Kathmandu Our adventure begins in the bustling capital of Nepal, where the streets are home to holy men, monks, bicycles, incense, goats and sacred cows, and the markets are abuzz with life.

Step out into the streets of Kathmandu starting in Patan’s Dubar Square, which is still showing the repercussions of the April ’15 earthquakes. The square and its surroundings, including the home of the Royal Kumari (living goddess) and 50 plus monuments are rich examples of ancient Newari architecture and beau-tifully decorated with amazing woodcarvings.

I’d highly recommend the most sacred Hindu Shrine Pashupatinah, located on the banks of the Bagmati River, especially in the evenings when the Aarti cere-mony is performed. Here you can watch families go through the formalities of cremating their loved ones who have passed away from the other side of the river – the sound of bells ringing, mantras and songs, and the smell of incense was definitely one of my highlights.

Chitwan

Travel 150 km by road from Kathmandu to Chitwan National Park, a place full of activity and wildlife. It is common to see elephants roaming the streets, either on their way home to local villages, having a bath or to the park where they do Elephant safaris.

Take in the magnificent wildlife during a 1-hour elephant safari, or go canoeing where you may catch a glimpse of crocodiles wallowing in the mud and pea-cocks specking around for food.

I love the village atmosphere here and there are a good number of hotels and restaurants to choose from.

Please note that travelling by road in Nepal can often take longer than expected, and your journey could take anywhere between 5-8 hours. It took us 8 hours due to a landslide.

Bhaktapur Located about 20km east of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, “the City of Devotees” and Nepal’s cultural capital is well worth the visit. Here you will visit the Palace of 55 windows, which was built during the period of King Bhupatindra Malla in 1754.

Enjoy lunch with a local family or, if you have time, travel to Panauti and overnight in a community homestay. This beautiful little village operates under a distinct philosophy of “Run by Women for the Women” and all are welcome.

Pokhara Get ready to enrich your body and mind with incredible scenery, fresh air and friendly locals, pack your active wear as we set off on a 180km journey from Chitwan (travel time is between 4-10 hours depending on conditions). This popular city is the gateway to adventure, whether you’re into paragliding, ultra-light aircrafts, trekking or Annapurna Panorama flights, rafting or kayaking, there is something for you.

Head to Sarangkot for sunrise and you will not be disappointed by the panoramic sweep of the Himalayan peaks, - from Dhaulagiri (8167m) in the west to the perfect pyramid of Machhapuchhare (6997m) and the tent-like peak of Annapurna 11 (7937m). There is also an incredible array of local restaurants, bars and shopping to choose from near Phewa Lake and accommodation of international standards.
