Writing YOUR Expository – Discursive MAIN BODY PARAGRAPH 1

W.Term 3 Week 9 – 10.2012

TOPIC: What makes group work effective in the classroom?

FOCUS: How to write the MAIN BODY PARAGRAPH 1 which consists of the

FIRST TOPIC SENTENCE in support of the THESIS STATEMENT?

VERSION 1:

Time is of the essence. It is crucial for a group to manage its time

well. When we come together in a small group, we are expected to

pool our resources and ideas together to perform a specific purpose

within the limited amount of time given to us. If we do not keep time

properly, we will not be able to work things out meaningfully. Ill

feelings may arise as a result, even loss of confidence. We need to

understand that things can only get done if we use time efficiently

and effectively so that a discussion can produce meaningful

outcomes and an activity can be successfully conducted and most

importantly every one of the members get to benefit from group

work participation.

VERSION 2:

Good time management is the first factor which influences the

effectiveness of group work. When we manage time well, we will be

able to pool our resources and ideas together to get things done

quickly within the limited time. We can imagine the disappointment

and loss of confidence in group work if we do not keep time

properly. We need to understand that things can only get done if we

use time efficiently and effectively so that a discussion can produce

meaningful outcomes and an activity can be successfully conducted.

When we get things done, we become more confident in using group

work to learn together in the classroom.

Comment [K1]: TOPIC SENTENCE. If

you need to write in shorter sentences,

please do so.

Comment [K2]: TOPIC SENTENCE –

does not always need to appear in the

first sentence of the paragraph.
