HEADSTART®GOLDYour key to the successfulestablishment of all grass areasThe natural revolutionary grass seedtreatment that ensures rapid germination

2

We proudly introduce HEADSTART®GOLD, thelatest in performance enhancing grass seedcoatings for sports fields, golf courses, lawnsand amenity turf.

HEADSTART®GOLD is a biological germinationaccelerator which is the second generation ofthe original HEADSTART® formula.

HEADSTART®GOLD has been furtherdeveloped and improved in a number ofdifferent ways through research, testing andfield trial work.

The treatment benefits from minerals such as

Phosphorus, Sulphur, Copper andMolybdenum. These nutrients stimulate rootformation, development and growthensuring that the seedling grass plantdevelops a strong root system during thecritical start-up phase.

This leads to better access to moisture andnutrients and makes the grass seedlingplant stronger and more resistant to stress.

In a short time HEADSTART®GOLD canhelp you by giving faster germination, creating stronger roots and ultimatelyhealthier and stronger amenity turf.

Landscape with Ryegrass

Equipaddock Original has been designed as a very flexible grazing and cutting ley ideal for use by horses and ponies.

The combination of three ryegrasses, timothy, red fescue and smooth stalked meadow grasshelp form a pasture with a dense sward that isvery capable of producing good yields of highquality horse hay.

The ‘creeping’ natures of the fescue andmeadow grasses ensure that this ley will ‘repair’itself where heavy treading or close grazinghave occurred. This feature also means thatEquipaddock Original mixture can be readilyused on gallop areas where hard wear anddense cover are essential.

Equipaddock Original is very responsive tomoderate use of nitrogen fertiliser that willenhance yields of forage for hay and assist with recovery after cutting.

WildflowersAll AWF Wildflower

mixtures contain 80% low maintenance grasses and 20% British produced

wildflowers

Over the past 50 years, the number of traditional wildflower meadows havesadly declined, which has resulted in a noted decrease of British insects.

In order for pollination to take place, we need the perfect flowers to attractthose all-important bees so they can ensure the plants become fertilised andproduce seeds and fruit. Limagrain’s ten perennial Wild Flower mixtures andthe Cornfield Annual Mixture which are listed in this booklet all contain someof the recommended plants on the Royal Horticultural Society’s list of plantswhich are ‘Perfect for Pollinators’. You can read more about the need forbees on the RHS website www.rhs.org.uk

31

Wildflowers

Select a weed-free site of low fertility. Fertilisershould not be used, since broad-leaved andgrass weeds, together with cultivated grassescontained in standard mixtures, can be highlycompetitive on fertile soils. This can adverselyaffect seed germination, establishment andsubsequent growth. However, increased grasscutting can help to counteract over-competitivegrowth.

Control weeds before sowing. Annual weedsmay be hoed, buried or killed with a contactherbicide. Perennial weeds should beeradicated by a translocated glyphosate-basedherbicide.

Cultivate the ground to provide a fine, weed-free seed bed. Firm, if necessary.

Sow mixtures either from early March to earlyMay, or from early August to mid-September.This will ensure autumn establishment of mostspecies.

Take care to sow evenly, at the recommendedrate. Thoroughly mixing one part seed with fourparts dry sand makes for easy distribution.

Rake the seed in lightly with a spring-tined rakeand firm the soil by treading or, preferably, rolling. This ensures that the seed comes intocontact with moisture in the soil.

Water with a fine spray. This will avoiddisturbing the surface of the soil. Keep the areawell-watered and free from any unwantedplants.

Cut the sward every six to eight weeks duringthe first year after sowing and remove thecuttings. This will prevent the grass from overgrowing the slower growing wildflowers.

In the following years, cut in early spring, beforegrowth starts, and in October, after allwildflower seeds have been shed.

Remove the cuttings.
