Page 2: Double page articles

The overall design of this double page spread appealed to me, as the sophisticated and organised style also fit with my genre and target audience.

As the photo is on one side of the magazine, it has an organised style, appealing to an older target audience. A younger audience would

prefer to have a busy layout so they are instantly attracted and don’t get bored, but a

more mature audience would prefer this classier layout.

The idea of the “L” shape behind the text is unique and stylish, and is

distinct to this magazine. The red makes it look eye-catching and bold, portraying confidence. However, for my magazine I decided to leave the

background white, as I thought a letter may distract the reader from the

article.

I liked the image choice, as it had a “vintage” and classy style with a sepia effect. It makes it seem exclusive and sophisticated, fitting with the house style. It intuiting having just the one picture, as the audience may want to read on to find more.

There are no pull quotes in this

article, which could in fact add to the

maturity and intrigue, leaving it

just to lady gaga fans to read it.

However, the text may look slightly daunting to read, and new readers

that are not originally fans of

the artist may not be interested. I

decided that pull quotes add to the

variety of the article, and may

even attract new readers and fans

that could buy the magazine in the

future. There is a clear divide between the text and the image, making the style

almost like a book. This design appealed to me as my layout in my contents and front cover was also like this. Therefore my house style

would be consistent. I wanted to add more images, as this will appeal to fans of the artists and draw new fans in. It would also show more variety.

This double page spread does not show a clear divide like the last one. As the image is the background, it gives an inviting and busier style.

The title of the spread is large and bold, which a sophisticated font. It looks like handwriting,

perhaps adding a personal effect to the spread.

The colour scheme is consistent, and shows a

bright red to perhaps even match her hair. It conveys

confidence and a splash of colour against the white

background.

The image choice looks flirtatious and quite challenging, as she has a direct gaze to the camera. It could intrigue people into the article. As it easily flows onto the next page, it may be easier and more tempting to read the rest.

The short introduction

gives a small taster into the article without

giving anything away, and

doesn't take up too much space.

The rhetorical question could

evoke the reader to be curious and

read on, as it is very direct.

Again, there are no pull quotes as the image is large and takes up a lot of space. The white background is classy and bright, appealing to a more

mature audience.

This double page spread has a very busy layout, which could in fact reflect the busy genre of music. There are many photos so that the audience are interested, and these are spread out in a “messy” way.

The colour scheme is consistent, and even the photos keep to the same style. The red is bold and confident, which is very eye-catching to a working-class or younger audience. The black seems to be the typical colour for this genre, and

it makes it look slightly dark and mysterious.

Buzz words are used on the left hand side to attract the reader,

such “news” and “exclusive”. The text and photos are

overlapping on the page to create variety and a welcoming

feel.

There is a short introduction, which is simply used as a taster for the article. There is not much text on this page, as the audience will be more attracted to the busy layout and images.

The style is very informal, as the image is acting as the background for the page. It gives a welcoming feel, and looks less like a book. Pull quotes are not needed as the images already give an insight into the article and the

band. The images are actions shots, giving a n exciting feel to the page. As this is an “exclusive” article, the pictures look fresh and fun.

The masthead is at a slight

angle, showing obscurity and

even portraying rebellion. It

highlights the fact that this is informal. There appears to be a box on the right advertising their

new tracks, which is very exciting and exclusive for true fans.
