Update from Treasurer, Laura Deese

DCC Financial Update:

2019 FINANCIAL REPORT FROM TREASURER

Our offering to DCC is a vital part of our response to God and

God’s Word. It helps us connect our adoration for God with our life of discipleship. The offering is a token and symbol of our desire to devote our whole selves to God’s service in response

to God’s faithfulness to us.

Does Jesus Care?

At the beginning of the 20th century a pastor named Frank Graeff was suffering from severe illness and depression. He felt that God was very far away. In desperation, he opened his Bible and stumbled on a verse from the book of 1 Peter. He read these words from 1 Peter 5:7, “Cast your care and anxiety on God, for God cares for you.” In that moment, God graciously came near and brought life to Graeff’s difficult circumstances. He still confronted tough times, but he knew with certainty that God walked with him through them. As a response to this encounter with God, Graeff wrote the hymn, “Does Jesus Care?” Here are the words from the first verse and refrain of this hymn.

Does Jesus care when my heart is pained

too deeply for mirth and song;

as burdens press and the cares distress,

and the way grows weary and long?

Refrain

O yes, he cares; I know He cares,

His heart is touched by my grief;

When the days are weary, the long nights dreary,

I know my Savior cares.

Friends that is God’s character. That’s who God is. God cares about every one of us. God not only sees us in our need, but God’s heart is touched by our need. We do not have a God who is far off from us. Your marriage, your family, your every need--God knows. God cares.

Here is the Good News. According to the writer of Hebrews, we are protected by Christ’s own blood, we are sustained by Christ’s own blood, we are brought into reconciliation with God by Christ’s own blood. We don’t need to hide from God and bury ourselves beneath a boulder. God loves us. Christ died for us. Don’t lose hope the next time you feel the earth trembling under your feet, regardless of what that earthquake may be. We are part of an unshakable kingdom. Christ has brought us into the Kingdom of God.

Grace and peace, Jason

DCC Library News

The Diamondhead Community Church Library maintains a collection of media for all ages that provides the opportunity for studying, learning, and teaching. It is a resource supporting personal and congregational growth in our Christian faith and living so the members and friends of Diamondhead Community Church continue to foster an environment that “seeks to meet the needs of each other.”

If you watched as the events of 9/11 unfolded on that Tuesday morning at 8:45 a. m. in 2001, the month of September brings back all the memories that have forever changed how we live our lives. Because of the attacks on the United States, we con-tinue to live in a state of national emergency. Since the Sorgenfrei Family donated GOD’S GRACE FROM GROUND ZERO-SEEKING GOD’S HEART FOR THE FUTURE WORLD, this book has been on my ‘To Read’ list. Jim Cymbala, the author of GOD’S GRACE FROM GROUND ZERO was the Pastor of the Brooklyn Taber-nacle, a non-denominational church in the heart of downtown Brooklyn on September 11, 2001.

GOD’S GRACE FROM GROUND ZERO-SEEKING GOD’S HEART FOR THE FUTURE WORLD ¾ a book review by Robert Benzing

We often see the words “God’s Grace” written and frequently hear the words, but what do the words mean? This is a wonderful book and answered my questions concerning God’s Grace. The book tells how God’s Grace intervened in many lives during and after 9/11. Although the book has only 87 pages, it is one of the most powerful books, I have read. I want to share these words. “Grace…God’s free and undeserved love that never quits. Grace is a gift from God that comes as eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Be sure to add this book to your to read list!

New on the shelves: Added to the Adult Library are these books A Woman GOD’S SPIRIT CAN GUIDE, A Woman JESUS CAN TEACH, and the 21 Most Effective Prayers of the Bible and to the Children’s Library the Twelve Days of CHRISTMAS CATS. To Laura Deese, Ginny Eblen, and Myrna and Hugh Burney thank you for your generous gifts to our Library.

GOD’S GRACE FROM GROUND ZERO and all books donated in August are avail-able for Speedy Checkout from the Library Book Cart stationed at the main entrance.

Your libraries are open on Sunday morning before and after both church services and on Wednesday 10:00-12:00 and most days during church office hours.

Your help is needed in this worthy program.

The Deacons coordinate transportation, with advance

notice, to local medical appointments in Diamondhead,

Gulfport, or Slidell for members, their spouses, and

active church friends.

Currently, the Deacons have no drivers to assist in this

wonderful ministry. Please consider volunteering

to serve as a driver. If you have questions,

please contact Betty Lou Walker

or the church office.

Gather, Grow and Go, in the Name of Jesus Christ

August 26, 2019

Dear Friends,

This letter serves as an announcement that the Presbytery of Mississippi has set a date for a congregational consultation with the presbytery. This congregational consultation will be held on Sunday, September 29th at 5 PM. The purpose of this congregational consultation is to vote on whether the membership as a body should withdraw from the Presbyterian Church (USA) and be dismissed to the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC).

The Committee on Ministry, Moderator, or Presbytery Cabinet will appoint a Commit-tee on Congregational Consultation to conduct the meeting, which is technically a meeting of the committee, not a congregational meeting. This meeting will also be moderated by a member of the Committee on Ministry, the administrative presbyter, or the stated clerk of presbytery.

The minimum requirement for an accurate consultation should be one-third of the active confirmed members in good and regular standing. Others will not be heard or allowed to cast a ballot regarding the request for dismissal. There is no voting by proxy. Only those present and in good standing will be allowed to vote.

>>>>>Continued from page 6

A secret ballot of the congregation members will be taken on the categorical question: “Shall the membership of Diamondhead Community Church request dismissal as a body by the Presbytery of Mississippi to the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC), another Reformed body?”

The ballots should be counted by two elders from the congregation and two representa-tives of the presbytery. Only ballots clearly legible should be counted. In case of ambi-guity, the ballot should be counted as “No.” Abstentions count as “No” votes. The ballots should be counted twice and the results should be announced at the meeting, and the results should be communicated in writing to the stated clerk of the presbytery.

Ordinarily, a request for dismissal requires affirmation by at least two-thirds of those present and participating. Following notice of such a request, the Moderator will follow the normal procedures for calling a meeting of presbytery, provided that there is not already scheduled a stated meeting of presbytery within 45 days of the congregational request for dismissal. The Committee on Congregational Consultation shall report the results of its meeting with the congregation, and the presbytery shall determine whether the process for requesting dismissal was fair and represents the will of the congregation. If so, the congregation should be dismissed to another Reformed denomination, subject to any agreements that may be reached regarding the fair treatment of those members who do not wish to leave the denomination. If the presbytery determines that the request for dismissal was invalid, the request for dismissal should be denied, and the congrega-tion shall remain a member of the PC(USA).

Please mark your calendars for this important meeting.

Grace and peace,

Rev. Jason C. Edwards
