DME Final Project 200701 Brief Project Summary Objective To design a retracting mechanism for a communication board that is to be attached to a mobile wheelchair, with the following constraints:
The device must provide a way to permanently install the tablet The tablet must be secured to the wheelchair when deployed for use The tablet must be secured to the wheelchair when stowed The individual must be able to stow and deploy the tablet herself The path of the mechanism should not extend past the footprint of the wheelchair by more than 12” in
any direction in the horizontal plane Project Binder Contents The contents of this design package include:
A brief written report summarizing work, including assumptions, description of device operation, and final results; and a short presentation selling design to the judges
CAD drawings of each component, as well as an assembly drawing Bill of Materials (dimensions, materials, supplier, catalog numbers, cost) Total estimated cost and breakdown Detailed analysis, including free body diagrams, stress and deflection analyses, and final factors of safety
for all components Design As a response to this design problem, we made sure to meet all of the design constraints. Here are the results of those efforts:
