Headline

The headline is used to grab attention, because of this it is the largest text on the page in bold colour to make it stand out and catch the readers eye. It is not used as an anchor to the image.

Stand First

Stand first anchors the image and article. It is the introduction to the feature and is usually the first thing you read on the double page spread.

LayoutThe layout of a double page spread is very important, it is usually set out using 2 pages, none page for the image and the other for the writing. The writing is set out in a column structure with 2-4 columns with a simplistic colour scheme.

Text In a double page spread the first letter is usually larger than the rest of the article, this is called a ‘drop capital’. This is used to show a clear start to the article. The language in a DPS is very personal, including opinions of the journalists- not like a news article. In the article if other artist names are mentioned they are picked out in bold or in colour to make it seem more appealing to the audience.

BylineThis shows who wrote the article and who took the image for the DPS. It is written in a small font as it is not that important to the audience as they’ll just want to read the article

Inserts and captions

Inserts are used to break up the text of an article so the reader stays interested. Captions are used to illustrate an image and anchor an image by telling the reader who is in the image
