Hello fellow Polar Bears,
I want to say thank you for electing me to serve as your Lieutenant Governor. I will
officially begin my term on March 15, 2015 after I am installed at District Convention.
I am excited to begin my term!
I also want to say congratulations to all the officers who were elected in the past
month. I am excited to work with you this term and help you with any troubles that
may arise. To those who were not elected, I encourage you to apply for the Division
Leadership Team or one of the miscellaneous Task Coordinator positions.

Last month, two clubs combined together to benefit their community. Temecula Valley and Chaparral’s Key Club decided to have a 2-day canned food drive event.
On the first day, the key clubbers informed this contemporary neighborhood that our lovely members are going to collect nonperishable items the following day.
The next day, the community in Murrieta was very happy and generous to help out! From this, Temecula Valley and Chaparral Key Club obtained up to 700 nonperishable items for our wonderful community. It was so wonderful to know that I live in a community that is willing to give up a small portion of what they have, just to make another family’s day.

On February 3rd of this year, Paloma Valley raised a total of 130 units of blood at our second annual blood drive! Although we were under projected donations, everyone was still thankful for those who donated, and proud of what our end result came out to. Paloma’s Key Club helped organize the event, set up, and cleanup. The event allowed students, not just members, to get involved and get service hours. Students who are not yet members get a glimpse at what a service event can be like for key clubbers, and inspire them to join! “The Blood Drive was great, and I had a great time volunteering. Many people donated blood, and we had plenty of volunteers!” - Nicole Clark, Member “It was a great opportunity to work together with fellow Key Clubbers to help facilitate safe blood donations.” - Leticia Martinez, Secretary “My Blood Drive experience was fun, a very social event for me, and I made many new friends. SALLY TSAI-TEA, OUR NEW LTG!
ALYSSA ALEGRE, CHAPARRAL
As we all know, last month, Chaparral’s very own, Sally Tsai was elected LTG for the 2015-2016 term. And as much as we would hate to admit so, Erica, our beloved Mama Polar Bear has to step down as the new term approaches. But Conclave gives some of the most dedicated members a chance to serve our division and lead it to its full potential. Our two prospective candidates, Sally Tsai and Jose Cordova, have spent months preparing for an event of such significance. As intimidating and stressful as the preparation and election process may sound, the love and dedication these candidates have for Key Club really shows at Conclave. In Sally’s speech, she noted Key Club as “my lifestyle, my philosophy, and my ambition.” Jose stated that “a true Key Clubber does service because they are truly dedicated to making their community a better place, not to live the satisfaction of getting a reward.” The heart of the candidates is in the right place, and notab ly, the most admirable place. They both work hard for the organization they love and they care deeply for all aspect of D6S. We thank them for all they’ve done so far and wish them on all future accomplishments!
The delegates may have voted Sally as our LTG, but Jose won’t let this year’s Conclave stop him from being involved in the division. He plans on applying for a position in the DLT for the 2015-2016 term, and will continue putting his all when he serves in the 2016-2017 term. A big thank you to Jose for being a great sport and persisting in aiding in the development of the division!
Erica, we will miss you and we appreciate all the hard work and love you have put into D6S. Through all the fun icebreakers, DCMs, and more, our Ohana has gotten better and stronger with your leadership. You exemplify what it means to be a true Key Clubber and a true friend. The memories our family has shared with you will never be forgotten, and we wish you luck in all your future endeavors! We know you’ll do absolutely fantastic things beyond all that you’ve accomplished for the division. We love you, Mama Polar Bear!
And a big congratulations and good luck to our LTG Elect, Sally Tsai! The division has a lot of faith in you, and we can’t wait to see your plans turn into a reality. Your undying passion for Key Club and your incredible abilities as a leader is why we put D6S into your hands. You continue to inspire us every day with all the laughs and successes that you have shared with the members of the division, and we expect many more to come! We love you and will support you along the way! We know you’ll do great things for the D6S Ohana! Cheers to the next term, may it be filled with many triumphs,
many friendships, many smiles, and lots of polar bear spirit.

The service focus for March is…
March of Dimes helps mothers have full term pregnancies and healthy babies. They help fund
research to discover and stop premature births and birth deformities.
You can learn more at marchofdimes.org
Hold a bake sale for your community. All members can contribute their baked desserts and as
you raise money from your desserts you can inform your community!
Have a table at school to educate your fellow students by having them play baby related
games, educating them of the cause, and then selling March of Dimes cutouts. All cutouts can
be posted on the walls of your school’s office. Games can be found in the following link:

Ask teachers if they would like to participate and put two jars in participating classrooms. One
jar is positive points while the other is negative. Only dimes are positive points; each dime – 10
points. All other coins and dollars stand for negative points.
Join a family team or create one yourself with your club to help fundraise to walk and support
the cause.
Ask teachers if they would like to participate in a pie-in-the-face fundraiser for March of Dimes.

Hank has been awarded with Polar Bear of the Month of February for his more frequent dedication to his club, community, and division. Congratulations to Hank for earning roughly 30 hours this term! Keep it up!
Heritage has been awarded as Club of the Month for February for everything they do. Their club does a tremendous amount of work to plan and furthermore execute all of their events. They went out of their way to educate potential officer candidates on the positions and for the past month have been training their elect to ensure they understand their duties. Keep up your hard work!
Alyssa has been awarded with Officer of the Month of February for her effortless demonstrating what it means to be a Key Clubber. She goes out of her way to help others, doing tasks that are not asked of her, and dedicating herself to this organization.

WHAT IS MNT?
Maternal Neonatal Tetanus is a deadly infection that is usually caused by non-sterilized
medical tools that infect the baby during the birthing process. Tetanus causes infected babies
to have muscular spasms, extreme sensitivity to light and touch, and painful convulsions.
MNT is most severe in third world countries since most citizens are poor and cannot afford the
vaccines or do not have access to hospitals or doctors when once the baby has contracted
the disease. Even with hospital care the fatality rate can still be as high as 60%.
There are still 24 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America fighting this deadly
disease, even though vaccines are only $1.80.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Spread awareness of this life-threatening disease to your home, school, and community. You
can do so by educating your friends, family, and fellow students. You can also plan fundraisers
to collect donations for Project Eliminate to help once and for all eliminate MNT from this world.
Fundraisers can include selling rectangle Project Eliminate vaccine cutouts to students and
staff at school. You can then make a chain off all the cutouts and hang it in your school’s
office to continue spreading awareness.
Take advantage of Eliminate Week during the second week of May to spread awareness of
MNT to your school! It is best to start planning early!

Nearly $400,000 in scholarships and prizes is up for grabs in
the Kohl’s Department Stores’ Kohl’s Cares Scholarship
Program. Nominations for children ages 6 to 18 will be
accepted until March 13, 2015 at kohlskids.com. Ten of
those winners will receive $10,000 scholarships. The rest of
the money will go to more than 2,500 who have “made a
positive impact in their communities.”
