, is the family meal of Christians. We invite all committedfollowers of Jesus Christ to share in this sacrament: those who are baptized members of a congregation that proclaims thegospel, who are at peace with God and their neighbor, and who seek strength to live in a deeper communion with Jesus. If you are not a Christian, or you are not prepared to share in this meal, we encourage you to spend this time in prayer. We hope that this time is helpful to you as you consider your relationship with Jesus Christ and with his people, the Church.

My Tribute CrouchHow can I say thanks for the things You have done for me?

Things so undeserved, yet You gave to prove Your love for me;The voices of a million angels could not express my gratitude.

All that I am and ever hope to be, I owe it all to Thee.

To God be the glory, to God be the glory,To God be the glory for the things He has done.

With His blood He has saved me, with His power He has raised me;To God be the glory for the things He has done.

Just let me live my life, let it pleasing, Lord to Thee,And if I gain any praise, let it go to Calvary.

3 4, 5, & 6 year-old children may be dismissed before the sermon to Godly Play in room 173.5
