Engineering Services

We provide life of asset engineering capabilities, from consultancy services to support investment decisions, concept development, project execution, commissioning and decommissioning. Our capability spans greenfield and brownfield developments, onshore and offshore, including pipelines, subsea and renewables.

Our engineering capabilities include consultancy services, encompassing surface and subsurface expertise, production enhancement and production technology, field development planning, concept development, front end engineering design (FEED) and specialist consultancy services.

Our project execution capabilities extend to larger FEEDs, detailed design, procurement services and construction.

For brownfield projects, we provide flexible, scalable services to support small and medium sized modification projects all the way through to major modification projects and subsea tiebacks. We deliver these projects using a variety of commercial models. Our inherent technical expertise and operational knowledge means we can recommend best-fit engineering solutions while minimising impact on ongoing operations.

Where appropriate, we will utilise our high-value engineering centres in India and the Far East, enabling us to deliver cost-competitive solutions without compromising quality.

We draw on Petrofac’s group-wide engineering, construction and operations expertise to optimise our solutions and streamline our delivery.

For greenfield projects, Petrofac’s global insights relating to risk, cost, schedule, constructability and operability enable us to deliver front-end solutions that reduce CAPEX, OPEX and optimise schedule while enhancing safety and operability.

From the concept to the detail, we provide design and engineering services across the life cycle of oil and gas assets.

OPERATIONAL EXPERTISE

Our operational expertise enhances our engineering solutions. By integrating resources and harnessing the know-how of our operations and maintenance teams we can positively influence our front-end solutions. This practical experience also benefits our delivery of brownfield engineering solutions, allowing us to recommend constructible designs that are inherently safe and can be installed with minimal impact on ongoing operations. Lump-sum turnkey: This commercial model is at the very

heart of Petrofac’s history. Through our LSTK approach we offer clients the security of a guaranteed fixed price to deliver their projects against, for which we carry out all the engineering, procurement and construction activities; all within a pre-agreed timeframe.

EPCm: We work in alignment with our clients,

often forming integrated delivery teams and utilising each client's systems and processes to deliver. This approach is predominantly reimbursable, linked to milestones and KPIs, giving our clients full control and transparency of the project's progress, while enabling us to leverage our inherent capabilities to deliver increased value. In EPCm projects we provide construction management support services but the client manages the construction contractor directly.

Procurement: We leverage further benefit during

procurement activities by drawing on our network of over 400 procurement professionals. With a collective annual spend of US$3 billion, we have the detailed knowledge required to recommend and implement the right solution for your project at the most competitive rate.

Brownfield modifications: Our brownfield capabilities span

onshore and offshore, ranging from minor modifications and like-for-like replacements focused on maintaining asset integrity, through to multi-discipline and major modification projects, such as subsea tiebacks and facility upgrades.

We are focused on delivering high-quality project execution services covering engineering, HSSE management, procurement, fabrication, on-site construction, installation and start-up. Petrofac is renowned for its capability in lump-sum turnkey (LSTK) engineering, procurement and construction delivery. We have a 36-year track record which includes a significant number of oil and gas ‘mega’ projects.

We also have the capability through our EPCm business to approach EPC delivery on an integrated and reimbursable basis and across our operations we deliver brownfield modifications and general engineering services offshore and onshore.

Operations Services

For more than 20 years we have delivered fit-for-purpose operations, maintenance and asset management solutions designed to increase production, optimise efficiency, reduce OPEX and lower lifting costs; thereby increasing economic viability and extending field life.

We have conducted more than 25 major asset transitions and enabled the establishment of eight new entrant operators – supporting them to become operators from the Sale and Purchase Agreement through transition and into operations.

Our capabilities support topsides, jackets, subsea, pipelines and terminals, fixed and floating assets. Services include:

Managed solution: We provide a full asset management solution for facilities, wells and pipelines, focused on improving production and efficiency in line with our clients’ asset objectives. We pioneered the outsourced Duty Holder model in 1997. This cost effective model is beneficial for new entrant operators and international oil companies with assets in the late life phase. Since the introduction of the 2015 Safety Case Regulations we have evolved our model to incorporate Installation Operator (including Duty Holder) responsibility with accountability for wells and pipeline operations.

O&M services: From the provision of competent and skilled labour through to managed O&M services we tailor our solutions to deliver in alignment with the operating philosophy of the asset and the strategic needs of each client. At Petrofac, people are at the core of our capability, and nowhere is this more evident than in our approach to O&M delivery.

People: We provide competent people for the

execution of operations, maintenance and deck services. Through our in-house training and competency management solutions we ensure tasks are carried out by employees with the right levels of competence.

Asset Management

Through designing and implementing asset management solutions we enable clients to transform their organisation, meet international regulations, improve asset performance and maximise return on their asset-based investment.

We have three key areas of service provision:

Performance consulting: In collaboration with our clients, we define the optimum solution to meet their asset performance challenge. Whether their goal be benchmarking the existing performance across multiple assets, assuring asset performance against key standards, or reaching operational readiness.

Technical consulting: Once client needs have been established, either through our performance consulting or from a client specific need, we develop programmes to achieve the desired state. These programmes can cover a range of areas including strategy and decision making, people and organisations, systems and processes, risk and compliance, physical assets and performance.

Managed services: We can provide manpower, functional support and supervision to realise the strategies identified through our performance and technical consulting services. This includes the provision of our maintenance and reliability, condition monitoring and Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) services.

These services are supported by our proprietary software, BuildME™, CBMnet, AIRS and AssureME, which provide efficient data collection and auditing environments from which to build and export the desired solution ready for implementation.

Well Engineering

Our flexible well engineering and project management solutions are delivered in close collaboration with our clients. We help national and international oil companies and smaller independent operators overcome experience gaps, resource constraints and time pressure.

Well plug and abandonment: From initial review, through to abandonment methodology selection, detailed planning and engineering, and project execution, we provide a full service capability to enable clients to safely abandon wells.

Well management software: Fundamental to our well operations is our Well Management Software – WellAtlas®. It is used on all our internal well construction projects and deployed with a number of global operators. The system shows complete visibility and auditability for a range of well delivery tasks, providing increased levels of project assurance, risk and knowledge management.

Consultancy services: Providing qualified and competent personnel to support your operations in the areas of wells, subsea, completions and testing.

We are a trusted partner for our clients, enabling them to outsource well engineering requirements so they can focus on core expertise and gain the benefits from our resources.

Our services include:

Well project management: The complete spectrum of project management services ranging from full-scale well operation and well construction through to small integrated project teams.

Well engineering: Covers all aspects of well engineering and well site operations from discrete studies to entire field development planning, including integrity and abandonment.

We utilise the breadth and depth of our service capability to bring added value to clients with assets approaching the late life and decommissioning phases.

Late life Duty Holder: This model is focused on helping

our clients push out the cessation of production date and extend asset life. We work with operators to eliminate waste and inefficiencies to safely increase production and uptime. By engaging with us at the earliest stage, we can use our asset knowledge to shape a range of early-interventions and cost-effective measures to reduce the eventual cost of removal.

Duty Holder in decommissioning: For non-producing assets, we tailor

our approach to help reduce OPEX and eventual abandonment costs through manpower optimisation, maintenance simplification and use of shared services.

Well Engineering: From feasibility to well construction,

plugging and abandonment, our decommissioning-focused activities can support cost estimation, studies, detailed design, (de)construction, asset removal and project management.

Engineering: From concept and feasibility studies to

enhanced production methodologies to cost estimating and options analysis, our expertise spans structural and marine assurance, lifting analysis and technical safety for topsides, jackets, pipelines, subsea pipelines and terminals.

Optimised maintenance: Using a proven methodology for the assessment of maintenance and inspection activities, we optimise asset workload and its manpower requirements during late life.

Decommissioning

We offer an integrated capability to support the late life landscape – from studies and production enhancement activities, brownfield engineering and operations to planning and well plugging and abandonment. Through our strategic partnerships, we can also provide removal and waste disposal services. We deliver these services as single, discrete activities or integrate them to offer a complete managed solution.

We have been delivering training to the oil and gas industry for over 35 years and have trained more than one million delegates.

Our operations and training delivery experience means we have an unrivalled understanding of the training, competency and compliance requirements of the industry.

Training delivery: Our Training Services business has

been a leader in the field of oil and gas, safety, survival, marine, fire and emergency response training for over 35 years.

Training facilities: We can also design and build training

facilities for our clients and use the capabilities of the wider Group to manage and run training for clients worldwide.

Crisis management: We have over 20 years’ experience

developing, implementing and maintaining clients’ training and crisis management systems. We can also manage emergency response plans and procedures for dealing with major

accident hazards on high-risk sites. Supporting clients from initial strategy to ongoing improvement plans, our crisis management capability comprises highly experienced personnel and unique facilities.

Emergency Response Service Centre (ERSC):

Our ERSC was the first of its kind and remains the market leader over a decade after it opened. Through this centre we currently support over 50 clients and 160 assets worldwide.

Competence consultancy: We offer a range of consultancy

services from developing strategies and systems, undertaking reviews and audits through to the provision of assessors and verifiers.

Managed services: Supporting clients by removing the

administrative burden of managing training and competency in-house. Tailored to each client’s specific requirements, we offer transparent reporting and economies of scale.

Computer-based training: An in-house capability designing

and delivering computer-based eLearning products.

Competence software – SkillsVX: SkillsVX is an integrated training and competence management software suite, designed to meet the complex needs of the oil and gas industry.

It stores training and competence records for every role in an organisation and offers live analysis of critical information.
