Suggestions for: Exploitation of synergies, common actions and new project ideas for Danube RIS3 – priority HEALTH

Sabina Passamonti University of Trieste, Lead Partner Danube S3 Workshop: “Gathering opportunities

around RIS3 priorities” at Austrian Federal Ministry of Science, Research and

Economy, Freyung 3, 1014 Vienna 07.07.2015

What is the Danube S3 Workshop? See below or read more in http://s3platform.jrc.ec.europa.eu/s3-in-danube-vienna-2015

Thematic discussion group Health

“The workshop participants were divided in the smaller thematic discussion groups on ICT, health, energy and

sustainable innovation where 16 new project ideas were explored to start collaboration in S3 priorities.”

All other project ideas are available in: http://s3platform.jrc.ec.europa.eu/s3-in-danube-vienna-2015

Trans2Care project ideas and collaboration areas are presented here.

What future for Trans2Care?

•  Replication? (we again …) •  Imitation? (the others … here and elsewhere)

•  Transposition? (the others … elsewhere)

•  Evolution? (another thing…)

What future for Trans2Care? - some answers  •  Replication

–  No, Trans2Care is not perfect; many pitfalls.

•  Imitation –  We do not recommend; pitfalls2 (no experience x

pitfalls imitation)

•  Transposition –  Careful: there are regional specificities

•  Evolution –  We recommend à amplification of opportunities

How to evolve?

GENERAL OBJECTIVE Improve the capacity to push research results into innovation

ACTIONS NEEDED

1.  Refinement and development of the strategic core of Trans2Care •  More solutions to closely link research with

innovation

2.  More efficient and coordinated thematic research activities •  More results that can be directly taken up

by hospitals, care services, SMEs, schools and public authorities

Why this special evolution?

Let some figures speak by themselves. Look at our survey results.

Our simple survey  •  Title: “Survey on joint applications to Interreg and

Horizon 2020 programmes-Health Topics” •  10 Questions •  Sent to ca. 300 persons:

–  Registered attendees of former Italy-Slovenia Cross-border Biomedical Conference (27.02.2014) (http://www.trans2care.eu/Sections.aspx?section=510.595)

–  Professors and post-doc fellows of Dept. of Life Sciences –  Trans2Care Partners

•  Open 30.06.2015-06.07.2015 •  52 RESPONDENTS

The 10 questions of the survey  1.  Can you list some key words describing your research expertise? 2.  How would you describe your availability of research staff? 3.  How would you describe the size of your grants? 4.  What kind of funds do you usually get for your research? 5.  What are your research objectives? 6.  How severe is your shortage of funds? 7.  Are you short of research staff? 8.  Are you short of administration support? 9.  How do you bypass the factors (funds, research and administrative

staff) that challenge your research? 10. What role do you prefer in a collaborative project?

Considerations  This could be steered by the Interreg Programme Authorities: •  The projects calls could be clear in defining not

only WHAT is the ultimate goal of a given Programme but also HOW. –  comprehensive strategic projects can support the the

thematic projects. –  some strategic projects could be quite complementary

to some tasks of the Technical Secretariats –  thematic projects (rather than the strategic ones) are

definitely more fitting than strategic ones to our biomedical research community.
