General Notices Remembrance: During this week, we will join the country in remembering and honouring those who have sacrificed themselves to secure and protect our freedom with Sunday, 11th November being the day when the nation comes together through services and ceremonies to 'remember'. Year 9 will participate in the annual Mass of Remembrance on Wednesday, 7th November during period three. Poppies will be on sale in school during the week with pupils from 7BA selling them during registration and lunchtimes . It would be good to see the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal particularly well supported by Year 9 pupils wearing them for the Mass. Mass of Remembrance: During period three on Wednesday, 7th November, Year 9 will be attending the Mass of Remembrance in the hall. Please report to your form rooms at the start of period two where you will leave bags and belongings before being escorted to the hall in silence by your form tutors. During this time, there should be no pupil movement in school with all pupils to remain in form bases. Act of Remembrance: On Friday, 9th November at 11:00 am, we will observe a period of silence to remember all those who have died in conflict. A bell will ring at the start and end of this period of time which should be observed with great respect for those who have given us so much. History: As part of this year ’s Remembrance Centenary, the history department will be teaching special lessons focusing on World War One and the Armistice throughout the week. The lessons will include footage from the exceptional new film resource 'They Shall Not Grow Old'. Peter Jackson, best known for directing The Lord of the Rings trilogy, has created a new film using original footage from Imperial War Museums’ extensive archive, much of it previously unseen, alongside BBC and IWM interviews with servicemen who fought in the conflict. Footage has been colourised, converted to 3D and transformed with modern production techniques to present never before seen detail. As a school we will also be taking part in the Royal British Legion's 'Thank You' campaign, giving special thanks to those who were involved in World War One. Specially designed displays and memorials will be on view across the school. Roadworks on Norfolk Road (5th November to 14th December): Lancashire County Council are carrying repairs to the pavements on Norfolk Road commencing 5th November and hopefully finishing by 14th December. Cars will not be able to park on Norfolk Road between 7.30 am - 4 .00 pm. Please be very careful in this area and use the pavement arrangements that the signs are directing you to use. We have a busy few weeks ahead of us with Year 11 pupils completing mock exams and preparations for the Christmas activities at the end of term.
