There are a lot of products (household cleaning wipes, personal hygiene and paper towels) on the market that are labeled “flushable” but most are not “degradable” and end up tangled in our sewer pumps. Unlike toilet paper, some contain plastic and other materials that don’t dissolve quickly in water. We are asking residents to only flush biologic waste and toilet paper. Additionally, we have noticed more grease in the waste water. Please refrain from washing grease down your sink drains because it forms “grease balls” as it rolls down the pipes and plugs the sewer grates. Your help in these matters would be greatly appreciated. The financial costs associated with both of these issues is quite large. There will be a Christmas decorating/lighting contest again this year. First prize will be $50 with $10 prizes for honorable mentions. The judging will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2013 from 7pm to 9pm.

Christmas tree clean-up will be the 6th thru 10th of January. Please have your tree free of ornaments, tinsel, lights, etc. If you are in possession of a stray dog, please call the county sheriff’s office (217/452-7718) and ask them to contact Jim Birdsell. If you see a street light out, call the Village office (217/476-3317) and we will contact Ameren CIPS for repair.

December Birthdays

The Ashland Volunteer Fire

Department would like to thank

everyone in our community for

their support of the recent fund-

raiser. All profits from this event

will be set aside for the purchase of

a new fire truck. We will be updat-

ing the "thermometer" in the

village square periodically, so

check out the progress. Our goal is

$250,000. This will upgrade our 41

year old pumper with a 7 to 8 year

old replacement. This will probably

take many years to complete, but

with your continued help, we be-

lieve it's an attainable goal. Thanks

again for your continued support.
