4-year old girldrowns in Tawi

UDHAMPUR, Oct 21: In atragic incident, a minor girl offour-years drowned after sheaccidentally slipped into Tawiwater, here today.

The deceased, namelyNamita, daughter of RomeshKumar of Chak Pakhlai, wasaccompanying her grandfatherwhen she accidentally slippedinto Tawi water. Despite hecticefforts by her grandfather andsome other people, the minorgirl could not be rescued andlater her body was fished outwith the help of police.

JKNM discusses prevailing situation in Kashmir

JAMMU, Oct 21: Jammuand Kashmir NationalistMovement (JKNM) Executivemet here today to assess the lat-est situation in the State and for-mulate adequate response.

The meeting expressed con-cern over sweeping radicalizingof Valley society, continuationof infiltration from LoC andBorder and failure to initiate aresult oriented harmonizationexercise on political level.

The meeting said that theprevailing situation reveals thatconditions are far away fromnormalization in Kashmir.

It said that after mass resent-ment in the Valley aimed at foil-ing the public announcement ofthe PM and the CM about con-centrated rehabilitation of IDPs,the Centre and the State chose to

seal their lips and eat the humblepie. The relative episode in theLegislative Assembly is a reve-lation, it added.

The JKNM resolved thatdespite return and rehabilitationturned rhetoric than reasonswith Governments and politicalleadership, past and present, itreiterated its duly consideredproposal of twin city as just ,viable and acceptable formulathat serves the interests of allnationalists who have a stake inthe return and rehabilitation ofthe IDPs.

The meeting said JKNMwould help the Government torecollect the team of interlocu-tors headed by Dilip Padgaonkarafter assessing the ground reali-ty in the Valley also stronglyrecommended the Twin City for-mula in their final report to theGovernment of India.

RAJOURI, Oct 21:Government PostgraduateCollege Rajouri organized anInaugural Function of Add-oncourses in Journalism,Functional English and Tourismunder the control of Prof. JavedMughal, HoD English as thecoordinator of the courses.

It was a mega event wheremore than 250 students gotthemselves enrolled in variousprofessional courses. AdvocateVibodh Gupta, MLC Rajouriwas the chief guest on the occa-sion. Gupta has been the alumniof the Post Graduate CollegeRajouri who visited college forthe first time after being electedas MLC. He was honored by thestaff and students of the College.

While taking stock of theinternal condition of the collegecampus he announced anamount of Rs 5 lakh and handedthe authority letter thereof to thePrincipal of the College for theup-gradation of the internal

roads which were pitiably inshabby conditions.

The proceedings of the func-tion were presided over by Prof.S.H. Shaw, the Principal of theCollege. Mr Gupta, expressedhis views on the need andimportance of the newlylaunched professional courses inday day life. He impressed uponthe students of the college tologically define the futurecourse of action with regard totheir respectful survival in thesociety. PK asks people tothwart designs of PakExcelsior CorrespondentJAMMU, Oct 21: The

Political Affairs Committee ofPanun Kashmir (PK) met heretoday and conducted a paneldiscussion on the latest politicalsituation in the State and thestatements emanating fromPakistan. The meeting waspresided over by AshwaniKumar Chrungoo, President,Panun Kashmir and attended byVirender Raina, Nationalspokesperson, Upinder Kaul,general secretary, KamalBagati, organising secretary,N.M.Gadroo, Vijay Qazi, RaviPunjabi, Ramesh Kaul,P.K.Kaul and Sameer Bhat.

Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo,President, P K while addressingthe meeting said that the timehas come to thwart the belliger-ence of Pakistan against Indiain a comprehensive manner.While reacting to the recentstatement of Pakistan’s ForeignSecretary Aijaz Chaudhary thatPakistan is developing or hasdeveloped small tacticalnuclear weapons for use againstIndia, he said it smacks of high-ly sinister motive. Pakistan’srole in the creation and abet-ment of terrorism against Indiais a well recognised fact and assuch the threat of Pakistan’snuclear weapons falling in thehands of terrorists can also benot ruled out as a possible sce-nario, he added.

He said Pakistan has beenrecognised as the epicenter ofglobal terrorism by the worldcommunity and with the condi-tions prevailing inside Pakistan,the world community needs tocome together to prevent thedangerous cocktail of nuclearand terror combine. In the con-text of Pakistan PM’s visit tothe US, he appealed to theUnited States Government onbehalf of exiled Pandits to takea strong notice of the statementand the connected develop-ments affecting the security sit-uation. It is the duty of theUnited States administration to

defang Pakistan of its nucleareggs and secure the civilizedworld from an imminent threat,he added.

Virender Raina, NationalSpokesperson-PK said that thepeace in Kashmir is possibleonly by strengthening thenationalist constituency in theState and also by frustrating thenefarious designs of Pakistan.Kashmiri Pandits are the primevictims of Pak sponsored andabetted terrorism in Kashmirand have faced genocide, ethniccleansing and exodus in theirown country. At a time when theworld has become conscious ofthe refugee situation at a globallevel, the Pandits who are livingas refugees in their own countryneed to be declared as InternallyDisplaced Persons. The recom-mendations made by theParliamentary StandingCommittee of Home Affairs inthis regard need to be acceptedby the Government and imple-mented in letter and spirit, headded.

BSF schools celebrate October Festival

JAMMU, Oct 21: BSFPrimary and BSF Ankur PlaySchools together celebrated“October Festival” with a com-mitment to “entertain with apurpose” marked by a varietyof cultural items creating a col-lage of religious, cultural &patriotic traditions of ournation.

The objective of the festivalwas to involve students andmake them actively participatein celebration of the festiveseason and invigorate in themthe concept of unity in diversi-ty.

Ram Awatar, DIG/PSOJammu Frontier BSF was thechief guest. Others presentwere Ram Awatar, vice presi-

dent BWWA Jammu Frontier,as guest of honour, BSF frater-nity, guests and parents encour-aged the participants.

The fest began with thewelcome speech by the head-master of the school . GayatriKotwal followed by ceremoniallighting of the lamp and dancedevoted to ‘MaaDurga.’ Apatriotic group song and‘Gandhijike Teen Bandar’, ashort skit,was presented as atributeto Mahatma Gandhi.

After this the students pre-sented a ‘Natti Dance’ therebysignifying the Kullu Dassarafollowed by a duet song and‘Garba Dance’ associated withGujrat Navratri.

The winners of co-curric-ular activities were felicitatedby the guest of honour.

The intra – section cre-ative competitions were alsoheld for different classes name-ly, Candle Decoration – class I,Paper Flower Making – classII, Elephant Decoration – classIII, Thali Decoration – class IV,Toran Making – class V. Theform teachers who weredeclared at 1st and 2nd posi-tions were awarded by thechief guest.

Inter House FirelessCooking Competition was alsoheld in which the students pre-pared salad, sandwich and adesert. Tagore House wasdeclared the winner and 2ndposition was won by NehruHouse on the criteria of presen-tation, nutrition & hygiene.

DPS organizes InterSection Rangoli Competition

JAMMU, Oct 21: The stu-dents of DPS organized an 'InterSection Rangoli Competition' tocelebrate festivity.

On the occasion, studentsparticipated with a lot of enthu-siasm as they put together theirartistic, imaginative and creativeskills to make bright and beauti-ful rangolis. Rangoli colours,flower petals and diyas wereused to decorate the Rangolis.The students displayed theirskills by making colourful and

elegant Rangolis. The Rangoli competition

was adjudged by SureshSharma. The criteria for judge-ment was based on symmetry,colour combination, creativityand the neatness of the Rangoli.

Class V-F was adjudged firstwhile class V-G and class V-Igot 2nd and 3rd positionsrespectively.

While addressing the partici-pants after inaugurating theexhibition of Rangolis, MeenuGupta, Headmistress DPSJammu stated that Rangoli is anintegral part of Indian cultureand Art of India. Organizingsuch events in the school helpyoung children to remain inclose touch with their culture.She also urged the students toadopt eco-friendly ways of cele-brating festivity.

125 policemen adjusted in

Rajouri-PoonchExcelsior CorrespondentRAJOURI, Oct 21: One

hundred and twenty five (125)police personnel, including nine(9) Sub Inspectors have beenadjusted in Rajouri- PoonchRange by the Deputy InspectorGeneral of Police.

According to officialsources, DIG Rajouri- PoonchRange, AK Attri adjusted allthe 125 police personnel whowere recently transferred toRajouri and Poonch Range.

They included 9 SubInspectors, 3 Assistant SubInspectors, 4 Head Constables,94 Selection Grade Constableand 15 Constable.

Out of these 125, 63 offi-cials have been adjusted inRajouri while 62 in Poonch dis-trict.

new president of JammuKashmir State Board of School

Education Non-GazettedEmployees Association, elec-tions of which were held today.

In a triangularcontest, Mr Guptadefeated his nearestrival RajeshChoudhary with amargin of six votes.Gupta secured 137votes while MrChoudhary and thirdcontestant VijaySingh Jasrotia werepolled 161 and sixvotes, respectively.

JWAM protests againstnon-availability of Govt ration

JAMMU, Oct 21: Theactivists of Jammu WestAssembly Movement JWAM)burnt effigies of the State CAPDand Union Food Ministries inprotest against non-availabilityof Government ration at depotsfor the last three months.

Sunil Dimple, presidentJWAM, led the protest againstnon-availibility of ration cardand kerosene oil for the eco-nomically weaker sections ofthe State, particularly in theJammu region.

He alleged that the CAPDdepartment has badly failed tocater the needs of the consumersand also badly failed to controland check the rising prices.

Dimple demanded a checkon the rising prices and consti-tution of flying squads to raidthe dumping house of thehoarders, black marketeers andimplementation of FoodSecurity Bill, besides exemp-tion of Sale Tax on domesticLPG, petrol and diesel to relievethe common man of the State.

Two womenamong five heldwith illicit liquor

SRINAGAR, Oct 21: Policetoday said it arrested five boot-leggers that include two womenin Kargil district of LadakhDivision and recovered illicitliquor from their possession.

A police spokesman said onspecific information, a policeparty raided few Dhabas at KabadiNalla and Baimathang and recov-ered 574 Bottles of illicit liquorfrom the possession of BudhaBhadure, Dando Sharpa, KumariTamang and Kanchi Tamang. Thefour bootleggers, police said, areall from Nepal. Poshan Dass, aresident of Kishtwar district wasalso arrested.

"The accused persons werearrested and five cases underFIR numbers 75/2015, 76/2015,77/2015, 78/2015 and 79/2015under Section 48 Excise Actwere registered," thespokesman added.

Four injured as auto rolls down

JAMMU, Oct 21: Four per-sons were injured today whenthe auto on which they weretravelling in, skidded off theroad and rolled down nearNagrota Byepass.

According to a policespokesperson, the accidentoccurred this evening due to thenegligence of the auto driver wholost control over the steering. Hesaid that the injured were imme-diately shifted to GovernmentMedical College and Hospital,Jammu for treatment.

The injured have been iden-tified as Dwarka Nath Bhat(65), Anjali Bhat (35), SatishKumar Dhar (52) and KuldeepBhat (40).

A case in this connection hasbeen registered at concernedpolice station further investiga-tions are underway.

SRINAGAR, Oct 21:Police today said a youth losthis life after drowning in Lehdistrict of Ladakh Division.

A police spokesman said23 year-old Bilal AhmadMagrey of Chill Bros inKhansahib village Budgamdistrict who was working withA to Z Company in Lehdrowned in Indus River nearIgg village.

"The body of deceased wasfished out. After completionof legal formalities the bodyof the deceased was handedover to his legal heirs for lastrites.

Police have initiatedinquest proceedings underSection 174 CrPC in thisregard," the spokesman added.
