Prayer of ConfessionGracious and Loving God, while still in the womb Elizabeth’s son leaped for joy in the presence of Mary. This joy was a recognition of the promised Messiah. The light of life was entering the world, and joy was the fitting response. We confess our lack of joy in knowing the good news that Elizabeth heard. We know very well the story of Jesus’ birth, but we struggle to recognize his presence with us. By the gift of your Spirit, restore our joy in this Advent season. Help us to hear the good news in the familiar story. Make room in our hearts for the presence of your Son as we continue our confession in silence…

Invitation to PrayerLo, How a Rose E’er BloomingEs Ist Ein Ros’

Lo, how a Rose e’er blooming from tender stem hath sprung!

Of Jesse’s lineage coming, as men of old have sung.

It came, a floweret bright, amid the cold of winter,

When half spent was the night.

Isaiah ’twas foretold it, the rose I have in mind;

With Mary we behold it, the Virgin Mother kind.

To show God’s love aright, she bore to men a Savior,

When half spent was the night.

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord’s PrayerOur Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be Thy name.Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done

on earth as it is in heaven.Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our debts

as we forgive our debtors, And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.

Amen.

Offering Our GiftsFestival First Nowell arr. Dan Forrest

The First Nowell, the angels did sayWas to certain poor shepherds

in fields as they lay;In fields where they lay,

keeping their sheep,On a cold winter’s night

that was so deep:Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell,Born is the King of Israel!

They looked up and saw a starShining in the east beyond them far;And to the earth it gave great light,And so it continued both day and night.Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell,Born is the King of Israel!

Congregation join in singingThen let us all with one accordSing praises to our heavenly LordThat hath made Heaven

and earth of nought,And with His blood

mankind hath bought.Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Born is the King of Israel!

ADVENT SUNDAYToday is the fourth Sunday of Advent. Advent is a season of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus on Christmas. Advent candles help us keep watch for the coming of Jesus. We begin in darkness, lighting a candle each Sunday until Christmas Eve. On Christmas Eve we light the Christ candle, celebrating the birth of Jesus, the Light of the World.

The Bible can seem like an intimidating book to read. Perhaps you’ve wanted to read the whole Bible but get bogged down and overwhelmed, not knowing how to get started or how to keep going.

The Read the Book plan will email the reading selections to you each morning, for you to read at your convenience—on your computer, a tablet, or your phone. Read while waiting in line or between appointments. No links to click or sites to visit. Only the simple, pure, powerful and eternal Word of God.

A new yearly plan starts on January 1, 2015.
