TRANSCRIPT
In most medical settings, the
control of microorganisms is of
paramount
concern. Decontamination refers
to the destruction or removal of
microorganisms from instruments,
materials, body surfaces, etc.
Many agents and procedures have
been developed to accomplish this
end. It is imperative that you, as a
medical professional, understand
the modes of action, level of
activity and other factors which
influence the effectiveness of
Germicidal systems fall into three
categories:
the process of removing foreign material such as blood, body fluids, or radioactivity. It does not eliminate microorganisms but is a necessary step preceding disinfection or sterilization.
Decontamination:
are substances that
are applied to destroy
microorganisms that are living on
the objects Disinfection does not
necessarily kill all
microorganisms, especially
nonresistant bacterial spores it is
less effective than sterilization,
which is an extreme physical
and/or chemical process .
Some control terms :
Bactericidal drugs are those that kill target organisms. Examples of bactericidal drugs include aminoglycosides, cephalosporins, penicillins, and quinolones.
Bacteriostatic drugs inhibit or delay bacterial growth and replication. Examples of such include tetracyclines, sulfonamides, and macrolides.
Antiseptic:
are antimicrobial substances that
are applied to living tissue/skin to
reduce the possibility of infection

Sterilization is any process that eliminates (removes) or kills all forms of microbial life,
including transmissible agents (such as fungi, bacteria, viruses, spore forms, etc.) present on:
a surface
contained in a fluid
in medication
in a compound such as biological culture media
Sterilization :
can be achieved by applying the
proper combinations of
,,,
heat
chemicals
irradiation
high pressure
filtration
heat
Denatures proteins
