The Worship of Father, Son & Holy SpiritFebruary 19, 2012

The Lord’s Day

Welcome in the name of the Lord Jesus! If you are a guest with us, please be sure to sign our Registry when it is passedbefore the service. Children are welcome in our worship. We have a nursery available for children 3 and under. Children4 to 6 years of age may be dismissed to Godly Play prior to the sermon. Thank you for joining us today and may the Lordrichly bless you.

Song of Assembly1

Arise, My Soul, Arise WesleyArise, my soul arise, shake off your guilty fears,

The bleeding sacrifice in my behalf appears. Before the throne, my Surety stands, before the throne, my Surety stands,

My name is written on His hands.

Arise, arise, arise, arise my soul, arise!Arise, arise, arise, arise my soul, arise,

Shake off your guilty fear and rise!

He ever lives above for me to intercede,His all redeeming love, His precious blood to plead,

His blood atoned for every race, His blood atoned for every race,And sprinkles now the throne of grace.

Five bleeding wounds He bears received on Calvary,They pour effectual prayers, they strongly plead for me,

“Forgive him, oh forgive,” they cry, “forgive him, oh forgive,” they cry,“Nor let that ransomed sinner die.”

My God is reconciled, His pardoning voice I hear,He owns me for His child, I can no longer fear,

With confidence I now draw nigh, with confidence I now draw nigh,And “Father, Abba, Father” cry.

Welcome and Preparation for WorshipAnd when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. ~Matthew 26:30

Was it not truly brave of our dear Lord to sing under such circumstances? He was going forth to his last dread conflict, toGethsemane, and Gabbatha, and Golgotha; yet he went with a song on his lips. He must have led the singing, for thedisciples were too sad to start the hallel with which the paschal feast closed. ~Charles Spurgeon

The Lord Calls Us to Worship HimCall to Worship2 Hebrews 12:18, 19, 22-24, 28-29For you have not come to what may be touched, a blazing fire and darkness and gloom and a tempest and the sound of atrumpet and a voice whose words made the hearers beg that no further messages be spoken to them. But you have cometo Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of therighteous made perfect, and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better wordthan the blood of Abel. Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer toGod acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.

Prayer of Adoration & Praise Based on Psalm 50

Hymn of Praise

Crown Him with Many Crowns BridgesCrown him with many crowns, the Lamb upon his throne,

Hark! how the heavenly anthem drowns all music but its own.Awake, my soul, and sing of him who died for thee,

And hail him as thy matchless King through all eternity.

Crown him the Lord of life, who triumphed o’er the grave,Who rose victorious in the strife for those he came to save.

His glories now we sing, who died, and rose on high,Who died, eternal life to bring, and lives that death may die.

Crown him the Lord of heav’n, One with the Father knownOne with the Spirit thro’ Him giv’n from yonder glorious throne

To thee be endless praise for thou for us has died.Be thou, O Lord, thro’ endless days Adored and magnified!

Reading of the Word & Confession of Faith 2 Timothy 2:8-13Pastor: Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in my gospel, for which I am suffering, bound with chains as a criminal. But the word of God is not bound! Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, thatthey also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. The saying is trustworthy, for:

People: If we have died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we denyhim, he also will deny us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful—for he cannot deny himself.

2 We believe that God always initiates with sinners, so we begin worship with his invitation and command to us to gather in His name.2

The Lord Graciously Renews Us in ChristConfession of SinMost merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors asourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us andforgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. ...Silent & PersonalizedConfession of Sin... Amen!

No Condemnation! Romans 8:1; Psalm 103:8, 10-12There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.... The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow toanger and abounding in steadfast love. He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to ouriniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far asthe east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.

Worship with Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs

Our God TomlinWater You turned into wine, opened the eyes of the blind

There’s no one like You, none like YouInto the darkness You shine, out of the ashes we rise

There’s no one like You, none like You

Our God is greater, our God is stronger, God You are higher than any otherOur God is Healer, awesome in power, our God, our God...

Into the darkness you shine, out of the ashes we RiseThere’s no one like You, none like You.

And if our God is for us, then who could ever stop usAnd if our God is with us, then what could stand against?

And if our God is for us, then who could ever stop usAnd if our God is with us, then what could stand against?

What could stand against?

Lead On, O King Eternal ShurtleffLead on, O King eternal, the day of march has come;

Henceforth in fields of conquest, thy tents shall be our home.Through days of preparation, thy grace has made us strong;

And now, O King eternal, we lift our battle song.

Lead on, O King eternal, till sin’s fierce war shall cease,And holiness shall whisper, the sweet amen of peace.

For not with swords loud clashing, nor roll of stirring drums; With deeds of love and mercy the heavenly kingdom comes.

3

Page 5: DPC Bulletin - February 19, 2012

So lead on, O King, Lead on, O King,Lead on, O King, Lead on.

Lead on, O King eternal, we follow, not with fears,For gladness breaks like morning where’er thy face appears.

Thy cross is lifted o’er us, we journey in its light; The crown awaits the conquest; lead on, O God of might.

In Christ Alone TownendIn Christ Alone my hope is found, He is my strength, my light, my song;

This Cornerstone, this solid ground, firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace, when fears are stilled, when strivings cease!

My Comforter, my All in All, here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone! Who took on flesh, fullness of God in helpless babe! This gift of love and righteousness, scorned by the ones He came to save.

Till on that cross, as Jesus died, the wrath of God was satisfied,My every sin on Him was laid, here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay, light of the world in darkness slain:Then bursting forth in glorious day, up from the grave he rose again!

And as He stands in victory, sin’s curse has lost its grip on me,For I am His and He is mine, bought with the precious blood of Christ.

No guilt in life, no fear in death, this is the power of Christ in me;From life’s first cry to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny.

No power of hell, no scheme of man, can ever pluck me from His hand;Till He returns or calls me home, here in the power of Christ I’ll stand!

The Lord Meets Us at His TableTwo Covenant Children Come to the Table Allie Blevins & Emily Grace Lyons

Solemn Vows (PCA Book of Church Order §57-5)Do you acknowledge yourselves to be sinners in the sight of God, justly deserving His displeasure, and without hope exceptthrough His sovereign mercy?

Do you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as the Son of God, and Savior of sinners, and do you receive and rest upon Him alonefor salvation as He is offered in the Gospel?

Do you now resolve and promise, in humble reliance upon the grace of the Holy Spirit, that you will endeavor to live as becomesfollowers of Christ?

Do you promise to support the Church in its worship and work to the best of your abilities?

Do you submit yourselves to the government and discipline of the Church, and promise to study its purity and peace?

The Sacrament of the Lord’s SupperCommunion, also called The Lord’s Supper or Eucharist, is the family meal of Christians. We invite all committedfollowers of Jesus Christ to share in this sacrament: those who are baptized members of a congregation that proclaims thegospel, who are at peace with God and their neighbor, and who seek strength to live in a deeper communion with Jesus. If you are not a Christian, or you are not prepared to share in this meal, we encourage you to spend this time in prayer. We hope that this time is helpful to you as you consider your relationship with Jesus Christ and with his people, the Church.

By His Wounds PowellHe was pierced for our transgressions

He was crushed for our sinsThe punishment that brought us peace was upon Him

And by His wounds, by His wounds we are healed

We are healed by Your sacrificeIn the life that You gave

We are healed for You paid the priceBy Your grace we are saved

We are saved

What can wash away my sin?Nothing but the blood of Jesus

The Lord Blesses Us and Sends Us OutBenediction4 Numbers 6:24-26The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift uphis countenance upon you and give you peace.

We Are the Body of Christ HamptonOne heart, one Spirit, one voice to praise You,

We are the body of Christ. One goal, one vision, to see You exalted,

We are the body of Christ. And to this we give our lives

To see You glorified.

One heart, one Spirit, one voice to praise You,We are the body of Christ. We are the body of Christ.

4 Just as God called us into His presence at the beginning, so now He commands His blessing upon us as we depart. We look up and extend our handsin a posture of thanksgiving as we receive this great gift. Our final response to God’s assurance of His peace and presence upon those who are in Christis a chorus of joyful song.

Proverbs 27.17 says, “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” Men, if we’re not intentionallysharpening one another, that usually means that we're being dulled by the world. There’s not a lot ofmiddle ground when it comes to our souls. That’s why the Iron Men of DPC exists! We need friendship withone another, so that we can keep one another “sharp” through mutual brotherly encouragement, counsel, correction, and challenge. One way the Iron Men of DPC pursue this kind of sharpening is through Men’s Bible Studies. In the Fall ofevery year, we meet together on Tuesday mornings for Bible Study in a large group. In the Spring of everyyear, we meet in small groups that are spread throughout the area and meet throughout the week. Weare currently studying Proverbs in small groups. And Proverbs is a great book for men to discuss together! Because you know what – there are details ofmy character & your character that may be small enough to “escape notice” when we’re studying thethundering of the Law or the broadsides of the Prophets ... and yet, they matter. And they are decisive inwhat kind of life we end up living. This is the arena of the Proverbs. What am I like to live with? To employ? How do I manage myself? My time? My affairs? What kind of habits am I developing? What would wisdomhave to say to me about how I talk? What my aims are? What kind of friend I am? What kind of neighborI am? What I do with my money? How I approach my God?Proverbs gets inside our skin about all of those things & more & points us to the glory that is Christ & the“skill in living well” that is found by those who follow him with all their hearts. But the Iron Men of DPC don’t just study together. We also serve together! For example, a couple ofmonths ago several Iron Men enjoyed some Saturday mornings together doing some house repair andpainting for a family in need. How can you find out what’s going on with the Iron Men of DPC? One good way is to get on the Iron Mene-mail list! Just e-mail [email protected], and we’ll get you signed up.

One of the major Iron Men moments in the year to come will be the Authentic Iron MenRetreat! It will be March 2 & 3, right here at DPC, with speakers Phil Reddick and Dave Lewis. Toget more information on the retreat, pick up an informational card from the round table in the welcomecenter.“It is not the critic that counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles or the doer ofdeeds could have them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the Arena, whose face ismarred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but he who does actually strive to do the deed;who knows the great devotion; who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at the best, knows in the end thetriumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails while daring greatly, knows that his placeshall never be with those cold and timid souls, who know neither victory nor defeat.” ~Theodore Roosevelt
