Our offering to DCC is a vital part of our response to God and God’s Word. It helps us connect our adoration for God with our life of discipleship. The offering is a token and symbol of

our desire to devote our whole selves to God’s service in response to God’s faithfulness to us.

Rejoice!

It is possible, then, for everyone in every church, who may wish to know the truth, to contemplate the tradition of the apostles which has been made known throughout the whole world. And we are in a position to enumerate those who were instituted bishops by the apostles and their successors to our own times—men who neither knew nor taught anything like these heretics rave about.

—an excerpt from Irenaeus’ Against Heresies

But God, who is the beginning of all things, is not to be regarded as a composite being, lest perchance there should be found to exist elements prior to the beginning itself, out of which everything is composed, whatever that be which is called composite.

Origen of Alexandria

And God himself, whom Constantine worshiped, has confirmed this truth by the clearest manifestations of his will, being present to aid him (1) at the commencement, during the course, and at the end of his reign, and holding him up to the human race as an instructive example of godliness. Accordingly, by the manifold blessings he has conferred on him, he has distinguished him alone of all the sovereigns of whom we have ever heard as at once a mighty luminary and most clear-voiced herald of genuine piety.

—an excerpt from Eusebius’ The Life of Constantine

Friends,

I love history and to be more specific, I love church history. Also, I love the writings of the early church fathers, like those above. The church possesses a rich history and has inherited doctrine throughout the ages that have allowed the church to understand Scripture better and to worship the Lord in greater knowledge and authenticity. But much of this came at a great cost. As we look back at the history of the church we can see that the Christian church was under attack on two fronts – physi-cal persecution and false teaching. On the one hand, was the threat of martyrdom, and on the other was the threat of heresy. As pastor and author, Sinclair Ferguson puts it “one of these enemies is much more dangerous than the other – but it is not, as we might think, persecution. The early church knew that martyrdom could never ultimately kill either the believer or the church. But false teaching always does. We modern Christians tend to assume it is the other way around. We have little fear of false teaching but considerable fear of persecution.”

You see, as we look back at the early church fathers we see men who had a great fear of false teaching but little fear of persecution. These men had a great fear that the views of the church would become indistin-guishable from those of the world, so they stood firm upon the Holy Scriptures. They were willing to suffer at all cost even if that meant death. So, it should not be a surprise that the church today is being attacked in the same way. As Peter wrote in 1 Peter 4:12 we should not be surprised by such trials, in fact, we should expect them. But, I love how Peter encourages us in verse 13 to respond to such trials with joy. Peter writes, “But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.” So, let us stand firm and rejoice in the face of trials!

Grace and Peace, Pastor Jason

This is such an easy, simple thing for us to do, but may be a very important and significant

thing for the child who receives a soft friend at a time of great distress. Please be generous.

DCC Library News

The Diamondhead Community Church Library maintains a collection of media for all ages that provides the opportunity for studying, learning, and teaching. It is a resource supporting personal and congregational growth in our Christian faith and living so the members and friends of Diamondhead Community Church continue to foster an environment that “seeks to meet the needs of each other.”

June is a busy month. June 9 is Pentecost Sunday. This day of Pentecost, fifty days after the resurrection of Christ, celebrates that the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples.

Flag Day on Friday June 14 commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777 by the Second Continental Congress. There are guidelines for display-ing the flag. Display the flag only from sunrise until sunset or illuminate the flag at night with lighting directly on the flag, from streetlights or lighting from a house or building. Remove the flag during wind and rain to prevent damage or use an all-weather flag. When suspending a flag from a pole hang the union first. Flags flat against a wall hang them with the union on the left side.

This year we celebrate Father’s Day on June 16. The origin of Father’s Day is very sketchy, but President Lyndon Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation honoring fathers in 1966. The third Sunday in June is designated as Father's Day. Father’s Day became a national holiday in 1972 when President Nixon signed it into law.

In addition, welcome the first day of summer on June 21.

What Makes a Dad God took the strength of a mountain,

The majesty of a tree, The warmth of a summer sun,

The calm of a quiet sea, The generous soul of nature, The comforting arm of night,

The wisdom of the ages, The power of the eagle's flight, The joy of a morning in spring,

The faith of a mustard seed, The patience of eternity,

The depth of a family need, Then God combined these qualities,

When there was nothing more to add, He knew His masterpiece was complete,

And so, He called it ... Dad

VOLUNTEERS Join us to be part of the Vacation Bible School celebration...ROAR!

June 10—14 9:00AM-Noon Children ages 4 years through 6th Grade

At ROAR VBS, kids will discover that even though life gets wild, GOD IS GOOD.

Their week will be filled with incredible Bible-learning experiences kids can see, hear, touch, and even taste!

Plus, we'll help them discover how to see evidence of God in everyday life.

It takes over 100 volunteers to make our Vacation Bible School happen each summer. We heartily appreciate all you do

to make our program a success.

As you see, there is a lot to do to make VBS happen each year. We need all hands on deck, and would love to have you be a part of our team!

Please call if you have questions; I'm happy to give answers and clarify anything for you.

DCC YOUTH GROUP NEWS CONTINED…..

The second event for youth that Diamondhead Community Church will be hosting this summer is the annual Soccer Camp with Coach Doug Stovall (William Carey College Soccer Hall of Fame inductee with a 219-89-10 record as coach there, and a record of 41-15-1 as the women’s coach). Coach Stovall will once again bring fun and faith to his 4 day camp, which returns this year to the East Rec Ball Fields. He, along with

soccer phenoms from local colleges, always bring fun to the day of at-tendees, as they work to learn the game of soccer, enhance skills already possessed, and gain new skills. Soccer Camp this year will run from June 24th through June 27th. Attendees ages 5-7 are at camp from 8:30am-10:30am those four days, at a cost of $55. Attendees aged 8 years old through high school seniors meet from 8:30am-11:30am for the four days, at a cost of $65. Every attendee receives an age appropri-ate soccer ball and T-shirt, which is included in the cost of the camp.

Registration is now open for both events at our church office, and online registration for both events will also be available at our web-site, www.dhcommunitychurch.org.

If you have questions, you may contact the church office at (228) 255-5556.

Thank you all sincerely, and may He use each of us for the glory of His kingdom,

Chad Coats

Youth Leader

DCC YOUTH GROUP NEWS

The countdown has begun!!!!

Vacation Bible School, with the theme “Roar! Life is Wild. God is Good.” will occur June 10th through June 14th. The program runs from 9am until noon each of the 5 days, and is open to all pre-school and elementary school aged children (4yr. - 6 grade). The cost is only $10 per child, with a maximum cost per household set at $30. Every attendee will receive a themed t-shirt. Each day will be filled with music, bible stories, games, crafts, a snack, fellowship, and the opportunity to make new friends.

This is a call for volunteers to help make this program even more of a success than it was last year, when DCC welcomed roughly 100 young-sters for the week. Over 45 volunteers from the congregation and community worked for nearly two months organizing and working the event to ensure its success. If you think that you don’t have something to offer to this year’s VBS, I guarantee we can together find a role for you! Volunteer forms are located at the church office. Please fill one out today. We definitely need your help, and you would be surprised at the opportunities we have available.

Invite your friends and neighbors to join you for the fun and adventure!!
