Please BEE Green! Don’t print this newsletter!

Happy November, everyone! I absolutely love the holiday season. Ice skating, long winter nights spent in layers and layers of sweaters, and peppermint everything. The best part is probably the warmth in everybody’s spir-its! The season of appreciation and giving is such a huge reminder of why I love to serve. I’d bet that the same goes for many of you too! J What do we have in store for you this month? 1. The DCM is on Friday, November 22nd, 2013 at Cosumnes Oaks HS from 4PM – 5PM, right before their FREE Board Game and Movie Night. You can bring money for food OR canned food in exchange for the concessions. 2. Our Webmaster and Marketing Task Coor-dinator Application has been released. Are you interested? E-mail [email protected] if you want to know more, ESPECIALLY if you’re skilled with programs like Photoshop! 3. The Leadership Team has been working on creating an educational for all of you to use to better familiarize yourselves with our organiza-tion that will be released by the end of Novem-ber. We promise, it’s cooler than it sounds! 4. Candidate Training Conference, or CTC, will be held on December 14th, 2013. This event is open ONLY to juniors, sophomores, and fresh-men interested in running and learning more about the position of the Lt. Governor. Al-though the district has not finalized all details (location, time), keep this date in mind as it is highly encouraged that anyone who thinks they would like to run for LTG attend this event.

Other than that, I hope you all had a fantastic Key Club Week and that you’re doing well over-all. Seniors – Good luck on your college applica-tions! Try not to procrastinate too much, and remember that no matter what schools you are accepted to, you are taking control of your fu-ture by attending any school at all – that is what matters. You’re all golden! Love, LTG Emily <3 PS: In spirit of the holiday season - It isn’t Thanksgiving just yet, but please under-stand just how much I appreciate each and every single one of you. All 1,250+ of you act as a light in my life. I could not be more proud and blessed to serve you.

-

In service and friendship,

Emily Mu

What it do, 7 South? The weather outside is frightful, but Monsterland is even more delightful! With the last blitz for college applications under-way, one would expect me to be spending less time working. But, I’m still putting in as much time as I can for all of you beautiful people in D7S :) I’ve been working on building ways to better com-municate with editors, making flyers, and doing editor stuff and whatnot. If you’re interested in heading the division web-site and love to make ads, apply for our Webmas-

ter and Marketing Task Coordinator Position! Ask LTG Emily Mu for an application! Keep it real, Monsters! I hope to see you at the DCM, where I’ll be “horse”ing around a bit… You’ll see...

Hello Monsters!!

November is Kiwanis Family Month! I would love it if anyone who can come, go to the Division 7 Kiwanis DCM this Thursday on 11/21 at the Kiwanis Family House! In addition, I encourage you all to further look into the Kiwanis and understand what exactly they do for our clubs. Did you know that the Kiwanis Family House provides temporary housing and support to families of seriously ill or injured children and adults being treated the UC Davis Medical Center? If you can, volunteer at your school’s Kiwanis Family Work Day! At this moment, Kiwanis Work Days may become

Division-wide events so look forward to that soon.

Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving~

FALL RALLY NORTH 2013

An amusement park filled with high spirits, infinite cheer-

ing, and overflowing love for Key Club.

No, this isn’t your average kid’s birthday party. This sum-

mary, at its root, can only mean one thing:

Fall Rally North. 2013 Edition.

Fall Rally North 2013 was a HUGE success, and a crazy fun

day hands down! 7 South brought its huge arsenal of

crazy-spirited members to fill up an ENTIRE SECTION of the

bleachers during our spirit session!

During the session, our Monsters brought the heat, and

made it through the first round of spirit battling into the

intense Round Two, where we closely fell short and got

eliminated before the final battle. The winner of our ses-

sion emerged as a division anything but abominable: the

Division 23 Yetis.

After our spirit rally, our Monsters hit the amusement park

with semi-weakened, and for some just warmed up,

voices to tackle the long day of cheering and activities

ahead. No matter where you’d go, Key Clubbers sporting

all different divisions (and lots of different shirt colors)

transformed the park into a rainbow of Key Club spirit at

every turn, every section of the park, for the entire day.

That’s the power of Key Club, right there. In the flesh.

Throughout the rest of the day, our members met many

people from other divisions in our district, took selfies with

complete strangers, and cheered the infamous “How Do

You Feel?” cheer countless times for strangers and Key

Clubbers alike enchanted with our limitless spirit.

With wrecked voices, mutilated throats, and high exhaus-

tion, Key Clubbers returned to their busses as the Cali-Nev

-Ha District’s biggest fundraisers for PTP, Fall Rally North,

had concluded. Thank you to everyone who went, and

we hope you all had a fantastic time!

Get ready for Fall Rally North 2014!

Many of our clubs fundraised extensively for our preferred charities and our clubs! Let’s take a look at how and where some of our clubs fundraised monstrous amounts!

Carwashes (We had over 12 just in our division!) Restaurants (TapEx, Leatherby’s, you name it! Our monsters

fed their appetites for charity and food at the same time!) Socials and Events (WBDE, Franklin’s Ice Cream Social,

Beastly Barbeque, and more! There’s nothing like having fun while making an impact around the world!)

And now that the weather’s getting colder, more events are com-ing up! I hope you all keep attending these fundraisers!

This month, Key Clubbers celebrated spirit week their own unique way. Monday was Show Your K in Every Way, Tuesday was Ku-dos to the Key Players, Wednesday was Con-nect the Ks, Thursday was Bring a Friend to Key Club, and last but not least, Friday was Do it Your Way. As a sophomore, this is only my second time going through a Key Club spirit week, but within that time span of a year, I’ve noticed many changes since then. This year, many Key Clubbers celebrated Key Club’s spirit week at Sheldon despite the mi-nor complications we had in communication. Despite that, not only did we have dedicated members who managed to quickly adapt to the sudden news, but they also kept their spir-its high, celebrating the event positively. The two days that were extremely different from last year for me, however, would have to be Kudos to the Key Players and Do it Your Way

on Tuesday and Friday. Last year, I was still extremely confused about how the spirit week worked. I wasn’t sure how or who exactly to thank on Tuesday, and as for Friday, I thought I could only wear some spirited gear. This year, however, I received a card from three wonderful, enthusiastic freshmen, thanking me for the things I do for Key Club. It was the first time I was thanked by a Key Clubber for simply doing what I do daily. On that day, Sheldon hosted a Key Club meetings as usual, and everyone wrote down little messages of thanks to Mrs. Baker, Sheldon’s Kiwanis Advi-sor. She has helped many Key Clubbers on their journey to becoming amazing leader while serving her community. Thank you, Mrs. Baker, for all the things you have done for us. We hope to make you proud as we all grow to becoming the best we can be. On Friday, Do it Your Way, Sheldon has a

tradition of giving free hugs around school all day. Last year, I was still very uncomfortable when it came to hugs. I wasn’t used to the warm physical contact all that much yet. Espe-cially when I’m hugging strangers. This year, however, that changed, and Key Club has helped me do so. I proudly wore a free hug sign that day and hugged whoever was willing or wanted to get a hug. In total, I believe I’ve hugged about twenty-eight more people than I hugged last year! I didn’t think I’d become used to hugs, but now, I’m actually wanting to receive hugs from people, especially Key Club-bers who gladly hug back!

Just before Fall Rally North, Laguna Creek Key Club held its annual Operation Trick or Treat where volunteers were sent into the neighbor-ing community to raise money for UNICEF. This year, around twenty members partici-pated in this school event where they raised $85.70 for UNICEF. Around 6:15 on a gloomy Friday, dedicated Key Clubbers rendezvoused at the front of the school where our president, Sarah-Mae San-chez, divided the members into groups of four or five members; each led by a board member. By 6:45, the groups dispersed in separate direc-tions, each assigned to an area within the nearby community. We went into the dim neighborhood with gloomy attitudes. However, my group held a brief introduction ceremony where each mem-ber told the rest of the group their name and experiences as well as funny moments of their life. Soon, we talked and talked the night away, enthusiastic about the event and raising money for UNICEF. As we came to our desig-

nated houses, we kindly introduced ourselves and asked whether the people wanted to do-nate any money to fight the horrible Maternal Neonatal Tetanus disease (MNT). Although some of the newer and introverted individuals were hesitant to speak, they closely observed veteran members fundraise money through asking the community for donations. Kenny Ketsavong would be a crowning example of a veteran Key Clubber where he bravely talked to many citizens within the community to in-form them about MNT and ask for any dona-tions. Due to a misfortunate event, board members were contacted to regroup at Laguna Creek High School because several helicopters where circling a nearby area and the air was petrified by police sirens. As we regrouped, the board decided to go to-gether as a larger group for safety reasons. De-spite the setback and loss of time, we finished off one of the closer communities were even the shyest of people trick or treated for UNI-

CEF. By 8:45, we were on our way to a local restaurant called L&L Hawaiian Barbecue where we would announce the group who fundraised the most money and handed out prizes. To finish the long day off, multiple Key Clubbers bought food and talked while wait-ing for their ride home. I waited outside with Anderson Huynh to make sure that every last member had gotten a safe ride home. Trick or Treat for UNICEF is one of Laguna Creek Key Club’s most social fundraisers where individuals learn speaking and present-ing skills in order to inform the community about MNT and ask for donations. This event was very successful this year and will definitely be held next year as well. We will continue to host this event until we win the fight against MNT!

It’s that time of year again! The time that we switch from wearing t-shirts and shorts to jackets & jeans. The time of year that the leaves turn from bright green, to red, to gold, to crunchy brown. The time of year that food goes from pumpkin fla-vored everything to peppermint flavored everything. The time that time falls back, and from summer we fall into winter. It’s the time of change. Change is scary. Change forces us to leave comfort and traverse new lands and inter-act with new things. And we have no clue if there are unearthed mines or if the next

living thing we encounter will be fluffy and nice or scaly and deathly. But change is needed. Without change, adults would be stuck forever with really small baby teeth. Caterpillars would eat and eat and grow and grow… and just get fatter. Without change, buds wouldn’t blossom, arcades wouldn’t exist, and we’d be stuck drinking pumpkin spice lattes all year. So yes, change is weird, and sometimes it’s difficult. But it’s okay, because change is good! In fact, it’s a really great thing when

YOU decide to make changes. When you change yourself, because you decide that that is who you want to be, that’s great! And when you change the world around you, by volunteering, that’s pretty great, too! And that’s why I think Key Club is so cool, you know? You get to change the world, while figuring out how you wanna change yourself? Yeah, idk, I really tried. But seriously, thank YOU for being the change our world needs. Remember, you rock. \m/

Hey Key Clubbers, how do you feel? Good? I hope so. Especially with the holiday season right around the corner, spirits are high and people are happier than ever. However, every year there are always some of us who aren’t as fortunate who cannot enjoy the merriness of the holidays. That’s why I want to remind you guys to give back to your communities in any way possible. Whether it’s donating to a local charity or volunteering at a homeless shelter, any effort to help out those in need will be noticed and greatly appreciated. You could turn someone’s holiday from a sad and dreary

one into the best one they ever had, simply by giving up some of your own time to help out someone in need. And if you don’t know how to help out, ask your club officers. They can probably give you some ideas or even inform you of volunteering opportunities or ongoing fundraisers. If all else fails, you can always visit a local charity and ask how you can help. With a few final words, I’d like to remind everyone to be thankful for his or her own good fortune and that anyone can make a difference in their community. See you guys later and hope you all have a great holiday season!

The morning brisk and a concoction of apprehension and excitement permeated the air. Eighty-eight members and I boarded the bus and soon arrived at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. Overwhelmed by the concentration of Key Clubbers further sparked excitement. We enjoyed the convenience of minimal lines as we waited for the second rally. When asked the magical question, there was a mutual un-derstanding that we wanted to save our voices and we whispered our response. Other, more flamboyant Key Clubbers, spare not an ounce of their voices and screamed unrestrained. We strategically smiled with delight.

12:30 was upon us and after frantic-ally handing out thunder sticks to our mem-bers, we shuffled in to the battle of a lifetime.

Cheers from all angles amplified the stadium. Round 1, Round 2.

Defeat did not hamper our apprecia-tion for the purpose of the rally, PTP—raising funds for an international cause created by the Cali-Nev-Ha District Kiwanis in 1994. Mem-bers from Pleasant Grove graciously spent an extra half hour cleaning up the debris left by all the divisions and were thanked by multiple Kiwanians for our efforts.

Florid by the heat and exhaustion from cheering, the members packed onto the busses once again. After a brief fifteen minute recap to our bus partners of our busy days, the members drifted into a well-deserved nap.

When we woke, the officers re-minded the members to call their parents

within a reasonable distance to ensure suffi-cient time for the parents to arrive at the school for pick up. The members cleaned up the bus and thanked all advisors and the bus driver. L-O-V-E, I love my C-L-U-B!
