Double Page

Main image will overlap with the second page, filling up half of it, this makes the image extremely big and making it the main focus, which means that the image has to be of a great salsa artist, with a grand view of what their life is like, introducing the target audience to this by using different props and locations to really give the audience an idea of how they live.

Heading will be written underneath the image. It will be written in bold fancy letter’s which stands out from the context written underneath it, however I might want it to be black as it can still be identified as the main heading, however it may not be appropriate as too much black is used, making it colourless, having no sense of aliveness, which is the main mode of this.

Drop cap could be used as it’s very common in a music magazine, which would make my double page look like an original DP magazine. It’s typography will be in ARIAL and all the context will be written like so, I might want to us quote’s to make the text more interesting to the audience’ because a whole page of just reading will bore the 20 and over, year old with lots of reading, so by putting this it will give a clearer view of what the story is about and what this person has quoted about the story.

The page will be written at the top so that the written wont be all surfaced in one area but is spread more down at the bottom, which wont impact all the context at the far top making it long to look at. Also because the page number wont we in the way with the context

The context will be constructed with to columns. One column will be smaller than the other, to fight in a quote in the other column making it look less wordy and more like a 20 year old type of magazine, which would be more lively and exciting to look at and read.

The main image will be placed here as it’s the first side the reader will look at, and the image will be of a famous salsa singer, which immediately shows the target audience of this magazine.

Catch phrase would be written underneath, with something like ‘Tito el bambino has lowered down too drug use’ which interest audiences who know this singer and want to read what has made them do this, ruining themselves, it would be written in a different font, and in a big font size, making it come out more than the rest of the text, to inform a small part of the story, interesting audiences to read on.

Layout of this image will be structured like so, telling the most important part of the story and how it happened at the beginning then goes on talking on to the next page, Which has to columns that separate the text making it look neat. Rather than having just one whole column, which would look like an essay, I’ll have two because if it’s got one it will disinterest my target audience as they’d feel like there at college/university, having to read a long blog full of writing.

An image would be placed here as I don’t want the context to start from the far top making it a long structure of written, because my target audience would want to see a bit of colour or picture’s which opens there mind to a better picture of what the story’s about, having just one image will make it less interesting for people aged 20 and over.

Heading underneath the small image at the top hand side, would be coloured in a bright, maybe orange or red colour, as it’s colours that relate to salsa, however it also depends on what the main story is about which would mean if it was about a famous artist’ suicide, the colour could still be red but for a depression statue I could use grey. However if the choose to use a great career statues I could also use red, as it’s fancy and shows hard keen focus in work life.

Layout of Double page spread is well spaced out, white backgrounds, putting the source image on the left hand side, with the written text on the other, bringing the context ‘USA’ to the right hand side page, establishing that these pages are together. The main image of Florence and the machine, makes her the main source talked about, this is specifically done to bring attention, letting target audience know she’s the main focus. The USA sign at the back combines with the colour, red, flag at the bottom, embracing that she’s from America, which brings a wider range of people to read this context, American, people of admiration to singer, Florence. ‘Got the love’ sub heading has to different ways of analysing as is could be USA…got the love, talking about how this American singer ‘has got the love’ or it can be talking about her original song which is called ‘got the love’, interesting audiences, also bringing a bit of curiosity to this. By-line is written underneath this to simply show the author of this context. Call out is written a different type font to stand out from the main text, showing a small part of what the main text will be talking about. A small A drop cap is used in the context ‘D’ with the same type phrase as the sub heading, establishing that its talking about the same subject.

Double Page Spread - research

This double page spread two pages of Shakira, which is a Latin singer who has a category in Salsa music, it’s a great idea having her here, as she’s a very attractive woman and is an idol for all young woman, this immediately shows that this magazine is targeted to female woman around there 20’s to 30’s. The layout of this double page is spread in 4 grids, with different type fonts, to make it more interesting, showing the text talk is different from the others. On the left hand side, next to the image, there’s a sub heading in which tells us that Shakira is ‘in the studio’, knowing this, brings attention and asks questions in what’s this about? Considering that the head title is ‘Danger! Shakira at work’ warning that there might be trouble in her career which is effecting her work. Pull quote is easy to identify as the text is sized larger, bold, italic and its underlined with colour, red, bringing the audiences focus to this text, a pull quotes is mostly based on what the main person is talking about and what they have specifically said themselves. There’s 2 captions, both next to the image, the one on the left could be explaining why Shakira is posed the way she is, like she was in a modelling shot. Drop cap is used to start the storyline, the letter ‘S’ could mean that it was done as Shakira name starts with an ‘S’. Image margin is used so that is wont be so squashed against the other texts, images and gives the image more space and interest.

Double Page Spread-Research

Layout of this double page is very simple, not so many images are used nor colour , its clear, white and spaced out which combine with the heading ‘Self Obsession’ , this is saying that a self obsessed person is always thinking and bragging on about how good they are or what they have achieved or can achieve, the colours grey, black and white contribute with this. Three columns are used and laid neatly, typography used is the same through out all the text, explaining that self obsession is something repeated as they always repeat how great they are. The text is perfect, clear establishing that this is something quite unordinary and boring, old and repeated can be boring. The image of a woman can show that woman are the ones that are more self obsessed than man, the image is of her looking down at us, making her look bigger and feel more empowered which is something that explains self obsession, thinking that she’s much better than everyone. Its got a by-line saying who its written by, showing that its either a real story told or a written article of people that are like this in general.

Statement of Intent

I will use a layout that has more than two columns because I don’t want all the contexts placed near each other, it should have enough space, leaving white space seen. The first page will have a context, with small information of the image. This can have a repeated information which was ready seen in the contexts page, refreshing the reader on what will be read. The second page will have a longer column of context that gives the full information on what's going on in this page and what the image relates.

To construct the image I will use a pull out quote to make the image make more sense. This can immediate the viewer to see this instead of the context, enthusing them to read the actual information. It will be placed on the second page as the main information is placed there. Using a pink box at the back of this pull out quote, standing it out.

I'm going to us an image of a tanned Latin woman who’s singing through a microphone, expressing her ended love, or I can make her wearing traditional festive clothes, this will establish she’s enjoying life and moving on. This will appeal to it’s target audience and it focuses on what her career is. On the second page I will use an image of either a man all depressed or of the woman dancing with this man, presenting the target audience there love affair they had. Also I’d use an image like this as it relate to music and can relate to the viewer’s life.

From the pull out quote I intend it to relate to the main image as it will explain what’s going on, saying she’s continuing her career without him, which is why she’s at the studio alone. This is done so that the viewer can relate with their own life’s. by it having a box around it, which is pink, it will stand out the pull out quote and type of font size with establish this to be a more important text that make’s sense to what the double page is about.

i placed a rule lines so it can help me estimate where I’ll be having the columns. I then added on an image which relates to my main story written about in my front cover. Having the ruler dividing my columns and giving space in-between the first text and I then inserted the context

I inserted all the other context, page number at the top and also the heading and drop caps.

I made the main image larger and placed another image of two salsa people, defining it’s a salsa magazine. I also added another context, a quote box. The background of this is coloured pink to stand out from the rest. White is embraced from the rest as I want to make the reader read the text written in English, instead of the one in Spanish. I wrote it in Spanish so that it will be believable that she actually stated these words.
