Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Happy Second Sunday of Advent! This Sunday’s Gospel presents us with the figure of John the Baptist, who fulfills Isaiah’s prophecy as that voice crying out in the desert: “prepare the way of the Lord.” Every year, the Advent Season offers us the opportunity to prepare our hearts and souls for the coming of the Lord at Christmas and at the end of time. It is so important that we take advantage of this unique time and allow Christ’s light and grace to overcome any darkness or sin we may find ourselves in. I encourage you to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation before Christmas this year. Confessions are heard in the church every Thursday after the 8:45am Mass and every Saturday from 4:00pm to 4:45pm. On Monday, December 20th, our parish will participate in Reconciliation Monday. The priests of the parish will be hearing confessions from 9:00am-9:00pm in the Church. We will also expose the Blessed Sacrament for Adoration during those hours. All churches in our diocese will also have priests available to hear confessions. I encourage everyone to take the opportunity to experience the Lord’s tender love and mercy in this beautiful sacrament of healing. It is one of the best ways to prepare our hearts for Christmas!

One of the central figures of Advent who gives us the best example of how to be a faithful disciple is the Blessed Mother. This week we honor her on December 8th with the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception and on December 12th with the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. I hope that you will join us as we celebrate our Blessed Mother this week. Please see the bulletin for the schedule of Masses on those days and for the special celebrations we will have with our Nicaraguan and Mexican Communities. I am very happy to announce that Bishop Richard G. Henning, Auxiliary Bishop of Rockville Centre will be visiting us and will be the Principal Celebrant at Homilist at our Solemn Mass in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 12th at 7:30pm. He will also join us in our procession at which will begin at 6:00pm at the doors of the Church. I want to thank the members of our Guadalupe Group, who have been working so hard to prepare for this year’s Feast.

A reminder that next Friday, December 10th, at 7:00pm, we will have our Annual Parish Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on the corner of Saint Nicholas Avenue and Linden Street. I hope you will be able to join us for this fun tradition! Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, Rudolph, Frosty, and Santa’s Elves will be available for pictures! Please bring the kids out and help us spread some Christmas cheer — we will have some cookies and hot chocolate to help keep us warm!

¡Feliz Segundo Domingo de Adviento! El Evangelio de este domingo nos presenta la figura de Juan el Bautista, que cumple la profecía de Isaías como esa voz que clama en el desierto: “Preparen el camino del Señor.” Cada año, la temporada de Adviento nos ofrece la oportunidad de preparar nuestro corazón y alma para la venida del Señor en la Navidad y al final de los tiempos. Es muy importante que aprovechemos este momento y que permitamos que la luz y la gracia de Cristo superen cualquier oscuridad o pecado en el que nos encontremos. Los animo a celebrar el Sacramento de la Reconciliación antes de la Navidad este año. Las confesiones se escuchan en la iglesia todos los jueves después de Misa de 8:45am, y todos los sábados de 4:00pm a 4:45pm. El día lunes, 20 de diciembre, nuestra parroquia participará en el Lunes de Reconciliación. Los sacerdotes de la parroquia estarán escuchando confesiones de 9:00am a 9:00pm en la Iglesia. También expondremos el Santísimo para la Adoración durante esas horas. Todas las iglesias de nuestra diócesis también tendrán sacerdotes disponibles para escuchar confesiones. Los animo a todos a aprovechar la oportunidad de experimentar el tierno amor y la misericordia del Señor en este hermoso sacramento de sanación. ¡Es una de las mejores formas de preparar nuestro corazón para la Navidad!

Una de las figuras centrales del Adviento que nos da el mejor ejemplo de cómo ser un discípulo fiel es la Santísima Virgen Maria. Esta semana la honramos el 8 de diciembre con la Solemnidad de la Inmaculada Concepción y el 12 de diciembre con la Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. Espero que nos acompañen en lo que celebramos a nuestra Santísima Madre esta semana. Consulten el boletín para el horario de Misas en esos días y para las celebraciones especiales que tendremos con nuestras comunidades Nicaragüenses y Mexicanas. Me da mucha alegría anunciar que el Monseñor Richard G. Henning, Obispo Auxiliar de Rockville Center nos visitará y será el Celebrante Principal del Homilista en nuestra Misa Solemne en Honor a Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe el 12 de diciembre a las 7:30pm. El Monseñor también se unirá a nosotros en nuestra procesión que comenzará a las 6:00pm en las puertas de la Iglesia. Quiero darle gracias a los miembros de nuestro Grupo Guadalupano, que han estado trabajando muy fuertemente preparando la Fiesta de este año.

Un recordatorio de que el próximo viernes, 1o de diciembre, a las 7:00pm, tendremos nuestra Iluminación del Arbol Navideño de Santa Brigida en la esquina de Saint Nicholas Avenue y Linden Street. ¡Espero que nos puedan acompañar para esta divertida tradición! ¡Santa Claus, la Sra. Claus, Rudolph, Frosty y los Elfos de Santa estarán disponibles para tomarse fotos! ¡Por favor traigan a los niños y ayúdenos a difundir un poco de alegría navideña! ¡Vamos a tener galletitas y chocolate caliente para ayudar a mantenernos calientitos!
